We have some apple cider vinegar to give the silkies. DS is concerned its like human cider.

SpudsandGravy · 14/01/2021 14:26

Sitting around on the sofa at home on a week's sick leave, continuing my push to watch all of Grey's Anatomy on Prime. I'm now half way through S11 :-)

Cat is here next to me. I made some chicken stock in my Instant Pot this morning, and it's reducing on the stove as I type. Cat and I are enjoying the chickeny smell.

Frownette · 14/01/2021 14:27

Do you mean the chickens? Do they like ACV??

It's slightly overcast here and 10°.

I left some washing in a bag by mistake and although I've put it through the machine again it still smells a bit musty - does anyone know what I can do?

EggyPegg · 14/01/2021 14:37

Yay, well done @Nydj!

Ouch, @MissConductUS, that sounds like a bloody nightmare!

@Silkiechickscat Apple cider vinegar is also excellent for stripping product build up out of your hair and leaving it literally squeaky clean.

4 vacuums?!? I'd kill for two washing machine and two tumble dryers, but I'm fine with just the one vacuum. We have a cordless Dyson and I have to do the house in two parts because the battery doesn't last long enough to do the whole house. I don't mind, it gives me an excuse for a break not that I do that much house work anyway

I'm currently sat on a chair with my feet resting on the arm of the sofa, which is in the middle of the room. There's a fault on our broadband line and the engineer has been out to fix it. Apparently the fault is two wires touching somewhere outside the house. He might need to be back in, he might not. But he's still hanging around outside looking at the telegraph pole, so we're leaving it pulled out for now.

halfpasteleven · 14/01/2021 14:44

Can you hang it out for a couple of hours on the line frownette? Nothing like fresh air to get clothes smelling fresh.

Sunbird24 · 14/01/2021 15:03

I’m still waiting for my test but hopefully I’ll have it tomorrow. I probably won’t get the results until my 10 days is practically up anyway!

Nydj · 14/01/2021 15:36

@Frownette, if the clothes are robust enough and you have any soda crystals in the house then wash them with again with the soda crystals. Otherwise, my go to for all things that may be. Bit smelly is to add bicarbonate of soda - in this case, perhaps a wash with the bicarbonate of soda?

@MissConductUS, that sounds a right pain - are you sure they didn’t do something to your teeth just so you continue to visit them again with those brownies of yours?

Nydj · 14/01/2021 15:39

@Frownette, I have eaten lots of chocolate very healthy food today 😉

Frownette · 14/01/2021 15:45

Nydj your chocolate health plan meets my approval! I've got food in, yippee. Not enough choc though.

Oh actually I need bicarb of soda, I'll try that, thanks

alwayshappensonnye · 14/01/2021 16:01

Hi everyone. I slipped on the ice whilst on my way to work, slamming down on my elbow and arm. It's another snowy day today so safe to say I'm not going anywhere. Time for my daily dose of Ben Shepherd. I'm never normally home for daytime TV, and it amazes me how many times he can say the same sentence (fire it up) over and over again in the space of an hour.

Hope everyone else is doing ok!

MissConductUS · 14/01/2021 16:03

Nydj you might be right. They were a little disappointed when I didn't turn up with a plate of brownies last night. Smile

I've always had problems with my teeth, going back to my 20's. It's been partly to do with some things long lining up correctly in my mouth and partly on my very strong bite and nocturnal teeth grinding. This practice has really been lovely, even if they are a bit further away and more expensive than I'd like. I keep waiting to meet Bill Clinton there, as he uses the same practice.

@Frownette, sorry, I am fresh out of laundry tips. I would probably try a long wash cycle as hot as the fabric will tolerate and it that didn't do it I'd bin the clothes.

EggyPegg · 14/01/2021 16:45

I'd hang them up outside and let them get wet in the rain. Then wash them again as normal. The fresh air and rain will break down any mustiness.

Silkiechickscat · 14/01/2021 17:10

I would clean the washing machine door seal (inside it) with a flash wipe or similar to remove any gunk from it and wash them again maybe with some fabric conditioner.

Just sent a card to our buyers and had another message from estate agent.

Ate 2 giant baileys chocolates from the bakers and DH had 2 peanut butter chocolates.

Just about to have a hot chocolate.

Home educ - maths DS was asleep for but it was like primary maths so didn't miss anything but quite worrying as he is set 1 year not year 1. Then played the science Teams to him with him growling. Business he avoids. Then missed drama as don't want the hit and run. Then art, well DS wasn't keen he said it was rubbish, it was making a zectangle and said you had to be happy with it before sending it in. He said he could never be happy with a zectangle therefore could never send one in. I was struggling to stay awake in them and have a headache.

DH is playing piano. Still trying to get refund from Sainsburys from 14 December but did actually reach a human after an hour, only second human reached in a month.

DD is doing voluntering virtually for Brownies tonight. No snow happened. The chickens have their apple cider vinegar in their drink, never had in before.

HildaTablet · 14/01/2021 17:19

Frownette, I thought I'd read something about musty smells in washing and on checking up I see that the advice was to sprinkle bicarbonate of soda in with the clothes when you re-wash them, about half a cup. And if you like, follow up with white vinegar in the rinse (put it in the fabric conditioner dispenser).

Warning: I haven't tried either of these tips. But they sound pretty harmless so perhaps worth a go?

Nydj · 14/01/2021 17:34

I had to google zentangle - they look pretty

Silkiechickscat · 14/01/2021 17:39

Not according to DS, zectangles are not pretty, they just scribbles you do in English lessons as you are bored and they can never make you happy. Grin

Silkiechickscat · 14/01/2021 18:06

Just checked the e-mail account I rarely use set us as a duck as DS loves ducks. I got it as school were doing a lesson on hacking and I said to DS its rather ironic your school is giving lessons on avoiding hacking as their e-mail is always been hacked. I said even with my no computer knowledge I bet I could hack one of schools systems and register as a duck. DS said go on then. So I did it and made myself a duck and headteacher - he was very happy when I showed him that a duck was incharge of his school. Then I tried to delete it and I couldn't Blush so when I checked my duck e-mail their were 14 e-mails to the duck headteacher and I bet school get post the same. Oops.

Spudlet · 14/01/2021 18:18

@Frownette I stick Tesco anti-bac laundry liquid in wi to my smelly running kit, might be worth a shot of all else fails?

Frownette · 14/01/2021 18:51

Thank you for all suggestions - I'd done lots of washing and took half of it to the upstairs airer then forgot to put the other lot on the downstairs airer and left it in the laundry bag.

After a lot of sniffing just now, it seems ok now it's drying but I need bicarb for something else so if it doesn't pass sniff test tomorrow I'll wash again with it.

FourTurnings · 14/01/2021 18:54

My DH has added a bit of water to the Bolognese sauce. It was on a low heat but still starting to catch.

MissConductUS · 14/01/2021 18:54

I've just seen two men in high viz jackets (one yellow, one orange) outside blowing leaves around with backpack gas petrol-powered blowers.

It's quite noisy.

Chatting to my ds about the vaccination roll out, and he’s asked me: if they were doing a million a week, how many would that be a day?

So 1 million divided by 7 is....

142857.142857!

Which freaked me out a bitShock

But then I phoned my DF who’s a bit good at maths and he said, no, that’s common and you find that sort of thing all the time with recurring fractions. So in other words, it’s pretty dullGrin

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 14/01/2021 19:26

They let me out of the office and I used my commute to catch up.
@MissConductUS - what rubbish news!

I do not have to work tomorrow! Which is about as exciting as it gets.

HeronLanyon · 14/01/2021 19:50

lonely you mind if I take that thkight out of the room cos I am finding that really interesting and quite exciting and want to think about it a bit - not appropriate here obvs - hurries out closes door quietly.

MissConductUS · 14/01/2021 20:05

Welcome, @Lonelycrab, and thanks for sharing your mathematical news. It may have something to do with the fact that 7 is a prime number.

I have to work tomorrow but have Monday off for Martin Luther King day.
