Handhold DH heading to ICU covid

DH went to hospital yesterday for breathing issues. We’ve been unwell for a few days and we’re already awaiting covid tests.

Just been told he’s taken a turn and is heading to ICU. He is ECV and we’ve been so careful, we’ve not been out except to the supermarket, and we’ve avoided seeing anyone.

I’m just so worried and I know the next few days will be critical

Just read this whole thread. I'm so sorry you're going through this, and send you all of the strength I can. I know it seems ridiculous to mention but can you split your time into short blocks to keep yourself busy perhaps? Small, easy to manage tasks to help distract you? Even if it's writing a list of books you want to read, or challenging yourself to read a chapter of a book or something - not sure if that helps at all. Really hoping for good news for you soon.

Ah I see, yes that does make it a bit more difficult but a shame none-the-less. Some of my patients get similar results lying on their sides, though.

It sounds like intubation might be the best thing. It might be kinder to put more tubes in once sedated, rather than before.

CPAP doesn't mean life just as intubation doesn't mean death. It's just an indication of severity of disease. On the continuum, there's not so much difference between barely coping on Maximum CPAP and intubation, if that makes any sense at all?

It is better to intubate early, in a planned and prepared way, than in an emergency when it's almost too late. Every time.

If it's any use at all, I was ventilated for nearly two weeks following the birth of ds2 and it very much gave my body time to heal and I've made a full recovery. I'm aware it's a totally different situation but sometimes ventilation is a good thing.

Thinking of you, I know something of the awfulness that you are facing and it's horrendous. Such a roller coaster, sending love and gentle hugs.
Try to drink plenty and eat, I found yoghurt easier to eat out of necessity xx
