Moisturiser - if you had a limited budget what would you suggest?

My thirties have crept up on me and I need a decent.. or at least affordable.. moisturiser. My skin is generally dry, can be oily around the T zone during TOTM.
My husband is currently the sole wage earner so although I have some money to myself I'm looking under the £10 mark. Not looking for miracles, just hoping for a decent no frills product that will prevent if not cure!

I love Nivea soft (it's completely different to the traditional variety)

Prettybubblesintheair · 07/01/2021 11:39

Boots your good skin range is amazing for me.

Lightsabre · 07/01/2021 11:45

The Waitrpse Pure range is great - Day and Night Moisturisers for around £5. I have sensitive skin so couldn't get on with the Aldi range or Nivea etc due to additives.

I use Boots Fragrance Free Moisturising Cream. It’s £1.50 for 100ml. My skin is very sensitive and can be oily and dry like yours and this cream is the only one I found that suited me and it’s cheap! I’ve tried so many but this is the only one I would recommend.

I use rose hip oil. £10 for a bottle that will last ages! I have oily skin too and somehow I do t know how it really helps haha. You only need a few drops so really does last ages and can also be used for hair!

Gogreengoblin · 07/01/2021 13:58

Moogoo full cream moisturiser!🐄
It's an Aussie brand and has very gentle ingredients with no petrochemicals and has barely any scent. It has lovely almond oil and milk protein in and smells very lightly of vanilla.
I get a massive tube and by just using it twice a day on my face, it lasts me about 8 months.
It costs around £12 when not on sale but I bull bought mine from Holland and Barratt for £9 on sale so bought about 5!!!
I've been using it for about 6 years and lots of people with skin conditions love it... people on chemo use it also.
There are other creams they do too.

I use Palmers cocoa butter on my body and face. It absorbs well and she's the bring me out in spots. It works well on my dry winter hands and legs. Also smells of chocolate. Yum.
I find floral moisturisers attract biting insects in summer.
The other thing to do is stay well hydrated with water and not milky drinks.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 07/01/2021 14:25

Aldi Q10

PowerhousePatty · 07/01/2021 16:15

Another Aldi recommendation here.

mscynical · 07/01/2021 16:24

Neutrogena Deep Moisture Comfort Balm - only about £5 in Boots/Superdrug and often with a third off so £3.25 which is when I buy a couple of pots.
Used it for years. The rest of me is collapsing but my face is defying ageing - so far!

TwilightSkies · 07/01/2021 16:27

Coconut oil. I use it to remove makeup and also moisturise. Only a small amount needed and it lasts for ages. Would never use anything else, skincare products are so full of chemicals.

purdypuma · 07/01/2021 17:46

Lidl Cien is what I use. Face cream, night cream, serum & eye cream. Think it comes to about a tenner for the four products & they suit my skin without any irritation. Aldi Lacura range also very good but for me the Lidl day cream is lighter & absorbs quicker. Not tested on animals either so cruelty free.

Itstheprinciple · 07/01/2021 18:40

I dontuinknyou can beat nivea. My ban always used it and she had beautiful skin. I was bought some olay and clarins stuff for Christmas which is lovely but I know full well I'll go back to the nivea when I've finished.

emmetgirl · 07/01/2021 18:45

Baby lotion!

wibblewombat · 07/01/2021 18:47

The Boots one, as above. Used it for years.

CaviarAndCigarettes · 07/01/2021 19:21

Crikey I am so astonished by the number of responses! I'm sorry I didn't return sooner. Thank you all so much for your suggestions, I will definitely look into the Aldi ones

Johnsons Face Care Daily Essentials. It’s about £3 a pot and it’s lovely.

chestnutshell · 07/01/2021 20:16

@TwilightSkies coconut oil isn’t good for most people’s skin. It clogs pores like nobody’s business. “Chemicals” aren’t necessarily bad when properly formulated for skin.

TwilightSkies · 07/01/2021 20:25

It doesn’t clog mine and it has massively reduced my oily t-zone. I never get spots now and my skin feels balanced.
It’s worth a try? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Indoctro · 07/01/2021 20:28

I use baby lotion and have done for years along with daily sunscreen and I'm 41 and I have really good skin with hardly any wrinkles

I swear by those things

Standrewsschool · 07/01/2021 20:28

Nivea -blue pot or Nivea soft

Simple range

What ever is on offer at the supermarket - I usually spend about £6, which is half price price.

Allispretty · 07/01/2021 20:43

Moisturisers will form a barrier on your face but for something penetrating I'd go with a serum (then really cheap bog standard moisturiser like the blue nivea)

The ordinary HA serum or the ordinary buffet.

Buffet is one I've noticed the most difference with on my skin really plumps it. I'm using Elemis at the minute (Xmas gift) and the ordinary is miles ahead.

OttomanViper · 07/01/2021 20:44

Nivea camomile is great, i get it at superdrug

Farewell2020 · 07/01/2021 20:50

Nivea soft.

SophieB100 · 07/01/2021 20:55

The original blue pot of Nivea, or Astral.
I switch between the two.
Used them for years.
I've been bought Clarins and really expensive ones as gifts, but always go back to these.
(Joanna Lumley swears by Astral!)
