Tier 3 home but going on a tier 2 day out?

Absolutely aware that everyone has had a shitty year, and that we're all suffering and having to make sacrifices.
However, DH and I have had a particularly shitty year, and Xmas, and a friend has offered to look after our son tomorrow if we want to spend a bit of time together. I would really like to travel to our nearest town, which happens to be tier 2 as opposed to the tier 3 we live in. We could have a spot of lunch somewhere and a walk around. I know this is technically not OK but it would be such a treat.

Should we go for it, or will you all rip me a new one for suggesting it?!

I don't think any of those reasons fall under acceptable travel.

UserEleventyNine · 27/12/2020 21:55

I know this is technically not OK but it would be such a treat.

I'm in Tier 4. I'd like a treat too. Can I come to your Tier 3 area for a spot of lunch and a walk around?

And if it's OK for you and me to do it, then is it OK for ten or a hundred or a thousand other people to do it? I expect they'd like a treat too.

MotherForker · 27/12/2020 21:58

It's perfectly legal, we will be doing the same tomorrow. You can't go inside cafe or pubs, but you can be outside perfectly.

However everyone will tell you you're morally corrupt on MN.

Scotstar85 · 27/12/2020 21:58

OK, that told me. I knew the answer really, I'm just so fucking fed up!! Sad

MotherForker · 27/12/2020 21:58

Why wouldn't you? It's not against the law.

Tyranttoddler · 27/12/2020 22:00

Just do it. Its not against the law. Don't post about it or tell people because it pisses everyone off. We would all like to go for a spot of lunch.

unicornparty · 27/12/2020 22:07

I thought you take your home tier with you wherever you go which means you can't eat out wherever you are.

Santaisreel · 27/12/2020 22:09

I know this is technically not OK but it would be such a treat.

Have a think OP, have a wee think.

1stMrsFatherChristmas · 27/12/2020 22:11

Could you have a different treat to take advantage of the baby sitting? Go for a walk, take a picnic? Stay home and cook something lovely (eat uninterrupted)? Go to bed in the middle of the day (Grin)?

Lifeispassingby · 27/12/2020 22:13

You have to follow your home tier rules whenever in a different tier. So tier 3 rules even if in tier 2, so probably not worth it. And after all the rules are there to prevent the spread of covid so you should probably follow them tbh

Yorkshirehillbilly · 27/12/2020 22:42

Police are going into pubs and restaurants handing out fines in our Tier 2 area if you cant produce evidence you live locally to stop this.

JacobReesMogadishu · 27/12/2020 22:43

You can have a walk round the town but can’t eat in. You could get a take out.

Sewrainbow · 27/12/2020 22:48

Thing is these rules are daft when looked at logically my nearest town is tier 2 but we're tier 3 as it's done by postcode or whatever. I went shopping today in the big supermarket, completely forgot about the tiers anyway but to go to one in tier 3 like us I would have been twice as long.

Wakeupin2022 · 27/12/2020 22:49

I think its better for all of us to stay local at the moment no matter what your tier.

We've all had a shitty year but we all need to play our part to try and make things better surely?

Covidasaurus · 27/12/2020 22:52

You aren’t supposed to leave your town for leisure reasons. That’s the definition of “local area”.

CakeQueen87 · 27/12/2020 22:52

Under which rules is getting your friend to babysit allowed? I think your allowed to form a childcare bubble for formal childcare that allows you to work but not outside of these purposes.

Go for it. Unless you get rumbled for having "a tier 2 accent"!!!
PhilCornwall1 · 27/12/2020 22:57

Go for it. Unless you get rumbled for having "a tier 2 accent"!!!

That should be Tier 3 accent!!

CommunistLegoBloc · 27/12/2020 22:58

Of course you shouldn't. Bet people are though. I think the morality effect or whatever it's called, the thing whereby you tell yourself you've a) been good and b) had a bad time which equals c) I can 'treat' myself even if it's immoral, is very strong at the moment. People have been cooped up and compliant, they want their reward.

So I get it, but don't do it.

pusscatsinblankets · 27/12/2020 22:59

Well yes OP you have been told what you already knew. Don't do it.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 27/12/2020 22:59

No no no. Do something but stay in your area. Please. Hospitals are going into meltdown right now.

AldiAisleofCrap · 27/12/2020 23:01

Yeah having Covid-19 is such a treat too @Scotstar85

MotherForker · 27/12/2020 23:01

@Yorkshirehillbilly there is no legal obligation to give your name or address to the police. People are daft if they are. And if its North Yorkshire police they well overstepping the mark with their antics.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 27/12/2020 23:02

And we are all fed up. And we have all had difficult years.

But I don’t want to contribute to the spread of Covid so I continue to follow the rules in the hope i will help get it solved sooner.

Please be part of the solution not part of the problem.
