Do you have an electric blanket?

I'm thinking of getting one. DP doesn't want one but he's only here at weekends, I need something to keep me warm when he's not here to cuddle up to! Are they worth it? What brands should I look out for/avoid?

This thread is slightly old now so some of the suggestions may be outdated, but if you’ve landed here looking for Mumsnetter-approved recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best electric blanket page with loads of great options that have been tried and tested by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

I love mine, it has separate controls for each side of the bed so your DP can remain cold if he wants to.

No because I love getting into a cold bed.
Added bonus for fresh sheets.
Today is my lucky day Grin

MsMiaWallace · 04/01/2021 15:15

Got bought one for Christmas!
Had one before.
Love it. DH doesn't though.
I put it on for a bit before I go to bed
So it's nice & toasty!

Itstheprinciple · 04/01/2021 15:23

Yes, yes, yes! As above, separate controls. Dh likes his side on all night. I just like mine on when I get into bed yo take the chill off or if I go to the loo in the night I put it on to warm me back up.

billy1966 · 04/01/2021 15:25

Yes, love it. A single one on my side of the bed.
Nothing like it on a freezing night.

I like a very cold bedroom with a window open too.

froggywentacarolling · 04/01/2021 15:29

Yes, I couldn't be without mine! Considering getting another just for the sofa.

Twobrews · 04/01/2021 15:31

Hell no! A cold bed is blissful.

MustBeThin · 04/01/2021 15:34

I've had a dreamland mattress topper for a few years, love it. Nothing worse than getting into a cold bed in winter.

ShirleyPhallus · 04/01/2021 15:37

Yes I’ve got one and it’s amazing. Particularly good for wrapping around me while WFH

BlackDogBlues · 04/01/2021 15:40

We've got the dual control type on the bed. Love it - as I hate getting into a cold bed. Also turn it on the night when I wake up cold - that happens less often now we have a dog. She sneaks up for a cuddle at about 3am.

ForeverBubblegum · 04/01/2021 15:40

Get one, there amazing. I've had to stop using mine because I always end up with children in my bed, so can't risk either overheating baby or toddler weeing on it. But as soon as they're old enough to stay in their own beds it's coming out of retirement.

Wiglio · 04/01/2021 16:18

I have a single on my side of the bed
Love getting into a warm bed and the other side is quite cold

justanotherneighinparadise · 04/01/2021 16:21

Oh god yes. Honestly I wouldn’t be without it. There’s nothing better than starfishing in a hot bed when you’re fucking freezing.

midsomermurderess · 04/01/2021 16:21

Yes, and I love it too. Heats up very quickly and right now is a God send.

MrsDThomas · 04/01/2021 16:39

Oh no! Hate a hot bed. Im one to throw away the duvet in the night and wake up at 6:30 deathly cold😂

Fuckityfucksake · 04/01/2021 16:51

Yes and I love it. I have thyroiditis and find it hard to warm up if I get cold.
Dh doesn't love it as much me haha He rarely uses his side, maybe twice in the whole of winter but my side is on every night for 15 mins.
Yes to buying one with separate controls. They're way better.

BlueCowWonders · 04/01/2021 16:54

Yup. What she said Grin

To be honest, I sometimes have to put it on in summer!

fussychica · 04/01/2021 16:58

No. Used to have one years ago but our current house always seems so warm I've never felt the need. We don't even have the heating on in our bedroom.

toomuchlikemyusername · 04/01/2021 16:58

I have a dual control one with a range of temperature settings as well as different timer settings. I crank it up to 6 before I go to bed and then leave it on a lower temperature while I'm awake and reading. It's designed so it can be safely slept on while it is switched on. It switches off after an hour and there is also an all night option. If I wake up in the night, it's often because I'm cold, so I pop it on for an hour and usually find I then drift off again.
I love my electric blanket very, very much.

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 04/01/2021 17:01

Love mine so so much. The overnight setting just keeps me toasty. Makes it harder to get up in the morning though because I’m so comfy. Mines an el cheapo one from a supermarket so you don’t have to spend £££.

spoonrace · 04/01/2021 17:01

Got one a few weeks ago and don't know how I've gone so long without one. I have it on the sofa - ideal so I can watch TV and not have the central heating cranked so high.

AlwaysLatte · 04/01/2021 17:03

Not a whole blanket but I've got a plug in heat pad that I got before my back operation and it's so lovely and toasty!

lynsey91 · 04/01/2021 17:03

No way would I want one. Even with only a summer duvet on I get too hot in the night. It would make me feel ill

Mintjulia · 04/01/2021 17:06

No, I have a fluffy cased hot water bottle which I cuddle. Bliss.

ThreeLadsPointingAtAStar · 04/01/2021 17:08

We used to but this year we got a bamboo mattress protector and we haven't needed the electric blanket as because it is so warm
