If you won the lottery, would you still work?

Hypothetical sadly, but just musing with my colleagues.
If you won the lottery, I'm talking mega multiple millions, would you still work?

For me, police officer, I think I would do what I want for the first year, travel etc, and then come back and be a Special Constable (volunteer but with the same powers). That way I'd still feel my training etc hasn't been for nothing and I do love my job, so would be bored soon without it I think.

I'd probably get a p/t job where I can do as little as possible just to keep me sane whilst staring at my Bentley sitting outside

Minikievs · 02/01/2021 18:29

Fuck no

Happylittlethoughts · 02/01/2021 18:36

Would I fuck

pringlebells · 02/01/2021 18:40

I would have to do something I think my mental health would decline rapidly if not

gamerchick · 02/01/2021 18:44

No but I would increase my volunteer work full time. It's hard to get the right balance as volunteering would take over your life if you let it.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 02/01/2021 18:45

Yes, but less than now. I’m working all hours God sends now, I’ll be working for fun if I won.

Pedallleur · 02/01/2021 18:45

No. Life is too short. Off travelling wherever and whenever I could. Try and do it by train around Europe and Japan. Stay in nice hotels.

BringPizza · 02/01/2021 18:47

Nope. I would hand my notice in and do some volunteer work in a school or youth centre (used to be a teacher).

GlowingOrb · 02/01/2021 18:48

No. Work is a means to an end, Even though I have a fulfilling job.

I could easily fill several lifetimes with hobbies and personal pursuits.

Ginfordinner · 02/01/2021 18:49

Yes. I love my job. I work for and with lovely people, and it is good for my mental health. I'm 62 and dreading when I have to retire.

I work part time.

tillyandmilly · 02/01/2021 18:55

I work full-time - early 50’s will be slogging full time until I get my state pension! If I won the lottery I would sell up and move to the country with lots of acres of land to keep poorly mistreated animals -

Iwonder777 · 02/01/2021 18:56

No

PegasusReturns · 02/01/2021 19:32

Interesting the number of people saying they’d take lots of holiday, it’s the obvious choice but in reality it’s not that easy when you have DC.

Taking them out of school becomes detrimental as they get older and then they want to hang out with friends not decamp to somewhere else on the last day of term.

missmouse101 · 02/01/2021 19:43

Yes. I take a pride in working, it sets a good example and I like to be purposeful.

Saranvenya · 02/01/2021 20:01

Yes and no.
The field I work in is under valued and getting a paying job really hard, we are 'expected' to volunteer even after 4+ years of expensive training when no other profession is.
I would probably research into what it would take to get more protection for us and clients and get rid of all the charlatans.

midsomermurderess · 02/01/2021 20:03

Not on your nelly. The next 2 years til I can claim my occupational pension are in front of me like a mountain.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 02/01/2021 20:05

I’d give up what I do now and go back to charity work.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 02/01/2021 20:05

And since I won £6.50 yesterday and am due to go back to work on Monday, I am giving is some serous thought...

PicsInRed · 02/01/2021 20:08

Of course I would continue working until the next political machination, when I would back slowly away ...to Courchevel

Yukay · 02/01/2021 20:08

Hell no, we'd both jack work in straight away. Travelling, plenty of time for hobbies, learning a language would be my new life!

MrsEfr0n · 02/01/2021 20:16

I would leave my current job and train as an ophthalmologist. The training is 14 years and I have too many financial commitments now, wish I had known earlier what I wanted to do. I would definitely have some ‘nice’ holidays but would still want to work.

Covidpleasegoaway · 02/01/2021 20:40

No. I would do some volunteering, and concentrate on other ventures. I would probably write a novel.

Why would I work? Firstly, work causes me a lot of anxiety and stress. Second, work takes up way too much of my life (I can't leave work at the door). Third, I wouldn't need the money so the job should be filled by someone who actually needs it.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 02/01/2021 20:47

Hell No

Gwenhwyfar · 02/01/2021 20:49

No. Would start my own projects, hire other people and dip in and out when I wanted to.

SelfIcellation · 02/01/2021 20:53

No.

I always wanted to get my degree, do voluntary work and travel.
