Tier 3 home but going on a tier 2 day out?

Scotstar85 · 27/12/2020 21:46

Absolutely aware that everyone has had a shitty year, and that we're all suffering and having to make sacrifices.
However, DH and I have had a particularly shitty year, and Xmas, and a friend has offered to look after our son tomorrow if we want to spend a bit of time together. I would really like to travel to our nearest town, which happens to be tier 2 as opposed to the tier 3 we live in. We could have a spot of lunch somewhere and a walk around. I know this is technically not OK but it would be such a treat.

Should we go for it, or will you all rip me a new one for suggesting it?!

OP posts:

Some of DD's friends live in a tier 2 area and are having their IDs checked when going in to pubs and restaurants. I'd just stay in your tier 3 area and go for a nice walk and a cuppa.

Benjispruce2 · 27/12/2020 23:06

Stay local.

LindaEllen · 27/12/2020 23:07

Sorry but there are millions of people across the world who've had a shitty year (I know it's not a competition, but lots of them will have had a worse time than you). Imagine how many people could think they've got a reasonable excuse, and what would happen if they just did what they think they 'deserved' to do.

I've cried so much over the past few days and I feel so low. A nice lunch out would be 'such a treat' for me too. But I'm not doing it.

FabbyMagic · 27/12/2020 23:08

You can do something nice in your area. You might think “oh it won’t make a difference because it’s just us two”...what if everyone thought like that? Well, a lot do and that’s a big part of why we’re still in this mess, people are ultimately selfish and think about their own needs first. Which may be human nature but it’s shit for everyone who follows the rules and then suffers for it, or all those ill in hospital or dying from this. Is your nice day out worth those lives sacrificing? We’re all fed up, and bored, but do people not get the logic that the more people keep having “treats” and breaking the guidelines the longer this will continue?

Notnownotneverever · 27/12/2020 23:08

With the infection rates rising so rapidly, no it is not OK in any way. You are going to have to make so in the same way everyone else is.

AlternativePerspective · 27/12/2020 23:09

And this is how tier2 areas turn into tier3 ones, when people who think they are entitled to a treat do what the hell they want without any thought to the consequences.

TBH I imagine it’s irrelevant anyway. All the tiers are being reviewed on Wednesday and I suspect we will be in full lockdown then.

Mrbob · 27/12/2020 23:10

@Sewrainbow

Thing is these rules are daft when looked at logically my nearest town is tier 2 but we're tier 3 as it's done by postcode or whatever. I went shopping today in the big supermarket, completely forgot about the tiers anyway but to go to one in tier 3 like us I would have been twice as long.
Oh FFS. Yes it’s inconvenient. But the whole fucking point is to reduce mixing. Jesus. So glad I am not in the UK
Mischance · 27/12/2020 23:16

Covid is not such a treat though.

The advice to behave as though you are a symptomless spreader seems wise to me.

Chloemol · 27/12/2020 23:16

Guidance is clear, you can’t travel out of T3 for a jolly. You can’t you go out somewhere within T3, near to home?

Travel
Where possible, you should stay local and avoid travelling outside your local area, meaning your village or town, or part of a city. People should continue to travel for reasons such as work, education, medical attention or if they have caring responsibilities.

You can still travel to venues that are open, or for reasons such as work or education, but you should reduce the number of journeys you make wherever possible.

You should still avoid travelling outside your tier 3 area other than for the reasons such as those above.

There seems to be lots on here who don’t read the rules as they are saying you can

Lots have had shit years, let’s just stay in our areas hey, then we can all get some normalcy back sooner

newusername2009 · 27/12/2020 23:19

Go for it! Enjoy your day out

laidbacklife · 27/12/2020 23:19

Realistically the current Tier 2s will be moving into Tier 3 or 4 pretty soon anyway. We all know that we’re going back into lockdown after New Year. So go for it. Whether you do or don’t will have absolutely zero impact - Boris has already decided what’s happening next.

Mischance · 27/12/2020 23:21

It is those people who know very well what the rules are but assume that they do not apply to them who are fuelling the spread and making this agony continue longer than is necessary.

I don't know about you OP, but I am keen to see this pandemic come to an end; I would be grateful if you would play your part in making this happen by sticking to the rules.

gurglebelly · 27/12/2020 23:21

@Scotstar85

OK, that told me. I knew the answer really, I'm just so fucking fed up!! Sad
What makes you so special? Do you not think everyone is pissed off and fed up?

Yes, arguments like that are the quickest way to get the whole country back into full lockdown, aren't they?
converseandjeans · 27/12/2020 23:33

I don't think you are allowed but I don't think you would get found out. Not sure you're allowed another adult in house though to babysit?

Wakeupin2022 · 27/12/2020 23:33

Well not really is they have Covid & spread it, but hey who gives a fuck about others.....

Wakeupin2022 · 27/12/2020 23:34

@newusername2009

Out of interest- what tier are you in?
LindaEllen · 27/12/2020 23:35

Agree 100%.

Plus, 1 covid free person might not make an impact, but if everyone had that attitude, there would be thousands of people with covid spreading it without even knowing.

The whole fucking point, OP, is that nobody knows who exactly has it.

Stay. At. Home.

VanGoghsDog · 27/12/2020 23:36

You are if they are your childcare bubble, but this is generally so people can go to work, not so they can go out for a lark.
AKissAndASmile · 27/12/2020 23:37

Please just stay in your area. The vaccine is here and if people just stopped spreading we'd get out of this fix a lot sooner.

Stompythedinosaur · 28/12/2020 00:08

Of course you shouldn't do that. Don't be stupid. It would be selfish.

poppingpotatoes · 28/12/2020 00:13

We'd all like things that would have been a treat or even just important. I'd like to have been able to go to a funeral of a close friend but couldn't so I can't see any reason why you should be able to go for lunch.

MrsTravers · 28/12/2020 00:15

I think you should stay in your tier, sorry OP. Hope you are able to find something nice to do. On a plus side, the guidance re. childcare bubbles doesn't say that they are just for work so it looks as if you can pop out, just not to tier 2.

Hope things improve for you soon.

AKissAndASmile · 28/12/2020 02:39

FFS we know the virus spreads when we mix. Just stop mixing. You don't need to wonder if it's right or not if you just stay within your household! You don't need to look to Boris for advice!

DPotter · 28/12/2020 02:57

In the lead up to Christmas we were Tier 2 next door to a tier 3 - a local pub closed as they were inundated with bookings from the Tier 3 area. We're now all Tier 4

Please don't visit a Tier 2 area from your Tier 3 area.
