Another thread in the saga filled up (so no forwards link)

I think maybe we're endurance athletes, or maybe multievent like a decathlon Grin

.. can I just say its a fucking shitshow! the man is incompetent!

(I know we all think this but I need to say it somewhere - I cant rage anywhere else and have to bite my tongue!)

Evenstar · 04/01/2021 17:38

PP saying she had been shouted at for not wearing a mask outside reminded me that this morning I saw someone fetching their bin in with a mask and latex gloves on. I think when things eventually get back to normal the AD’s may fare a little better than some 🙄

LivinLaVidaLoki · 04/01/2021 17:54

@Mrsfrumble

I think I could just about cope with the children at home until the end of January. If schools were closed any longer I think the government would have to suspend the curriculum like they did in the summer term. There are a million reasons why remote learning will not be adequate (or even accessible) for too many children, no matter how hard schools and teachers try.
I occasionally think the same but when I see how long it takes to reopen once its shut I just can't see it.

Because the government never set any clear parameters for the opening and closing of stuff it just drags on, I suspect based on public opinion....and we all know who shout the loudest.....so we just cannot trust that things will reopen when they should and I don't want my child's future gambled and bargained with that way.

People here begging for lockdown because our weekly cases are up 200%. Theuve gone from 6 to 18. In a town of 141000.

Fancy a game?

Excellent

DH who is a full dementor is saying "well I told you it was what was needed".
I told him I'm not doing childcare this time around solo and he can talk to his employer. His tune has changed to "can we get a nanny". Twat.

flower11 · 04/01/2021 18:12

How about
Dear public I am very sorry for all the bullshit I have fed you over the last 2 days and I have no balls so here it is......... in these unprecedented times .....

mightbealittlebitmad · 04/01/2021 18:20

If schools are closing so soon what was the point in sending them back?! I can't see how things have suddenly got so much worse in 48 hours that an almost immediate closure is necessary. I really do feel like they are playing mind games with us now.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 04/01/2021 18:20

@RobinHobb

No, in any of our kids. *@BogRollBOGOF* Mine are 3 and 5 and what worries me is that they are beginning to think this is just how life is now. They no longer ask to go to soft play or to our local Italian cafe for lunch on weekends as we used to. In November we found one of the small local play cafes was actually open. I was so happy to take them: dd1 is a bit old for it but everyone was mask free, it was inside and not too busy and it was a beautiful taste of normality. I am so very tired of all this. Had warmed up kids to go to school on Wednesday; guessing it's not likely to happen.
Same here - my 4 and nearly 2 year old think this is just normal life. My 10 year old knows different.

Exactly!

This is awesome

I'm gonna need some form of caffeine to cope, single working mum here from home with my meetings to juggle and now a 10 year olds schedule.. logging on twice a day to see the class and all work done immediately... what a start to the year! Shock

110APiccadilly · 04/01/2021 18:32

Wales have closed schools, which means we're basically back to lockdown, just without calling it that. The only thing I can think of that's now open and wasn't in March is places of worship (though our church seem to have decided to move to online for the foreseeable future anyway...)

MercyBooth · 04/01/2021 18:33

Margaret Ferrier has been charged. Excellent timing.

TheOrchidKiller · 04/01/2021 18:34

"this morning I saw someone fetching their bin in with a mask and latex gloves on."
To be fair, that's probably necessary protection with post-Christmas bin collection timings. Grin

The speculation before every great announcement is making it feel so much worse.

dingit · 04/01/2021 18:35

Bloody Boris . breaking Dad moved to next week Angry

Bollss · 04/01/2021 18:36

Ffs just typed a right long message and deleted it.
Ds went back to school today. Might not be going tomorrow. It's like psychological terrorism.

In two minds whether to send him in anyway as am a keyworker.

wanderings · 04/01/2021 18:40

It’s just awful. Looking at the “back to March” rhetoric: we’re 10 months in, and it feels like ZERO PROGRESS has been made. The fucking plandemic should have been OVER by now. Economy absolutely decimated, going to get even worse, along with people’s lives and businesses. Schools likely to be closed for a long time (I don’t believe “two weeks” any more than pigs can fly). Exams probably cancelled again.

Alas, Saint Boris is going to bleat “oh but the vaccine, the vaccine”. Saint Boris couldn’t organise a piss-up in a brewery, never mind a sensible thing like a vaccine. He is going to mess it up big time.

JUST WHAT THE FUCK IS YOUR PROBLEM, SAINT BORIS??????

BogRollBOGOF · 04/01/2021 18:41

I said it at some point since Christmas, (this is how much my sense of time is buggered) DS1 said that he can't remember what normal is anymore. It certainly feels more hazy to me. It was simpler, freer and more spontaneous. It's not helped by the previous summer/ autumn/ winter being such a washout so we did less than usual then.

I've sent an email to school about both DCs' challenges, individually and combined.

It's crap but for the past 4-5 days they've done little but sit at tablets/ Switch/ TV. I'm done on dragging them around parks and country walks are too bloody muddy.

I was trying to remember how long we've been tier 4.. 5 days? It feels like forever because it's been so nothingy since the kids broke up on 17th Dec and the sports we've lost wouldn't have been back until tonight.

In cheerier news, I've had a run with a school mum and my fitness instructor has set up a motivational group to keep us connected and chatting while classes are banned.

Send him. Any school is better than none if he likes it. I would be sending DD2 in but neither DH nor I are critical workers (DH: I resent that. I am very critical Wink)

No idea what bin week it is. At least that's some excitement to look forwards to on Wednesday when Ì see what more organised neighbours put out.

Must go food shopping. Not been since 23rd December and however long ago that was, it's too long.
Now lunches for 2 or 4...?

"I really do feel like they are playing mind games with us now"
Now come on, to play a mind game you need a level of intelligence & cunning, & a certain amount of organised planning to see it through!

I'm guessing that most of those in charge have people to sort things out for them. They've probably never had to arrange childcare at 7am on a Snow Day, let alone organise home learning with a baby on your lap & dodgy wifi for weeks at a time. It wouldn't occur to them to consider giving parents notice.

I'm leaning towards it. He loves it. I'm so sad his first year has been so awful.

My DS is the same, he was so excited for football to start again this weekend, with school out as least he could see his friends there, but now with potential lockdown it could mean it's off yet again. He did the BBC thing with me this morning where you pick a topic and say how you're feeling and why you feel that way, he picked the world and very stressed about Covid Sad That makes me feel really sad, his sense of normality has changed, I keep reiterating this isn't normal and I will never consider it the new normal, it's a blip, just a bloody long one Angry
Taswama · 04/01/2021 19:00

Inset day for ds2 today. Yesterday evening the school sent a text asking us to check the website for an important update. It basically said we're looking forward to seeing you tomorrow, but as we are in tier 3 its even more important to socially distance etc, etc. Fine.
Another text today - please read urgent message on website.
New message - closed for everyone tomorrow due to self isolating/ union advice. And from Weds virtual only except for key workers only. England here.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 04/01/2021 19:01

My 5 year old broke my heart yesterday, she has been writing cards for her best friend and stuffed them in an envelope. She wanted to go on a walk to see if we could bump into her so she could give her the cards in case she can't see her until Summer. Given how long schools were shut last time I can understand why she feels that way (and f**k knows if she will ever get the assessment that they asked for in nursery last year as they had concerns then...poor little pickle)

SirSamuelVimes · 04/01/2021 19:02

I went food shopping today. What I didn't get was stuff to make lunch for elder DD as she's meant to be at bloody school! Angry
