We were up to 999 posts so thought we needed a new thread!

Checking in so I don't lose you all.

DominaShantotto · 27/12/2020 15:07

Checking in for my sanity maintenance.

Just had another thought about the way the data is presented.
We are constantly told about hospital admissions, but surely the number we should be looking at is how many people are currently in hospital.
After all its scary to say 1500 people admitted with covid but less so if say 2000 were discharged. After all, less patients, less pressure on the NHS right?

Although given the amount getting sick in hospital I'm not sure that would actually work

Wow, we are filling the threads up quick. We had a lovely granny killing Christmas Day, all 8 of us in my DSis house for the afternoon, no hugging, but it was just lovely.
Hope everyone had as lovely a Christmas as they wanted/needed.
My DSis and I have agreed that once our DP’s have had their vaccine, we are going back to old normal. DP’s are so looking forward to it.
And to the Sir Terry Pratchett fans,I am still sad because I normally received his newest book for Christmas. It was always my little enjoyment between Christmas and New Year.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 27/12/2020 15:20

It's also refreshing to see doom mongering being called out 'over there'

Thanks Livin. Almost had cheese in my coffee! Not intentionally, the bloody cream had gone off. Bleugh!

Do you think there will be a change in reporting at some point when a positive spin is put on the numbers rather than the current negativity? There must be huge numbers of people who are going to take a lot of persuading that it’s safe to go out again.

Plussizejumpsuit · 27/12/2020 15:26

I've seen these threads but know idea what the deal is. Anyone care to explain please?

This worries me when I see posts from people that are healthy but have no idea how to risk assess and seem to think that covid is the only thing to worry about and is an automatic death sentence to them and those around them. How do you change that mindset when it's now ingrained with some people?

LivinLaVidaLoki · 27/12/2020 15:37

@plussizejumpsuit

Its just a safe space really where we can discuss covid and life as it is and life as we miss it without judgment or being labelled as some kind of granny murderer.

There are also humorous distractions like rude vegetables and pets.

@LivinLaVidaLoki OK thanks

I absolutely do not think covid is a conspiracy. But I think lots of people including myself are bending the rules to stay sane.

I saw my family on Christmas day (t3) we haven't seen anyone else. Or been anywhere except the shops.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 27/12/2020 15:41

And the AD stands for anti dementor.
There are creatures in Harry Potter called dementors, who suck all hope and happiness from you and eventually take your soul. Way back at the start of the pandemic thread after thread was posted on by posters like this and anyone who'd dare question anything or disagree with anything (like putting cheese in your coffee) was bullied off these threads. And so any actual discussion disappeared and it became an echo chamber of misery.

We are the antidote to that. We follow the rules, but not the "roolz" and we question and discuss with respect to each other. It's all very civil.

Then welcome!
That's another thing, we don't believe it's a conspiracy either but on here it's quite rare that you can question or discuss anything without being shouted down as an anti vax conspiracy theorist.

MagdaS · 27/12/2020 15:52

Checking in. Been lurking for the last few threads but still here. I’ve not ventured anywhere near the rest of MN for months.

Jourdain11 · 27/12/2020 16:22

Hiya!
(Blatant place marking, lol)

Jourdain11 · 27/12/2020 16:39

Oh dear, I'm in trouble now. Apparently I'm a teacher-hating, brainwashed covidiot. I'd better let my (teacher) husband know that I hate him, think he's a lazy snowflake and don't care if he lives or dies...!

NastyBlouse · 27/12/2020 16:45

Checking in. Hope you all had nice Christmases, or pleasant Fridays for those that don’t celebrate it.

I had a drink for the first time in months on Christmas Day and discovered why alcohol and antidepressants aren’t a clinically recommended combo. Feeling slightly better today but still sort of emotionally delicate and snappy. Ah well. At least there were plenty of potatoes.

BogRollBOGOF · 27/12/2020 16:55

I've had a lovely 10k run/ walk through mud, mud and more mud.
It just feels like a choice of running through a load of mud that's more pulverised than usual because of greater footfall, or dodging the world and his dog anywhere flatter with firm surfaces.

It was good to get out though, and some lovely alone time.

Sonicthehedgehogg · 27/12/2020 16:57

Checking in! Just back from the beach in time to get the piggies in before it got dark. Had to get MIL out for a good walk to get her BMs down (she's fastidious about her diabetes and had a whoops over Christmas). Blooming gorgeous at the beach, had coffee and homemade cake and florentine's (MiL had a satsuma, and tried not to be jealous).
DH reckons Oxford will be released soon, BBC not conforming but telegraph giving big hints etc.

tappitytaptap · 27/12/2020 17:01

@Jourdain11 that thread (not you obvs) is winding me up. No constructive comments other than well you’ll just have to suck it up. I feel pretty undervalued as a working parent that pays tax to be honest, but if I said that I’d be accused of hating all teachers Confused

Bollss · 27/12/2020 17:02

Checking in. Just been painting the walls and ceiling in our bedroom. Fun. I will be so happy when it's finished. Satisfying when it's done, shite when you're doing it.

tappitytaptap · 27/12/2020 17:02

I’m a bit bored of muddy walks now... I can say that here right?! I love a walk normally but bloody hell it’s freezing, I have a 2 and a 4 year old who get insanely muddy and I have to wash every item of clothing they are wearing! What I’d give for a coffee at a friends whilst the kids play in the warmth. Even soft play! Never thought I’d mourn not being able to go there Grin

starfish88 · 27/12/2020 17:07

I'm feeling more positive today too with the hope of the Oxford vaccine and passing the longest night, as well as a sunny ish day after the storm. I even started making plans for next year although nothing particularly exciting. I've also been happy to see more challenging particularly on the 'this will never be over' thread.

I also discovered today that cheese in hot chocolate is apparently a Columbian thing. I've got to say I'm not brave enough to try it but maybe someone will raise a mug to the dementors!
