What's your daily pleasure?

I am currently on mat leave with a 2mo and wild 2.5 yo. I am really struggling. I think I need something to look forward to every day so wondered what your daily pleasure is? Need some inspiration!

Every day pleasure?

For me that's a coffee in the morning to start the day. Nice coffee, frothed milk and I get up earlier than the rest of the family. I really enjoy it.

There are other things I enjoy myself, but coffee is the only thing EVERY day

StarlightLady · 15/01/2021 14:23

@Wearywithteens - Excuse me? I did mention something which takes batteries and sets me up for the day ahead. I wasn’t referring to a torch to read a book under the duvet with on a dark morning.

LER83 · 15/01/2021 14:38

I signed up to a monthly book subscriptions, so I try to get in some reading everyday. At the moment I try to get all my jobs done by 4pm, which is also my childrens computer time, then whilst they are occupied I have a glass of wine and read until I need to start making dinner. It has really improved my mood!

Iamblossom · 15/01/2021 14:45

I am teaching myself to play the piano (very slowly) as asked for a keyboard for xmas - it is bringing me great pleasure.

Sitting with a glass of wine and a magazine/the paper/the shopping list/my book/some colouring at the kitchen table at about 5.30pm gives me pleasure.

Walking my dogs with an audio book.

Running with pumping house music with my new air pods.

Doing yoga in my newly build She Shed in the garden.

All sounds very worthy and boring and middle aged but all true none the less.

Doffodils · 15/01/2021 14:54

A run and I've decided this is the year I learn to drawn and am making a point of spending 30mins daily drawing. It's very therapeutic.

Doffodils · 15/01/2021 14:55

Are you allowed to do both of those? I'm finding myself choosing between a run or a walk with the family.

Iamblossom · 15/01/2021 14:59

True I will do one or the other per day.

Although mainly because if I run I get my kids to walk the dogs, not because of rules - I can't see any issue with me running on my own encountering no-one and walking 4 hours later also on my own, also encountering no-one.

Wearywithteens

🤔 is it?

LittleSwede · 15/01/2021 17:03
@LittleSwede do you have a particular eye brow set you use? Mine are looking appalling after pretty much a year of no threading!
I just use a Rimmel brown eyebrow pencil, spent years faffing about with all sorts of eye brow kits and gels but I I fund this the easiest for creating some shape and colour to my very light and sparse brows. Mind you, I don't go for the trendy think brows but rather a noughties style brow Smile

Very good coffee and a cigarette in the garden when only me and the birds are awake. Its the one time of the day I feel truly peaceful. Even when its freezing/pishing down I still enjoy it.

peaceanddove · 15/01/2021 18:23

Taking a cup of Lady Grey tea and a book up to bed for a very early night. Even better if it's raining or windy outside Smile

Concernedmother67 · 15/01/2021 19:04

Doing my make up.

Camomila · 15/01/2021 19:09

lunch time on work days...I emerge from DS1s room at 1pm to a lovely cooked lunch (DM is in our support bubble and looks after the DC in the living room). I eat lunch, cuddle the DC, make myself a coffee and then go back to work/peace and quiet!

Sometimes she even brings lasagne with her.

EarringsandLipstick · 15/01/2021 19:21

@Camomila wow. That's better than 'normal' life, I'm guessing. Sounds wonderful: a quiet space to work & a lovely lunch served up trying v hard not to be green with envy

I ❤️ this thread.

Trying to reflect on my own. I'm a single parent to 3 kids, v limited support from their father, working f/t. At moment wfh plus home schooling - only 1 week into that (Ireland) & it's a shock since the last time. So self-care has been nearly non-existent 😞

I try to do an online fitness class at 630 each morning. I often don't love that as I'm so tired at the moment, I'm barely awake. But I love the 10 minutes or so after it ends, when DC are not yet up, and I feel virtuous & I run around quickly tidying up & getting the day started.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 15/01/2021 19:45

I buy proper soap - I discovered Chateau du Savon thanks to MN. I have one by each sink, so loo, kitchen etc - and they scent the room and don't dry my skin.

Real coffee.

An evening walk before bed, seeing everyone else in their lit-up houses.

A proper warm coat for when it's chilly.

Seasaltyhair · 15/01/2021 19:47

Cheese and crackers when the kids go bed.

I’ve got to QUIT!

MrsMime · 15/01/2021 19:59

Coffee in bed in the morning.
Cuddling up with DP in the evening and watching a box set.

Deathraystare · 16/01/2021 08:15

That first cup of tea. Nectar!

chocolatesweets · 16/01/2021 08:20

Solero

movingonup20 · 16/01/2021 08:32

@Wearywithteens

Yes, not sure I dare post that now! The difference is my kids are adults, I've only been with my dp 15 months and only lived together for 8 months so I'm in a different place. We both enjoy our pot of coffee though, being wfh.

Equimum · 16/01/2021 08:37

I have a really indulgent soak in the bath with the l’Occitane bath oil I got for Christmas. So relaxing.

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 16/01/2021 08:49

@Thistles24

Every morning I get up 15 mins earlier than the kids. I do a 10 minute Pilates stretch from YouTube, and then have a coffee from my cafetière in my favourite mug. Any other time of the day I just have instant, in whichever mug comes to hand, but that first one I take a wee bit more time for and it sets me up for the day. It’s a very simple and inexpensive pleasure, but makes a big difference to me. Another one I do is to light a candle when I start cleaning, so by the time I’m finished I can sit down in a beautiful looking and smelling room. I really wasn’t much of a candle person before I discovered this tip, but it makes me feel like I’ve got things more together for some reason!
But don't you open your windows while you clean?
LickEmbysmiling · 16/01/2021 08:59
