In A&E with a numb face...keep me company please?!

I've NC'd for this.

Yesterday afternoon my face suddenly went numb on the right side. No other symptoms but my face has drooped and 24 hours on is still numb.

Anyone ever had this? What was the outcome? I tried hard not to google it but it's very worrying.

111 sent me to A&E and I've had bloods taken. It looks to be a long wait!

It's busy, people are queuing on ambulance stretchers to get in. Standing room only (because half the chairs are taped off for social distancing).

So far, there has been one person in for toothache, one because he's punched a wall on Christmas Day, another with a sore toe....Confused

@Orchidflower1 I could just demolish your dinner. I'm so hungry, I should've brought snacks! And a book.

I was dropped off and will be collected later on....hopefully sooner rather than later

I’m so sorry you’re not great. Hopefully you’ll be home soon!

On the joke front - I fell out with my mum over Christmas because she didn’t believe me when I told her I could turn spaghetti into a car.

You should have seen her face when I drove pasta ;)

Haha 😆 love these jokes.

The doctor just whizzed past and said he's told the stroke nurse about me. I don't know if this is a good or worrying thing!!

OP posts:
numbcheek · 27/12/2020 16:23

And I've definitely not had a vaccine yet, but I will as soon as one is offered!

Salapandas · 27/12/2020 16:24

Hey OP - most people cannot do those tests - don't worry - they aren't actually looking at whether you can do the test or not most of the time - they are doing other stuff (which I have no idea what it is, but mainly looking at eye movements I think)...

CT scan of your head will be like 3 - 5 minutes. not long at all.

numbcheek · 27/12/2020 16:25

@Salapandas that's reassuring. I was surprised to find out I couldn't do it! Hope it's because I'm just a rubbish flip clapper!

OP posts:
Salapandas · 27/12/2020 16:27

@numbcheek Yes definitely don't worry too much about it.

Have you had to do heel to toe walking yet? That's the fun one, as is touch your nose then the finger (don't try this too fast unless you want to lose an eye in the process!).

Orchidflower1 · 27/12/2020 16:31

@numbcheek I’m just about to check DH. really Wants baked beans or if he’s just being awkward.... I’m not sure about beans and sprouts.... we’ve enough wind outside 🤪.
Maybe bells comes under the remit of a stroke nurse anyway as it’s neurological?

moglovesmincepies · 27/12/2020 16:34

Hope you're sorted and home for delicious leftovers soon!

Thanks. Thought so, that's why I asked the pp for a link. Scaremongering.

Sorry @numbcheek , didn't mean to derail your thread. I hope you feel much better soon.Flowers

OhCormoranAllYeFaithful · 27/12/2020 16:36

Yep, I had exactly this. Bells Palsy.

Laughnaff · 27/12/2020 16:37

I had this in March, got turned away from a and e by a very rude receptionist. I told her I’m scared I had a stroke, she told me I looked fine. Went home, waited till Monday spoke to my gp and turned out to be bels palsy. Got antibiotics and steroids. It was better within a few weeks. Also complained about the rude receptionist at the hospital.

Greybeardy · 27/12/2020 16:38

To everyone suggesting Bells palsy - it doesn't cause facial numbness.

Hope you get your answers soon OP.

numbcheek · 27/12/2020 16:40

@Laughnaff they're taking me seriously so that's good! They are busy but nobody has tried to fob me off like that at all!

Don't worry about the derail, it gave me something to read! Nearly 5 hours here now. Arrived at 12

I had something similar about five years ago. 111 told me I didn't need to go to hospital. I was so scared as my face dropped on one side and I had tingling, then numbness and a migraine with aura but no headache. It happened twice in a couple of weeks and left me with a slightly dropped face, but it wasn't too noticeable. I can still see a very slight difference now. The GP said afterwards it was either a migraine or a very mild Bell's Palsy, but they couldn't say which and it didn't really matter and asked why I was being so vain!!

numbcheek · 27/12/2020 16:42

Wow, vain?

At least I can get away with hiding behind a mask 😷

Roselilly36 · 27/12/2020 16:43

I hope your Ok OP, Bell’s palsy was my first thought too, definitely causes drooping. I have Multiple Sclerosis so I am no stranger to MRI scans, lost count of how many scans I have had over the last 9 years. I hope you have a good outcome OP Flowers

OverTheRainbow88 · 27/12/2020 16:45

Glad they are taking it seriously and doing all the proper tests/scans

JazzyGeoff · 27/12/2020 16:46

That's why I asked about movement of the face. When I had my Bells Palsy I had paralysis on one side- not actual numbness. Although I'd describe my tongue as numb at one side maybe? Ugh that was horrible
LilQueenie · 27/12/2020 16:47

I was going to say migraine as it can happen days before the headache actually kicks in. The other thing was a possible side effect of the new vaccine. I know it was stated unlikely to be a side effect however the FDA are urging caution till they know more.

jess3817 · 27/12/2020 16:53

Good luck opFlowers

whataballbag · 27/12/2020 16:53

First thought would've been Bell's palsy

Wife2b · 27/12/2020 16:54

My OH experiences this on and off. It’s scary the first time it happens but we’ve soon learnt that it’s migraines. Get well soon op.

gggrrrargh · 27/12/2020 16:56

Hope you find out soon OP.

I’m loving the jokes, not heard any of them!
