In A&E with a numb face...keep me company please?!

I've NC'd for this.

Yesterday afternoon my face suddenly went numb on the right side. No other symptoms but my face has drooped and 24 hours on is still numb.

Anyone ever had this? What was the outcome? I tried hard not to google it but it's very worrying.

111 sent me to A&E and I've had bloods taken. It looks to be a long wait!

It's busy, people are queuing on ambulance stretchers to get in. Standing room only (because half the chairs are taped off for social distancing).

So far, there has been one person in for toothache, one because he's punched a wall on Christmas Day, another with a sore toe....Confused

My favourite rubbish joke. Why can't you get any painkillers in the jungle?

Because the parrots eat them allBlush

Salapandas · 27/12/2020 19:19

Why did the doctor tell the nurse to walk past the medication room quietly?

So she wouldn't wake the sleeping tablets...

Nanasplit · 27/12/2020 19:23

Hope you're doing OK OP.

I hope you're getting sorted.

I really feel for you being there all day on your own with no drinks or anything. Hope you can go home soon x

My favourite joke.

Sperm 1: how much further? I'm tired...HOW much further???

Sperm 2: we've a LONG way to go, we've only just passed the tonsils!!

Salapandas · 27/12/2020 19:50

Hope you are ok OP.

If you are running out of phone juice, I've always found nurses super helpful with finding a charger.

Good luck!

numbcheek · 27/12/2020 20:35

I'm back! And they've given me tea and toast Smile

They are doing some tests on my heart. Having an ecg, I have a minor hereditary heart condition so I think they are being extra careful.

I can't believe I didn't pack a drink and a book! So silly. I'll never do this again!

StealthPolarBear · 27/12/2020 20:37

All sounds good. Glad you are OK x

moglovesmincepies · 27/12/2020 20:41

I spent a night in hospital with Dd earlier in the year with nothing with me, ordered a new handbag and filled it with everything I'll ever need on my return!

moglovesmincepies · 27/12/2020 20:41

Glad they're being thorough

IPeedInThePool · 27/12/2020 20:43

Hope you're doing okay OP, yep if you need a charger a nurse or HCA will more than likely find you one, how about download kindle app?

TooOldforBouncyCastles · 27/12/2020 20:46

Our local library has an online library. On the off chance you have your library card with you, you can download an app and read any book they have in the online library

Nanasplit · 27/12/2020 20:47

Have you had a drink yet? Check with them first but it won't do you any good to get dehydrated either...

numbcheek · 27/12/2020 20:48

Ok, scan is back and it's clear. They are giving me steroids to treat Bell's palsy!

Starting immediately when I've had my toast

numbcheek · 27/12/2020 20:48

👍 🫖🥪

jess3817 · 27/12/2020 20:56

Glad to hear you're ok op

Toasty280 · 27/12/2020 20:56

Glad to hear you have had tea and toast (for some reason hospital tea and toast is always great- probably because I've always been knackered when I've had it)

Salapandas · 27/12/2020 20:58

This sounds like a step in a good direction, although scary.

I hate tea, but I LOVE hospital tea. I always have milk, and one sugar, and if i can a biscuit for dunking.

MichelleofzeResistance · 27/12/2020 20:59

Hurray for having the answer Flowers And hurray for the tea and toast. Feel much better soon OP.

InsufferableLKIA · 27/12/2020 21:00

Good luck to you OP and thanks all for the jokes, I have been stealing some of them to amuse a poorly friend of mine. So you have helped more than one person, joketellers Smile

My own contribution (courtesy of my friend in happier times)
My neighbour banged on my door last night at 3am. Can you believe it? 3AM!!! Fortunately, I was already awake and playing the bagpipes.

Flowers hope the steroids work and you are better soon OP

Vinosaurus · 27/12/2020 21:01

Yay for Bell's palsy! I mean - not yay, but certainly preferable to the alternatives. Fingers crossed you make a speedy recovery.

ByTheStarryNight · 27/12/2020 21:05

Glad you got a simple outcome. When I had Bells Palsy it did get a little worse before it got better, but the steroids will work if you keep going with them. I was advised to take a photo daily, so I could look for improvements.

The most annoying thing was my eye, which had to have drops every hour including several overnight. I found tape too difficult to use and resorted to a sleep mask instead.

Get well soon Flowers

Fuckingcrustybread · 27/12/2020 21:06

Great news it's Bells, as Vinosaurus said, not really great but better than Stroke or TIA.
I hope that you make a good recovery.
A sandwich walked into a bar and the barman said Sorry, we don't serve food.

getsomehelp · 27/12/2020 21:08

My Mum had the symptoms you describe at the beginning of her illness. If the numbness /paralysis continues to other parts of your body & there is any doubt you should get checked for MS. (Sorry, not wanted to alarm)
