Handhold DH heading to ICU covid

Wardrobes123 · 02/01/2021 08:57

DH went to hospital yesterday for breathing issues. We’ve been unwell for a few days and we’re already awaiting covid tests.

Just been told he’s taken a turn and is heading to ICU. He is ECV and we’ve been so careful, we’ve not been out except to the supermarket, and we’ve avoided seeing anyone.

I’m just so worried and I know the next few days will be critical

@Wardrobes123 I hope you hear good news in the morning... you and your family are in your prayers along with all the other families going through his special Hell.
I hope you start to feel better yourself soonFlowers🌻💐🌹🌺

If he has the dexamethasone be prepared for him to be a bit arsey, try to remember 'what happens in ICU, stays in ICU' and try not to take it personally Smile

Ah with a centre so close that sounds like a great option. I think having all the kit in the house isn't for everybody either, especially when you've got kids around too.

I’m sorry to hear this OP, you sound like the most amazing wife and mother, and he is in good hands with professionals who know so much more than they did 6 months ago.

Just in reference to your post at 12:39, of course he matters Flowers and I’m so sorry you’ve been made to feel this way.

Wardrobes123 · 02/01/2021 23:40

@frumpety - what happens with dexamethadrome? And how well does it work? He’s been ventilated before and it was very worrying last time (pneumonia). But the oddest thing was waking up - he genuinely believed he’d been kidnapped. Definitely what happens in ICU stays on ICU!

@Fandaddydoozie - I’m so sorry you went through that. I’ve been there before too - and told to prepare for him to die. It’s made me terrified it will happen this time. It’s almost worse because I can’t visit and see how he’s getting on. Last time I was at his bedside so I was able to be close to him. I’m so pleased your husband has fully recovered and home with you. It’s a scary old ride isn’t it? But yes ICU nurses are literally angels on earth.

@spidermomma that’s great news about your friend. I love hearing that people recovered and went home. At the moment I’m just seeing horror stories (everywhere) about people dying with covid and all with underlying conditions. Makes me incredibly anxious.

@Trumplosttheelection - haha yes - we had fluid bags for our old machine and it wasn’t perfect if I’m honest. DH used to do most of it but would get tired and I’d find needles all over the room. Worried me silly.

DH did text earlier to say that he’s still on Cpap. Filtration was going through and that he was going to try and hang on for as long as possible on CPAP as they really don’t want to ventilate him. I know he gets tired though and am worried that he won’t sleep so will ask to be ventilated.

If he’s still on CPAP in the morning and coping that will be a very good start 🤞🤞

@LizzieVereker - your post made me cry big fat tears. He is brilliant. Crabby but brilliant. He makes me laugh and We’ve got so many plans. People tell themselves covid only kills the ill/those with underlying health conditions. As if they don’t matter. But he wasn’t about to die. And he absolutely matters to us. Thank you

And thank you to everyone who has taken time to post on this thread. Sorry I haven’t tagged you all but I am reading them all Flowers

Groovinpeanut · 03/01/2021 00:44

I'm in the same situation OP, I've never felt so helpless or useless in my life. My DH is diabetic and they can't get him stabalised. He's in ICU they've now said he's got Covid and also blood clots on his lungs. Two of our youngest have tested positive too tonight. I just don't know which way to turn. It's heartbreaking ☹️

SoupnSalads · 03/01/2021 00:50

Sending positive thoughts. Does he take immunosuppressants for his kidney transplant? There was some evidence that immunosuppressants can lessen the chances of a cytokine storm. I don't know the study. Sending positive wishes Flowers

Omeara · 03/01/2021 01:03

Hope your DH is stabilised and improving soon Groovinpeanut. Can’t imagine how stressful things are for you at the moment.

Still thinking of you too OP.

Just sending you warm and caring thoughts, OP.

Distract yourself as much as possible. It's one time where you want to be spending as little time as possible thinking - so watch films or play computer games or whatever it is that takes your mind away. Eat little and often as low blood sugar can make you feel more anxious.

He sounds like a fighter and a good man and I hope and pray he'll be back with you soon.
