In A&E with a numb face...keep me company please?!

I've NC'd for this.

Yesterday afternoon my face suddenly went numb on the right side. No other symptoms but my face has drooped and 24 hours on is still numb.

Anyone ever had this? What was the outcome? I tried hard not to google it but it's very worrying.

111 sent me to A&E and I've had bloods taken. It looks to be a long wait!

It's busy, people are queuing on ambulance stretchers to get in. Standing room only (because half the chairs are taped off for social distancing).

So far, there has been one person in for toothache, one because he's punched a wall on Christmas Day, another with a sore toe....Confused

Oh no I’m so sorry to hear this. Perhaps Bell’s Palsy, but please do not take my word for it, I am not a Dr. I hope you’re seen soon x

LST · 27/12/2020 14:27

My partner last Christmas in fact. It turned out to be bells palsy. Hoping you're ok op

StealthPolarBear · 27/12/2020 14:28

You poor thing. My old boss had these symptoms and it turned out to be bells palsy. Took a while to recover but he was fine and it's not worrying. Hope this is the same for you.
Hope you're home soon x

Thanks everyone. My paramedic friend said Bell's palsy so hopefully that and a quick recovery!

Sorry to hear you’re in A&E OP. :(

Uhhmm... ooh! A rubbish joke for you: why was the poor lady selling yeast?

...

To raise some dough!

Hope your bloods come back quickly and they can sort it asap

numbcheek · 27/12/2020 14:35

😂 thanks for the joke

I get this before it develops into a migraine. I hope it’s nothing scary and settles soon.

My favourite joke: what’s the difference between Doctors and God?

God doesn’t think he’s a doctor Grin

Haha, there's one nurse here who is very abrupt.

He's just told off a patient because she's presented herself with a temperature. She got a right dressing down!

Unfortunately for the rest of us he's left her sat here in the waiting room!

Hello, poor you. I hope you get seen soon. Another one who thinks Bell’s Palsy. Definitely right to be there - you need steroids. Try to get some eye drops too and some surgical tape to tape closed your eye. Best wishes.

numbcheek · 27/12/2020 14:41

@NooneElseIsSingingMySong does the numbness last as long as 24 hours before the migraine? I used to get migraines as a teenager. I'm 40 next and haven't had one in many years.

I used to get aura though, not numbness

Will the bloods diagnose Bell's palsy?

OP posts:
ScottishDiblet · 27/12/2020 14:44

Hmmm I think they use the tests to rule out other things eg stroke and then if it’s not that they say it’s Bell’s palsy. If you need a distraction do you have Netflix on your phone? Have you seen Schitt’s Creek. Very funny. Or on iPlayer Love Life. Very easy comedy.

Coffeeandcrumpet · 27/12/2020 14:44

I've had bells palsy, it's not nice but does resolve. Make sure you get eye drops and tape your eye at night.

Knittingnanny · 27/12/2020 14:44

I had that once some years ago, it was a hemaeplegic (sp?) migraine and wasn’t serious. Although I’ve been a severe migraine sufferer most of my life I’ve never had one like that, writing was jumbled, and the same symptoms as you, never had one since but remember how scary it was.
Hope you get seen soon

numbcheek · 27/12/2020 14:47

Ok, I'll get some tape for my eye. I wouldn't have known to do that x

OP posts:
numbcheek · 27/12/2020 14:48

I've got Netflix but no headphones!

EggnogAndAMincepie · 27/12/2020 14:50

If you suffer from migraines is there a possibility it's a hemiplegic migraine? Migraine that mimics strokes. I suffer from them and can go numb in any part of my body including my face.

Sparklingbrook · 27/12/2020 14:50

A friend had this and it was Bells Palsy IIRC they had a course of steroids and were told it might take up to 6 months to correct but about 4 weeks later it had all gone.

numbcheek · 27/12/2020 14:53

I'd say it's 20 years since I had a migraine. As a teen I had around 4/5 and had aura with them.

I've no headache or anything.

Orchidflower1 · 27/12/2020 14:54

Hope you get answers soon op. I was going to suggest bell’s palsy too - someone I know had it.

Have they a given you an eta of when you’ll be seen?

OppsUpsSide · 27/12/2020 14:55

When I had it it was a TIA, I was fine though just facially wonky for a a few months!
Knew it wasn’t Bell’s as I could move my eyebrow on that side of my face.

Wishingforluck · 27/12/2020 14:56

Hope your not waiting to long.

Bagelsandbrie · 27/12/2020 14:56

Poor you! Hope you get seen ASAP and its something easily treatable.

numbcheek · 27/12/2020 14:56

No idea how long it'll be. They have done the bloods and usual obs but now just waiting. I've been standing up for just shy of 3 hours!

OP posts:
Wishingforluck · 27/12/2020 14:59

I went to a&e recently but it was the middle of the night so luckily I was seen immediately as no one else waiting.
