Has anyone been happy with the home schooling provision provided today?

Just that really. I have been very impressed with the provision - I think that the teachers must have spent a lot of time over Christmas preparing for this. Yesterday was a planned INSET anyway but at 9am today my daughter had a recorded English, maths and geography lesson ready and a live assembly on Teams. All the lessons were interactive and the teacher was available via messaging. She struggles a bit with maths and the teacher has scheduled a breakout with her tomorrow.

They have offered to provide laptops and internet if households are struggling with having to share devices or internet service.

I am so impressed with her far they have come since the last lock down and just wondered how other schools are doing?

Although, in fairness my DS1 had a couple of live lessons on teams today, and ds2 had work uploaded to his app. I’m happy with what he had.

Theres a thread atm asking what parents want from their children’s school. Read it and then you'll realise why it doesn't matter a jot what a school does, parents will still complain.

We had nothing today, got a full timetable from them for tomorrow though and I am struggling.

I'm glad they are providing so much for the kids, but mine are only 6 and 8, so still need a fair bit of help/encouragement and I need to wfh (and this month is due to be hectic). I can't see how we are going to manage it.

Last lockdown we had uninspiring tasks put on the school website, at first daily, towards the end weekly.

Today we had 3 uninspiring tasks on Google classroom, but I am hopeful that things will get better, just our school was sending emails yesterday saying how pleased they would be to have everyone back. They've had a ridiculous amount of work to do, because of the lack of foresight and notice from the government.

Yes quite happy, ds is year 12 and has had online lessons in his subjects today

All exam year students 10,11,12 and 13 were issued with dell chrome books a couple of months ago in preparation for this type of learning, school is a stand alone academy

We've had nothing. Been told we won't get anything until at least Thursday. This is after we were reassured a few months ago by the head that they always had a minimum of two weeks online work prepared for every year group in case of the need for pupils to isolate.

My daughter is in year 8. It's been great today but was pretty good last year anyway. There were a few glitches when it first started last year but it all seems to have been sorted.

Nickname also year 6 but we were aware we were going to be closed before yesterday as a London borough so maybe that makes a difference? All her English and maths she was able to do independently which made such a difference to the last lockdown as I am WFH full time.

DD6’s primary has been excellent. She moved schools at the beginning of the academic year and this school has far outshone her previous (prestigious and few paying) school.

Year 7 here and there are things DD can get on with. There will be live lessons next week, but this seems a way to ease her in. Also I’ve seen a lot of parents totally confused by logging into an online system they should have been using since September. So it gives time to sort those issues out.
Last year (year 6) we were sent some sheets from twinkl and that was it. I’m still annoyed.

Last lockdown they tried to keep them to a full timetable of 4/5 lessons a day. It was hell tbh. They asked for feedback and we all said too much work and not possible to keep them on track. They reduced to two, occasionally three lessons a day but slightly more work so everything got covered. It's worked really well so I hope they'll keep to that again this time. We will know tomorrow I guess but so far no complaints here.

So glad to hear some positives - but we have PE scheduled for tomorrow afternoon so not sure how that will play out if I have a call!
Would like to just say that my DD is at an ordinary but very good state junior school, not a private and I think the offering has been great. I wish I could name them without outing myself!

Yes it’s been good. No complaints. The whole half term is actually already up on their site plus live sessions 3x a day

Appreciate wfh whilst trying to log 2x young DC into various zoom calls is a hectic but do 100% appreciate that they have gone to all this effort

Teachers are also super responsive to emails

Looks like KW DC also participate in all of this as my DD1 mentioned she had seen her friends who were in school on the zoom (keeping in mind a parallel thread where KW were not receiving anything)

And we had a survey back last term re devices and WiFi access so hoping they have also solved for that where needed

Last March lockdown down was awful. My ds heard from his teacher in about the 11th week into Covid and all they had were crappy links. Nothing was marked. Teacher was laughing about being at home doing nowt etc....very annoying Hmm

This time they have a vid at the start of the day outlining the days tasks. Definitely pre-recorded some days ago in school. Then there are 4 lessons. We had Maths, Eng, French and RE today. All on PPT with audio dialogue to follow or other materials Much better and very pleased with the preparation. Still hard to WFH and teach...but I appreciate the effort of our teachers this time around.

In theory, yes. There were a few teething problems that meant the lessons that were planned today were not delivered but I'm definitely not holding that against them on the first day and I'm pleased with the timetable that has been set out. I hope things will go more smoothly tomorrow. We knew we were shutting down at the end of last week if that makes any difference.

I was happy with what we got. Dd (yr5) was isolating for 2 weeks pre Christmas and then the school closed, so 3 weeks in total. 2 half hour meetings to check in and PowerPoint lessons with workbooks. The class structure at school lends itself well to online learning as one teacher is covering all subjects per class so just uploads the resources she would have used. I would like some live lessons as it would be more engaging but I'm perfectly happy with what we have

Yes, y7. I could hear the lessons and I felt sorry for the teachers having to teach in this way. Obviously lots of planning went into it, they’ve really risen to the challenge.

Primary school is apparently just as bad as last year. It’s a disgrace.

We've had an INSET day in this house.
I've been moving furniture to try and get a better set up and ease some practical difficulties of being at the kitchen table (it doesn't matter if the conservatory door is blocked at this time of the year.

However the work set was despite being an emergency measure, better in format than what we had last time from one of the teachers.

My two weren't affected by isolations but 3 classes had a week off so systems have been used and more standardised. One clearly put in a good effort last year and the other... didn't.
