My lovely friend had her beautiful baby boy last night. They've not put anything on social media yet so I thought I'd ask here! I want to get her a few little bits that I can leave on the doorstep. I made her a hamper a month back but I'd like to get some little bits for baby now we know he's a boy.

So, what did somebody buy for your baby that you absolutely loved?
And also, what would have loved to/did you receive that was useful/thoughtful/unexpected but loved?

I'm so excited for them and also so disappointed that I can't offer more support thanks to bloody Covid! Not that I'd push it on them anyway of course! But I just want her to know I'm here and thinking of her if she needs anything

I feel like babies get tons of stuff but mum gets forgotten - how about a care pack for mum for when she’s overwhelmed and exhausted. Things like chocolate and a nice hand cream, dry shampoo as she might not get many showers in now that baby is here especially during the newborn stage x

Someone will come along to advise on what to get baby x

I agree - you may have already got some stuff for your friend, but honestly it's so overwhelming having your first baby, and it's really special to get gifts that are just for you.

You sound like a lovely friend!

Ready meals, snacks, muslins. That's what I used/ate the most in the first few weeks.

Nice wine, lots of choc/biscuits, bath stuff, maybe a nice candle or something? Baby things like a blanket or a babygrow in either newborn/up to 1m size or 3-6+ (seem to get an abundance of 0-3). Muslins, bibs, teddys/toys, baby bath stuff.

I'll go against the grain and say that I really didn't want anything for me when I had my children. I wouldn't have wanted a home cooked meal. I was however grateful for all of the gifts that I received which were mostly for the babies.

Definitely agree that mum gets forgotten about. I made sure her hamper was mainly aimed at her with a blanket I made for baby and a few other little bits. I was going to make some meals but I think her mum is staying with her so I'd hate to step on toes that way. I think I went a bit overboard with the hamper and have given my self few options left!
I'm thinking a big bunch of flowers (because you just have to, don't you?!), chocolates. Is there anywhere to buy cooling pads? I feel like they would help!
Maybe some a little set for baby, cute baby grow, bibs etc. I also said I'd buy one of those sleep bags but he's a bit little for it yet so I'm going to hold off

Don't think the baby's penis need guide you. How about some handcream, Cook vouchers, luxury versions of hot drinks you know the mother likes - coffee beans, tea bags, hot chocolate etc, slipper socks for warm feet when up in the night?

If you're thinking baby then either something for later like Tomy eggs. If you're desperate to buy for now then some of those black and white baby books? They seem to keep tiny ones fixated and they're good for when they're a bit bigger and can interacted with the leaves. They also do them as muslin patterns, which could be doubly useful!

No not at all. But my friend is traditional and it's first baby so I'd like to keep that in mind. Love the idea of patterned muslins!

I bought a friend a Neal's Yard new mum pack and she said it was lovely.
A friend also brought me round some home cooked meals after my first child was born which I thought was very thoughtful.

Spoil your friend Grin

Some comfy and stylish lounge wear, a Chillys Water bottle, lavender oil and tea tree oil for her bath, some really good flapjacks, an oversized scarf to keep her warm during night feeds.

You can treat her little boy later on, but for now, treat your friend Flowers
