Do you have karndean?

We are considering karndean flooring. It's either that or engineered wood.

We've had a quote through and just waiting for a second one. Would you recommend your karndean? Anything I need to know?

Thanks

Classic, not class is

FlamingoAtTheBingo · 08/01/2021 19:12

@gerbo we currently have very large flat tiles and the fitter can lay over them - after screed etc of course - so this helps a bit

Sounds good! Good luck with the work.

Thanks! I love the look of yours and it's exactly what we are going for

I have it and it looks nice but it doesn't look real at the end of the day and is no substitute for the real thing

Nikhedonia · 08/01/2021 20:17

Watching with interest as I'm considering this for my kitchen.

justasking111 · 08/01/2021 20:34

After buying a house with new carpets, beige in the hall after four years of dogs it was awful, finally decided on Karndean. Not a dark wood but a pale herringbone pattern, oh my god it is wonderful been down a month only mopped once after the joiner had fitted new doors and was tramping in and out in the rain for days. I was worried a pale colour was the wrong choice but the hall was dark so boldly went for it.

DinosApple · 08/01/2021 20:44

We've inherited it in our new house. Looks good, ours is white 🤦‍♀️, but I've only swept it so far and still looks clean. It's in the kitchen, diner, utility and boot room.
There's three scrapes across five tiles from where they got some furniture out, but there's spare tiles to replace them.
I've got a spray mop for cleaning but haven't bothered yet.

Lulu1919 · 08/01/2021 20:47

We have it all of the downstairs plus both bathrooms
I love it 🥰

grumpytoddler1 · 08/01/2021 21:05

We also inherited it when we moved house and it has been brilliant. Ours is stone effect. Everyone assumes it's real stone but it's not as cold or hard as stone. There are a few scratches but not many, and you can only see them if you look carefully.

Pinkyandthebrainz · 08/01/2021 21:46

I have amtico. Love it. Sweep daily. E cloth mop every couple of days.

Pinkyandthebrainz · 08/01/2021 21:47

I bought felt pads for all the feet of my furniture

MissyBB · 08/01/2021 21:57

We have the Karndean Korloc in Baltic Oak. Its the click together type and fully waterproof. We steam clean it with no issues at all. Love Karndean, much tougher than the wood which we had previously. 3 energetic boys who go kart and scoot around, love the durability and texture which laminates just don't have.

Another with Polyflor Camero here, about 10 years in the hall and had the same put down in the kitchen, utility ,& conservatory about 14 months ago.
Really pleased with it.
I steam mop mine.

Yes we love our karndean, but ours is a stone finish, get the vax one blade to clean it amazing 🤩

Annamaywong25 · 08/01/2021 22:16

Had it in a previous property in 2004. Loved it. As far as I know it's still going strong in the house (I work with my neighbour's brother, who knows them).

Such a helpful thread! Does anyone have the abstract tiles or know much about them?

We're considering them for our hallway in our Victorian terrace (we haven't ripped up the old floor yet to see what's underneath).

theliverpoolone · 08/01/2021 22:48

@FlamingoAtTheBingo that's interesting, as my potential fitters have said the (very old) tiles on my floor will have to come up, which I'm a bit worried about. I'm getting someone else out to quote so I'll see what he says. I'm leaning towards trying for Karndean if possible now, having seen all the positive comments here Smile

My friend nearly had the abstract flooring in her hallway, but when she factored in all the doors, the staircase and the fact that the plain edgings necessary into doorways meant that the pattern looked a little mean so she has opted for plain. It does depend on the width length of your hallway and how many doors you have off it. I noticed karndean do some kind of imaging software so you can somehow photograph your existing room and overlay it with tiles you like.

Strange I would have assumed they would have floated a screed across the floor over the old tiles, unless there is a threshold problem or you have loose tiles. Wait and see what the other people say.

justasking111 · 08/01/2021 23:01

I found the best places to research were instagram and Houzz for colours look of the flooring.

FlamingoAtTheBingo · 08/01/2021 23:43

@justasking111 well, one was adamant that it was no issue to screed over our existing tiles and then lay the karndean. This made sense to us as our floor tiles are very large and only 4 years old. No cracks, chips or unevenness

The other one was adamant that he'd have to remove the tiles which is quite a big job and would take a whole day or maybe more.

Both highly recommended fitters but first guy quoting 3k ish for the job and 2nd guy quoting 4.3k

So it's all in the tile removal. And we honestly don't think they need pulling up

Laying over existing tiles will raise your finished floor level.

JerichosPenisInADeadChickHat · 08/01/2021 23:55

You'll raise the floor level.

FlamingoAtTheBingo · 09/01/2021 01:06

He measured etc and said it wasn't an issue for us? Hmm I hope that's right! He's 25 years in the business and I 'know of' his work etc etc as he's local and plenty of friends and colleagues have used him
