I've done a bit of cleaning this morning and put a wash on. Listening to Jeeves and Wooster audio book (read by Stephen Fry) which is a wonderful escape.

I put on false eyelashes this morning for the first time (for no reason at all, obviously) and look ridiculous.

@atz333 hi. I had a terrible time when my children were small. I probably should have taken medication in retrospect. Good idea to go to the dr. Keep opening up about how you are. Flowers

Squirrel26 · 13/01/2021 12:41

Have Covid vaccine at 1, approximately 5 minutes walk away. It is killing me not to leave now ‘so I’m not late’. This will result in me hanging around outside in the rain.

HildaTablet · 13/01/2021 12:55

I went out for a damp walk round our village - only 30 minutes but I needed some air - came back and started putting together another loaf because we’re out of bread. Felt glad of my 16kg sack of flour, previously purchased. It gives me a reassuring feeling to know I’ve got things in store-cupboards.

Sheusedtobesomeonelse · 13/01/2021 13:35

Great to hear through everyones not so dull news, hope the self isolation is going ok - the scenario where everyone else is free to leave the house is def the best!
I did a quick shop and put petrol in the car at lunchtime - i am going to the office tomorrow for the first time since 27th ocotber! trying not to think about my annual appraisal too much before then..

The weather has turned, 12° difference between yesterdays (-6°) 5:30 run and todays (6°), crazy weather!

Keep posting @atz333, stay strong, MN would have saved my bacon when my DDs were babies.

Deathraystare · 13/01/2021 13:44

Was trying to do a Bodan order when I realised my card was no where to be seen :{

I remember buying stuff in my local small Sainsburys then going across the road to get the bus but before that checking my account outside the small Tescos. I cannot say for sure that I had put my card back in the small metal card case I have but the only card there now is the Boots one.

I don't have any info on me as at work now (and wasn't expecting this!) so they've put a stop on it for now and I will have to phone back when I get home. Bugger.

I am such a knobhead!

Spudlet · 13/01/2021 13:57

We made salt dough this morning and made an alien. It’s been in the oven for three hours and counting, and it still hasn’t hardened up Confused I haven’t made salt dough since I was DS’s age (and obviously I wasn’t actually the person making it then) so not sure what to expect of this process. Hoping we’ll be able to paint said alien tomorrow but it might still be baking at this rate Grin

My Tinder profile has been liked by my college friend’s (ex?)husband. We’ve never actually met in person so I don’t know if he knows I’ve been friends with her for 26 years, and she and I have kind of lost touch a little bit over the last 10 years so I can only confirm from her FB that they’re definitely separated. I’m certainly not going to match with him, and I’m probably not going to say anything to her about it either, but I might drop her a message to say hi.

MissConductUS · 13/01/2021 14:06

@Taswama - does your blood pressure run low? That can cause episodes of dizziness.

I'm in the office but will be leaving a bit early to pick up my night guard from the dentist. I grind my teeth in my sleep, which has caused relentless, expensive dental problems.

I've been sneezing all morning. I hope it's not a cold coming on.

I fed my starter as I baked a loaf yesterday and need to build it back up. I’ve also been on a walk and chatted with my neighbour. DH made a delicious sausage casserole. Then I had mince pies and custard.

Nydj · 13/01/2021 14:54

Hello everyone, I hope the self-isolation is going ok and that the Shingles isn’t too awful although, sadly, the only people I know have had it have had it pretty bad.

Work is very slow at the moment and I admit that I am finding it tough - the guilt of not working when I am supposed to be working is bad. Am trying to use the time to catch up on work-related reading.

It is grey and miserable weather here. I went into the garden yesterday and was disappointed to find some crocosmia had crept under the path and their leaves were coming up between the pavers.

MissConductUS · 13/01/2021 14:55

Welcome, @KleineDracheKokosnuss and thanks for sharing your baking, walking and culinary news.

Is custard another general term for a sweet after a meal, like pudding is?

HeronLanyon · 13/01/2021 14:58

I over buttered my banana bread tin. Rather crispy around the edges. All the better for butter to melt into ! (Lashings obvs).

EggyPegg · 13/01/2021 15:08

Welcome @KleineDracheKokosnuss!

@MissConductUS, no custard is an egg based sauce that you pour over things like crumble.
www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/realpropercustard_65614

I'm not a fan unless it's in trifle.

EggyPegg · 13/01/2021 15:12

I told DS1 that he needed to turn his Dot down as he had it obnoxiously loud.
He argued with me, I told him it was at volume 3 at most or not at all. He's just come into my room (some 15 minutes later) and handed the whole thing to me. Plug and all. I need to laugh off his petulance, but it's actually made me very cross. I should go for a run to get it out of my system.

Champagneforeveryone · 13/01/2021 15:25

Hmph, my isolation is not being overturned after all.

My mind is now full of all the places I could go, if only I was allowed Hmm

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 13/01/2021 15:28

Thank you @MissConductUS for the welcome.

Custard is a vanilla flavour yellow colour sauce, served hot over things like jam sponge or types of sweet pie. It is a good of the gods so far as I am concerned. :)

iklboo · 13/01/2021 15:35

We watched Emma last night (Anya Taylor Joy version). Rather enjoyable.

iklboo · 13/01/2021 15:38

Thanks all for the well wishes. It's under my boob & on my ribs so bloody painful. Tired all the time. Send gin! Grin

Taswama · 13/01/2021 15:53

My blood pressure does tend to be quite low @MissConductUS although I've not had it measured in ages.
DP suggested anaemia, which I've had in the past (turned away from blood donation) but I pointed out I haven't had a period in 10 years (coil not menopause) so I'm not sure that's likely. Sorry if tmi for this gentle thread!

MissConductUS · 13/01/2021 16:04

Taswama If it happens again you should consider getting one of those blood pressure machines with the cuff that will let you measure it at home whenever you like. Very low BP can be a hazard, particularly if you're driving.

We also have egg based custard here, but pudding here is used to refer to a particular dessert, not as a general term for dessert. I wasn't sure if custard was used similarly in the UK.

Welcome, @HeronLanyon, and thanks for sharing your news. There's a lot of baking new on this thread and banana bread comes up frequently.

I made a few people laugh today with my dog. He had his coat and boots on and apparently it's amusing. 😂😂😂

This was pre walk 😁

I remember the American ‘pudding’ usage from an episode of The Gilmore Girls where the grandmother implies that pudding is an inferior kind of thing to serve after dinner.

Don’t know where to walk the dog this evening. It doesn’t really matter as it’s just a case of which dark street to pick. I hate winter.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 13/01/2021 17:06

@QuestionableMouse - He needs a hat.

We are having a little thunderstorm and I did not get wet, at least not very.
I brought work home - I didn't want to be alone in the office. It's creepy.

Champagneforeveryone · 13/01/2021 17:26

In crisis news, there are no click and collect slots at any of my 3 Waitrose stores, or the big Sainsbury's.

Aldi has recently started to do it as well and I could cobble an order with them, but they are also fully booked. I have managed to secure a Tesco slot for the middle of the night tomorrow and am staggered at how much cheaper my shopping is. It just needs to actually turn up now Grin

It is. Pudding in the US mostly comes as a powder in a box that you mix with milk and let set in the fridge:

Pudding mix like this is also used as a pie filling. It's not horrible, but it's not great either. It is very cheap and easy to make.
