Yes, in the UK and the loft was very cold today. DS2 complained about the low temperature upstairs earlier, entirely down to cold air dropping out of the loft hatch.

Sodding got out of the house when DH was transferring the junk temporarily to the shed. He’s shut in after dark each day and DH was fretting about how to get him back in quickly. “Put some water in that mug, stick it in the microwave and set it going” I said. Ta da! Sodding appeared like magic, almost before the microwave started up. I froze off small portions of fish and turkey mince for him when he was tiny so micrrowave = good things about to happen for Sodding. He can hear it ping at least 2 gardens away.

soddingkitten · 28/12/2020 19:21

The microwave door also sticks, so slamming that is enough to summon Sodding.

Therainisback · 28/12/2020 19:24

Therainisback - the house in that programme is gorgeous. Is it actually on the coast?
Nowhere nearGrin. It's in the Peak District.

forgetthehousework · 28/12/2020 19:53

@Champagneforeveryone

forgetthehousework we have a very nice and proper friend who joyfully refers to a similar cupboard as her glory hole - this amuses me far more than is appropriate for an adult Grin

DM used to do this too but thank the Lord has stopped of her own accord - the images were too much to even contemplate

eggy that is indeed an achievement, I shall advise ChampagneCat that she needs to up her game.

8 out of 10 cats does countdown 'the glory hole' joke. Just look it up on youtube. Laugh until you cry ...
sproutsandparsnips · 28/12/2020 21:23

Just want to reiterate what a lovely, comforting thread this is. Thank you.
HelenaJustina I am not an accomplished runner but I love the good tiredness achieved by a long walk - it's so much more pleasant than tiredness from work! Is your username a reference to Falco?
Spent the day trying to write an assignment but really not feeling it.....

Nydj · 28/12/2020 21:30

I am back and can report that we were able to join the online mischief movie night - it was great. In fact it was so good, we have booked another evening later this week and as it is improv, it should be different from what we saw tonight.

If anyone else fancies it (it is only £10), here is a link to book tickets mischiefcomedy.com/our-work/mischief-movie-night/about.

@EggNogPegg, your new pans sound great - I am a sucker for space saving kitchenware but end up buying bulky things like an air fryer and large saucepan sets 🤷‍♀️

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 28/12/2020 21:37

Can I join in?

We have just put out all our unnecessarily huge amount of recycling for collection tomorrow. The living room is finally almost clear of the Christmas Day bomb that hit it! DH is watching (American) football commentators on YouTube but has just switched over to Graham Norton videos. I'm lying on the couch Mumsnetting and considering what to make for dinner secretly hoping that DH will agree to a takeaway! The DDs are amusing themselves, I think DD1 is working on some of her uni applications.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 28/12/2020 21:39

Agree that this is a lovely thread!

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 28/12/2020 21:41

DH is still not back from old house and Silkiecat is howling a lot for him. DD has given her some quick cuddles but she wants DH. He messaged an hour ago to say he was leaving and it takes 50 minutes in theory. He did say he would stop at service station for food but I reminded him we are Tier 4 so not to. The kids have also already eaten. DH said he's hurt his back putting the table in the car.

Champagneforeveryone · 28/12/2020 21:41

I have done a great number of boring jobs today, utterly worthy of this thread. Lists, budgets and all that grown up shite. Tomorrow there will be more.

And ChampagneCat is resolutely ignoring all boxes I have left out for her Hmm

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/12/2020 21:52

DH made himself a nice hot waterbottle for his feet while working (at some book or article or so). It developed two tiny holes and soaked his espadrilles. The space under desk nr 2 (he has 3 in his office) is now clean as well. Did he empty the bottle? Of course not, he took it to the kitchen and placed it on the worktop...

which is now really clean, too.

EggNogPegg · 28/12/2020 22:03

@Nydj. DHs last shopping cgannel purchase was an air fryer. Which in fairness he uses almost daily. He did roast potatoes in it for Christmas dinner and paella is a regular feature too. Tonight he did chips to go with the mini burgers he picked up in Aldi. I had veggie toad in the hole with mash as toad in the hole should ALWAYS be served with mash.

I am working on my assignment. Despite my procrastination, it has not started to write itself.

Welcome @HeartsTrumpDiamonds. This is the loveliest thread (set of threads) on the internet.

@Prokupatuscrakedatus. That made me laugh so much.

MissConductUS · 28/12/2020 22:18

@HeartsTrumpDiamonds - Of course you are most welcome to join us and thanks for your news? Are you also in North America? I ask because if you haven't had dinner yet it's awfully late in the UK to be eating. And your DH has an interest in American football.

DS is making pizza as I type this.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 28/12/2020 22:25

@MissConductUS yes! We are now in Toronto so EST. Used to live in UK for years though.

Dinner dilemma solved, there is a forgotten chicken pot pie in the freezer.

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 28/12/2020 22:29

DH is home and now him and I are having fish, beans and chips. Cat is telling him off and complaining that she hasn't had any fish today just her renal diet food and 2 portions of turkey

I will have a cup of tea.

DH said at out old house chimney pots at the front are on our side and chimney pots at the back are on neighbours side.

Frownette · 28/12/2020 22:31

I just filled up a bottle with tap water and put it in the freezer, wondering how long it will take to chill.

Need a cold drink.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 28/12/2020 22:37

@EggNogPegg thank you Smile

halfpasteleven · 28/12/2020 22:45

I think I'll do a slow cooker stew for dinner tomorrow. There's one in the freezer I need to take out.

EggNogPegg · 28/12/2020 23:05

I've just got myself a bit water bottle as I'm still feeling some lower back pain and my groin/ hips are really sore today. Most likely a combination of yesterday's run and my enthusiastic efforts to stretch it all out when I got home.

DS1 just woke with a nightmare. He got an Echo Dot for Christmas and as he likes to fall asleep to music (usually Ewan the Dream Sheep), I made him a 'Goodnight DS1' playlist. He asked for it on when I settled him. I can now hear Pachabel's Canon in D Major through our adjoining bedroom wall. Makes a nice change from the PigMan Rap that he plays on repeat as he's trying to learn the entire rap.

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 29/12/2020 00:02

DH added to his list of crimes against the cat by leaving her to go to the bathroom, she got very cross with him about that and is on purring strike with him though purring for DD who wasn't selfish and stayed with her.

Just drinking tea. Quite sleepy now. Not sure what DH did at the house for 5.5 hours, I suspect he went to sleep for 4 hours or so though at least he put the bins out.

MissConductUS · 29/12/2020 00:19

@HeartsTrumpDiamonds - Thank goodness, someone else on the thread in my time zone! In case you missed it in the prior thread I'm in the Hudson Highlands area of southern NY state.

@Frownette - I love a cold drink too. I keep a Brita pitcher of water in the fridge at all times and I have an insulated drinking bottle of ice water for on-the-go hydration.

Eggy, another two pieces you could add to the bedtime playlist are Appalacian Spring and Quiet City, both by the 20th century American neo-classical composer Aaron Copland. He lived in my area. They're both lovely compositions.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 29/12/2020 00:34

@MissConductUS and @Frownette we are suckers for cold drinks here too. Although that's a pretty common thing in North America. I will never again have a fridge that does not make its own ice!!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 29/12/2020 00:37

@MissConductUS we are not very far apart then! I love seeing Americans and Canadians on threads. Are you American or an expat? I was born in Canada to an English mother, I have more English relatives than Canadian ones, spent 13 years living in London, and both my DC were born there, so I'm sort of half and half. Smile

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 29/12/2020 00:39

Sorry, I forget that not everyone is as open as I am on here. Please just ignore my questions if they are too intrusive!

MissConductUS · 29/12/2020 01:11

@HeartsTrumpDiamonds Your questions are certainly not too intrusive for me. Smile I am an American, born and raised here in NY. I am mostly of Irish ancestry but have never been to the UK. My DH did live and work in London for almost a year, but that was before we met. I found MN a few years ago reading an article about it in The Economist, which I subscribe to.

By the way, both of my DC are currently attending university in Massachusetts, so if your DD is applying to uni in the US I am very familiar with the application process. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions about it.
