Handhold DH heading to ICU covid

DH went to hospital yesterday for breathing issues. We’ve been unwell for a few days and we’re already awaiting covid tests.

Just been told he’s taken a turn and is heading to ICU. He is ECV and we’ve been so careful, we’ve not been out except to the supermarket, and we’ve avoided seeing anyone.

I’m just so worried and I know the next few days will be critical

It’s been a very tough day. I got a call and I was able to see him for five minutes. He hasn’t yet been ventilated he’s still currently on CPAP. He desaturates very quickly if he’s not on CPAP or if he’s in a poor position. I’ve spoken to him about proning and he’s going to try it if he stays stable.

The doctors have called me twice - both times to say he’s very ill and he could be vented at any point over the next few day’s. The longer he stays on CPAP with good numbers the better, but if he continues to deteriorate they’re not messing about - he’s straight on the ventilator.

It’s been awful. I didn’t sleep last night for fear of that phone call. But there’s nothing I can do - it’s just a waiting game. The kids have been brilliant (spending far too much time on devices).

I don’t know what will happen. ICU is really a head fuck if I’m honest. But the staff are brilliant and I know they’re trying their best.

We just have to wait

Thank you for taking the time to update. He's clearly very strong. I'm glad you saw him even under such bad circumstances.
