Handhold DH heading to ICU covid

DH went to hospital yesterday for breathing issues. We’ve been unwell for a few days and we’re already awaiting covid tests.

Just been told he’s taken a turn and is heading to ICU. He is ECV and we’ve been so careful, we’ve not been out except to the supermarket, and we’ve avoided seeing anyone.

I’m just so worried and I know the next few days will be critical

The good thing is the medics have had 10 months to get to grips with best treatment plans, so your dh is going to get a much better deal than 10 months ago when this was a new virus that they weren’t so clues up on

It’s scary but he’s in very good hands and the ratio of nurses will be better on the ward he’s going to

Best wishes

Virtual hugs OP.
Anything can happen yet, don't give up hope. Our patients are doing so much better this time! They do seem to get sort of 'stuck,' for a while, not getting better or worse for days on end.
Ventilation is not the dreadful worry it was originally. We are used to filtering patients with Covid, the clotting thing took us by surprise initially but now we are monitoring and actively treating.

Are there any trials your DH can join, as PP asked?
Would he be a candidate for ECMO, should it be required?

You can request video calls you know, the nurses will be able to facilitate this. Usually via your DH's phone but equally there may be iPads on ICU for that purpose.
