Do you have karndean?

We are considering karndean flooring. It's either that or engineered wood.

We've had a quote through and just waiting for a second one. Would you recommend your karndean? Anything I need to know?

Is that the stick on vinyl flooring?

Yes - in our very high traffic dining room which is also the access point to all of the rest of the house and garden with back door and staircase leading from it.

We went for the slate effect and it's been down 17 years now and still looks like new.

@Britsy I'm assuming that as you're having to ask, you don't have it

I think I'm right in saying you can't stream clean it. Only negative I can think of !

You're right - shouldn't be steam cleaned. But it's been a while since I steam cleanser anything since I discovered this ridiculous flash floor mops! I've become lazy

Good to know that it stays looking good for a while. I would love engineered wood BUT the job is so much bigger and probably a lot more expensive. Although we will pay for what will look and wear the best

I got sold LVT luxury vinyl tile flooring as this and it's awful... really hard to clean scratches really easy if you get told oh this lvt is brill... it's not!!

Depends what room it’s for. We have Karndean in the kitchen and we have engineered wood in the hallway and living room.
It’s practical for the kitchen but for the other rooms I prefer the look and feel of engineered wood.

@FrostyGotFurloughed sorry to hear that. What a nightmare. It's definitely karndean we'd be having!

We have it in the hall and living room. You don't need to steam clean it, it comes up beautifully with a spray mop. Ours is dark wood effect, its been in the house longer than us. Its quite nice though I slightly prefer Amtico. I think engineered wood is a pain? Karndean is very easy to look after.

Hall looks good as new despite buggies, scooters, bikes and roller skates beating it to death over the last five years!

@Grinnypig Its for the whole of downstairs bar our living room. So a 42ft kitchen diner , hallway, study and downstairs loo.

Yes we have it in 5 rooms. Live on a farm and it copes really well with muddy, doggy, horsey lifestyle

We've got it in our living room, we've been here 5yrs and it was here when we moved in, it was put in approx 10yrs ago I would say I know which previous owner did it. Its looking good! I put a scratch in it by pulling my sofa forward to clean and unfortunately there was a stone underneath. That's the only mark. We have a cat, a dog and 2 kids age 3 & 6. It's warm underfoot. I would look at getting it myself.

We have it in our hall and kitchen- fitted around 8 years ago. Looks great and is easily cleaned too

Mine runs through the kitchen, dining, room and conservatory (open plan) been down since 2002 and looks good still. It has faded a bit in the conservatory as it's a real sun trap in there but has faded evenly, tbh it's only because the kitchen is still a bit darker that I can tell the difference. Mine is not the wood effect but highly recommended.

We’ve had it in our kitchen for about 9 years. I do like it but there are a couple of marks on it. Not sure what from.
The engineered wood in hall and living room - much bigger area - does look and feel much better. We’ve had it for about five years. Still looks as good as day one. I will admit it’s just two of us here.

We have one of the top grade Karndeans (they are all different) in the DCs bathrooms. Its a practical option for a bathroom due to water and steam and gives the look of wood. It clearly isn't though and it does scratch and so you have to be a little bit careful with it.

We have karndean that came with the house, first time that I'm hearing about not steam cleaning it! I have been ignorantly steam mopping it once a week for 5 years now
It's a dark wood effect and still looks alright, a few knocks here and there but I've covered them with brown sharpie

I'm obtaining a quote for engineered wood as my heart lies there if I'm honest but karndean looks great and it's potentially a lot cheaper. Good to know it's easy to look after

Would be seriously surprised if the quote for engineered comes back cheaper, but I guess there is a price range for both.
I think ours is the Van Gogh type if they still do that. I am happy with it but because DH wanted to go with the thickest wear layer, normally used commercially, I think it has more of a sheen to it. Has worn massively better than the engineered wood in the other room

Btw it is often the fitting cost that pushes up the karndean as the sub floor prep is very important

Yes and I love it. It's five years old and still looking perfect, no issues at all. Large downstairs space- hallway from the front door down into kitchen-dining room. Very high traffic area, where we live most of the time.

I very rarely mop it (no shoes in the house, no pets, weekly hoover) and it comes up beautifully with hot water and some special cleaning solution from the floor fitter, for Karndean.

Couldn't recommend more highly.

This is it. Needs a hoover tho!
