Emergency meeting today agreed it. All boroughs left off now included.

Most staff will be in to supervise key workers children and plan. There will be lots of emergency planning to be done now. Lesson plans worked on over Christmas in the bin.
Honestly l feel they are messing school staff and parents around too much now.
Take advise Gavin. Listen to the experts, listen to the Head Teachers and not just the Academy Heads that you are pally with.
Best of luck everyone.

@Zlistceleb

It's not all schools, it's all primary schools. Maybe ask HQ to amend.
No secondary schools* are fully open next week. So no need for an amendment
 • secondary schools are open for critical worker and vulnerable children; this is also the case for London primary schools
SimonJT · 01/01/2021 18:41

I wonder if other councils in tier 4 with high levels will now follow suit.

Hmm, is northern tier 4 different to southern tier 4?

Paddingtonthebear · 01/01/2021 18:42

Southern doesn’t just mean London!

perhapstomorrow · 01/01/2021 18:43

This is just ridiculous. I'm in a London borough that borders surrey. The borough I live in has closed its primary schools. Now some other boroughs are closing schools but the borough my ds goes to has even higher rates. It doesn't make sense. The government should just close either all primary schools or all primary schools in tier 4. They really dont know what they are doing.

weddingplanning15 · 01/01/2021 18:44

They are reporting on Granada now

DobbyTheHouseElk · 01/01/2021 18:44

IMO all schools in tier 4 need to close. Feel sick at the thought of DC going into school on Monday.

RMRM · 01/01/2021 18:44

This government are just useless. This was absolute ly, stunningly obvious. I do not trust the DfE to keep my children and their school safe.

RMRM · 01/01/2021 18:45

Don't send them if you aren't happy.

ballsdeep · 01/01/2021 18:47

@LumpySpacedPrincess

...bit I'm in a tier 4 area with a high infection rate and must return on Monday, nice.
Me too. But as long as London is ok eh?! Honestly it gets on my nerves so much. In South Wales and other parts of England they have been crippled by covid , but as soon as London starts getting bad, it's time to act. Shit show of a government
User158340 · 01/01/2021 18:48

They delay these decisions as long as they can. 15,000 cases in London today.

Fizzydrinks123 · 01/01/2021 18:48

South Wales make their own decisions on schools.

clareykb · 01/01/2021 18:49

To be fair I think London and possibly are in A different position to other t4 areas. We are in T4, our rates are a fifth of many places in the SE and much lower than they were 6 weeks ago. I'd be gutted if my kids schools shut and I work in education.

SimonJT · 01/01/2021 18:49

@ballsdeep Education is devolved.

Unsure33 · 01/01/2021 18:50

It is on bbc . Seems pushed because of threat of legal action from councils .

SuePreem · 01/01/2021 18:51

They're reporting that it only happened because the London local authorities threatened to sue the govt.

I expect there'll be another u-turn soon for the rest of the tier 4 primaries - it makes no sense at all to keep secondary pupils off but to send primary pupils in.

clareykb · 01/01/2021 18:51

Should say and other South Eastern areas .Oh and we are North East

DoYouRememberTheInnMiranda · 01/01/2021 18:51

We can't easily not send them if the schools are open though because employers won't understand

ballsdeep · 01/01/2021 18:52

@Fizzydrinks123

South Wales make their own decisions on schools.
I know.
lazylump72 · 01/01/2021 18:52

on sky news now

GameSetMatch · 01/01/2021 18:53

I’m so sick of this North/ South division, are our teachers not worth as much! It’s ridiculous and blatantly obvious.

ballsdeep · 01/01/2021 18:54
@ballsdeep Education is devolved.
I know, I'm Welsh. I'm just expressing how frustrating it is when the north of England have had huge cases and nothing done. Same as Wales, Kirsty Williams needs to get her head from her arse and sort something quickly. In my area, cases have started dropping the last week.......... And they shut schools a week early.

CreamFacedLoon · 01/01/2021 18:54

Aah so it’s not safe for London Tier 4 primary children to go to school, but it’s fine for the rest of the Tier 4 children around the country to go in...

They need to either drop the other areas back to Tier 3 or raise London to Tier 5.

itsgettingweird · 01/01/2021 18:54

I'm further south than London. In fact any further south and you'd drown! We are open.

It's not a north / south thing.
