What did she mean?! I think I misunderstood!

Yesterday I had a smear test. There was some difficulty for the nurse locating my cervix, so as she was rummaging, she was making conversation - presumably to put me at ease.

She asked how many dc I had, and I told her I had 4. She said "4? You look good for 4". Given what she was doing, and where she was looking at the time she made her comment, I assumed she meant all looked well in the pelvic floor/cervix region. So I launched into a detailed description of my pelvic floor exercise regime. She didn't really say much after I'd finished, by which time she'd collected the sample.

It sort of hit me as I was driving home that she hadn't in fact been complimenting me on my nether regions, but had been making general polite conversation! I feel silly now! Would anyone else have made the same assumption?

Oh Christ I had that at my smear last week.

I've had 3.

By fucking section!

CabSauv52 · 01/01/2021 20:21

Good on you for going for a smear test at all OP, as a lot of people I know are too scared to attend due to Covid. If it makes you feel any better, I was once the last appointment, probably at the end of a long day for the practice nurse, and when she was rummaging about she said she said 'I can't find it!' All I could say was 'This has never happened before'...Blush I have since heard that the cervix can move position at various times of the month and that mine was 'set back' but at the time it was a bit awkward Grin

@CandyLeBonBon

Seems like there's a lot of people on this thread who should be complaining to PALS

@poopyface I too have had a nurse tell me I had a lovely pink cervix Grin

FlowFlow7722 · 01/01/2021 20:42

I had my last smear on my birthday, I had the day off so thought why not, dr and nurse there and asked what else I had planned for my birthday, I replied oh nothing else this is the highlight of my day!!!

That’s just wrong isn’t it Grin I was joking, but it’s not the time is it Smile

hiccupgate · 01/01/2021 20:49

I once jumped in agony during my smear and the nurse cheerily said "oops your cervix just appeared from around the corner". How the fuck does a cervix just appear?? Do I have a u bend for a vagina??

elldog6 · 01/01/2021 21:27

In my first smear test she struggled then had to get the child speculum and said "oh you're very tight down there".

I didn't know how to respond so said "thank you" Blush

SuperheroBirds · 01/01/2021 21:32

Last time I had a smear the nurse complimented me for managing to relax and not being tense. I immediately started worrying that she though I was too relaxed and that she might think I was enjoying it!

Twickerhun · 01/01/2021 21:37

My cervix is a mess. The nurse once showed me a picture of what a cervix should look like, and what a damaged one looks like and then said mine was like the damaged one but much worse. That was marvellous. To all of you with pretty cervix’s I send my congratulations.

rattlemehearties · 01/01/2021 21:41

She absolutely must have meant your face! You look young/fresh for 4 kids?! But to be fair she made it awkward with that phrasing anyway.

Mummy2one2016 · 01/01/2021 21:42

At my last smear the nurse doing it commented I obviously hadn't given birth naturally 😒 at the time I just said no I had a section and brushed it off. But it still bugs me to this day.

lissie123 · 01/01/2021 21:48

Are you a wolf? Actually I think it was a full moon when I posted that... Grin

TomHardysXmasSprouts · 01/01/2021 21:51

About ten years ago the nurse said I had the most “interesting” cervix she had ever seen. She was due to retire the following week!

Turned out that I do indeed have a very interesting cervix. Everyone who had looked at it since had said exactly the same. Apparently it looks a bit like Swiss cheese after a rather aggressive medical procedure 30 years ago to remove pre-cancerous cells.

I am asked at least once a year if I would allow a student to have a poke around down there. I have the most famous vag in my village 🤣🤣🤣

thosetalesofunexpected · 01/01/2021 21:53

@CrazyToast
Sorry you had such a shit male doctor,doing your smear test,
Thankfully most Doctors male or female are a lot better than that.FlowersBrewCake

MsF1t · 01/01/2021 21:54

@GCITC

Whilst getting my coil fitted the lovely nurse told me I had a long vagina, which is why she was struggling. I didn't know whether to apologise for it or be proud of it. So maybe she was indeed complimenting you on your nether regions!
Ah, I have had the same. In fact, my poor Mum got her smear done by one of the GPs in their village, who proceeded to say that he hoped my father was sufficiently well endowed to 'get the job done'. Unsurprisingly, she hasn't been back to him since (both she and my Dad were well into their 70s at this point).
purpleme12 · 01/01/2021 21:56

@Paddingtonthebear

😂

I had to have my ears syringed once and the nurse went and got another nurse to come in to see my “child like ear canals” Confused

Ah I'm sorry but this made me laugh 😂

It reminds me of the time I called the out of hours doctor and he started off by saying and I quote 'why do you sound like a child?'
I was like 'erm I don't think anyone can help their voice!'

KatyN · 01/01/2021 22:01

I was asked mid smear if I had children.. I wondered if it was the speed I whipped my kacks off, that I was contemplating a nap on the table or that I had lego up my fanny.

Bit gutted it might have been the state of my cervix or small talk.

sockywock · 01/01/2021 22:03

I've actually had a similar thing, but she genuinely complimented my pelvic floor specifically (pre baby DS Grin), so actually you may not have misunderstood as clearly they can tell rather a lot?!

thosetalesofunexpected · 01/01/2021 22:03

@tigger1001
😂😂😂 l.o.l
Classic !!!

Angelik · 01/01/2021 22:07

Well this sent me off on a Google images journey of healthy vs unhealthy cervix. Am now wondering what mine looks like. Can't imagine it's hood after pre cancerous treatment and 2 vaginally births. Eewwww

YakkityYakYakYak · 01/01/2021 22:07

Haha, this thread is hilarious, exactly what I needed tonight 😂

The last two smears I’ve had I’ve been told my cervix is beautiful. I was very proud, and phoned DH up straight afterwards to tell him how lucky he is to have a wife with a superior cervix.

Have had DD since the last one though Confused

YakkityYakYakYak · 01/01/2021 22:15

You have to be careful what you say in some professions. I used to be a bra fitter and while in a changing room, where I fitted the customers and they sometimes were topless, I commented on the customer's 'lovely set'. I meant the set of underwear but by my clients reaction I think she might have thought I was referring to her breasts blush

Fuckitsstillraining · 01/01/2021 22:17

My cousin got an std from her shitty ex, she was only 19 or 20 at the time and while being treated and examined the doctor asked if she was active, cousin replied that she took a long walk every day, poor doctor had to explain she meant sexually active!! Have to say when she told me years later she thought it was hilarious and hoped her innocence back then had amused the doctor.
