What did she mean?! I think I misunderstood!

Yesterday I had a smear test. There was some difficulty for the nurse locating my cervix, so as she was rummaging, she was making conversation - presumably to put me at ease.

She asked how many dc I had, and I told her I had 4. She said "4? You look good for 4". Given what she was doing, and where she was looking at the time she made her comment, I assumed she meant all looked well in the pelvic floor/cervix region. So I launched into a detailed description of my pelvic floor exercise regime. She didn't really say much after I'd finished, by which time she'd collected the sample.

It sort of hit me as I was driving home that she hadn't in fact been complimenting me on my nether regions, but had been making general polite conversation! I feel silly now! Would anyone else have made the same assumption?

I wouldn't have, but I bet you made her day Smile

Whilst getting my coil fitted the lovely nurse told me I had a long vagina, which is why she was struggling. I didn't know whether to apologise for it or be proud of it. So maybe she was indeed complimenting you on your nether regions!

Menaray · 01/01/2021 18:38

Oh :(. You mean I did misunderstand? Blush

Moltenpink · 01/01/2021 18:39

Ha ha. Given where she was, she could have meant either 🤷‍♀️

jakeyboy1 · 01/01/2021 18:40

Haha love it! Also would be interested to know the regime as nothing works for me I've tried Holistic Core Restore, One Fit Mama, the lot!!

Menaray · 01/01/2021 18:40

@GCITC yes! You must be right. And I would like to congratulate you on your long vagina :)

Are you a wolf? 🤔

I think I would have taken it the same way you did OP, which was quite probably wrong! 😂😂

OTannenbaum · 01/01/2021 18:43

😂 this is so funny! You probably did make her day! Don’t feel bad though, she probably feels bad for saying such a thing in the middle of taking a smear, I understand how you might have taken it that way but yeah I think she probably meant in general rather than your nether regions specifically! A bit of light relief for that nurse during the pandemic though which I’m sure was much welcomed haha.

Hmm
Paddingtonthebear · 01/01/2021 18:46

😂

I had to have my ears syringed once and the nurse went and got another nurse to come in to see my “child like ear canals” Confused

titchy · 01/01/2021 18:48

I was having a coil fitted when the nurse complimented me on my neat and tidy cervix. Thank you I said,
a bit Hmm. She then told me they see all sorts of tatty horrors.... I was Shock

VaggieMight · 01/01/2021 18:50

A nurse doing a smear once commented that my vagina will be different after I have children. I've never really understood what she meant, something to do with something dropping I think.

Another nurse had to call in a (female) GP as she was struggling to do my smear and the GP commented how lucky I was to have nice hair and long legs.

I also had an awkward conversation with a nurse doing my smear about her recognising me from somewhere.

I'd really prefer zero small talk during smears.

You have to be careful what you say in some professions. I used to be a bra fitter and while in a changing room, where I fitted the customers and they sometimes were topless, I commented on the customer's 'lovely set'. I meant the set of underwear but by my clients reaction I think she might have thought I was referring to her breasts Blush

@jakeyboy1 After 4 dc things were not great so I got a bit paranoid about doing pelvic floor exercises. I have a kegel 8 machine that I try to use every night. And through the day, whenever I think of it, I do those exercises where you clench your muscles and imagine they're a lift rising slowly. And once a day (but only once because I heard that doing it more often isn't a good idea), I clench mid wee.

Have no idea - but this thread was the laugh I've needed all day GrinGrin

Awww. Although that reminds me of one smear test I had and the Norse muttered, “Oh yea, I remember from last time, I need an extra-long speculum” (and I had this vision of her standing in the corridor with a snooker cue 🤣)

tigger1001 · 01/01/2021 18:56

My doctor was also my next door neighbour and when he was in the middle of my smear he told me my garden was lovely 😂

  • Nurse (not a Viking warrior 🤣)
poopyface · 01/01/2021 19:00

I remember being told things were 'nice and pink' during a smear - made me want to vomit a bit.

This made me laugh - have a vision of a Viking with a horned helmet bending over you :)

Hahahahaha that’s like the Dame Edna joke when she says her gynaecologist was down there and said she was still capable of breast feeding 😆🤣

CrazyToast · 01/01/2021 19:28

I was having a coil fitted and the male doctor mocked the colour of my pubic hair! I was young and traumatised by how painful it was so said nothing. These days I'd eviscerate him.

CandyLeBonBon · 01/01/2021 19:36

Seems like there's a lot of people on this thread who should be complaining to PALS

Sparrowfeeder · 01/01/2021 19:53

I got told I “had a textbook cervix” during my smear, I was rather pleased about that.
