Can we share annoying neighbours during lockdown stories?

Like many people I am stuck at home, trying to work, with teen dd in another room, also doing a full day of school work followed by homework. It’s very quiet, except for my neighbour playing music all afternoon at full volume. (She is fully aware that this is anti social as other people have spoken to her about this in the past. And yes, I have posted about this before...)

Fortunately I am only living here for another few months but in the meantime I would be comforted by other stories of annoying and selfish neighbour behaviour !

Next door having noisy BBQs with lots of alcohol which is both irritating and illegal in equal measure.

And who exactly has BBQs through the winter anyway?!

Notcontent · 05/01/2021 16:31

BBQ? That’s odd - maybe they have convinced themselves that an outdoor gathering is ok. I sympathise...

I'm worried I'll appear on here. Trying my hardest to stop my 3 year old screaming tantrums Blush

Is anyone from 10 or 12 Downing Street on the forum?

I think any decent neighbour would sympathise. I can remember what it’s like to have a screaming child...

Our neighbour spent the summer finally doing the landscaping to his garden with his radio on loud. There were lots of noisy tools involved too.

Toddlersareirrational · 05/01/2021 18:04

Next door bought their kids a drum kit for Christmas!

PatchworkElmer · 05/01/2021 18:06

@MinnieMountain I wonder if we have the same neighbour Grin

NoJetter · 05/01/2021 18:06

My next door neighbours told me they are sleep training their 9 month old. And by sleep training it sounds like leaving him to scream himself to sleep. 4 hours solid screaming at 3am last night. Right next to our bedroom. I have 2 small children and I have complete sympathy for how hard it is when you have a non sleeping baby but listen to him scream and no one coming to comfort him is stressful.

psychomath · 05/01/2021 18:31

My neighbours are generally fine, but one of them spent about ten minutes drunkenly (I assume) trying to get into my house earlier. I was too shattered to get up and direct him to his own front door so I just left him to it. He must have realised eventually because I heard him muttering "ah shit", followed by his own door opening about five seconds later Grin

We lived with both neighbours (terraced house) doing major renovations during Lockdown 1.0. It started in February...

Unrelated, we moved out in September (into a flat temporarily) and the flat above began their renovations literally two weeks later. They finished right before Christmas by which point, I had forgotten what it’s like to live somewhere quiet. It was a total coincidence but I couldn’t believe it when the workmen arrived to completely gut the flat 🤦🏻‍♀️

Hmmph · 05/01/2021 19:03

Same here LondonStone! Both side and also throughout the whole pandemic too.

So hard trying to work from home with zoom calls and homeschool with your neighbours using a pneumatic drill by your wall. Or hammering. Or singing to their radio.. At least it is winter now and we can keep doors and windows closed without suffocating.

And they moved out because it was too disruptive for them, but didn’t even have the decency to apologise to us.

MinnieMountain · 05/01/2021 19:53

@PatchworkElmer sadly I suspect there’s more than one of him.

CisMyArse · 05/01/2021 20:02

My neighbour is quiet enough apart from the 10 major throat clearances and spittage into his garden every day.

He also gets up early to burn paperwork and, judging by the rancid stench, some plastics too. It was hell in the summer and the stink penetrated the house even with the doors and windows shut.

PatchworkElmer · 05/01/2021 20:06

@MinnieMountain wish they all lived together! Mine has a yappy dog too. Lovely.

MinnieMountain · 05/01/2021 20:10

@PatchworkElmer it’s not a Westie is it? If so- hello Sue.

ComDummings · 05/01/2021 20:13

During lockdown 1 my neighbours behind my house bought a karaoke mic. It was during the spring when it was really hot and I wanted the windows and the back door open so my kids could just come in and out. I’m not joking they sang on this mic for hours every day, sometimes actually outside in their garden. It was awful!

That's unfortunate family noise.

I always think it's more annoying for the parent in the room and thank my lucky stars mine is not a toddler anymore Grin

They have a bar outside, which they sit in, which kind of defeats the object as it's not in the house, but is absolutely indoors as you can shut the doors and turn the heaters on, so a lovely warm space with multiple people, perfect for a virus! So it's not like they're having a traditional summer bbq, more like grab a burger and go to the bar kind of thing. The bar has a great sound system. Very .. loud.

@MinnieMountain haha no! Looks like a fox terrier to me.

Erictheavocado · 05/01/2021 20:46

Next door but one neighbours on both sides embarked upon major building work to their houses during the first lockdown. One built an extension and did a loft conversion, the other built a massive extension at the back and have just started building a while new house adjoining the original house (eot house with a decent plot of land). My next door neighbours sound as though they have gutted the house and refurbished, despite having done this when they moved in three years ago. Of course, how they spend their money is entirely their choice, but - the constant noise. Apart from that, they have completely disregarded the lockdown/tier rules since March. Regular playdates for the children (with accompanying adults, so not helping with childcare) as well as frequent - almost daily- visits from several family members.

dingledongle · 05/01/2021 20:52

My NDN have a second home in Spain which they could not get too until September so from March onwards we had flamenco and Spanish music all the time while they sat in the garden sunning themselves. 💩

Canyoncall · 05/01/2021 20:54

NDNs both teachers (he has penchant for power drills in the school holidays) - it has already started! And no this is not a "teacher-bashing" post!

ChristopherTracy · 05/01/2021 20:55

My neighbours had loud sex in their hot tub. Shock
