I'm pleased that my thread closer went down well. I confess to have held that ambition for a while. I'm satisfied now.

I used my foam roller earlier and my hips, groin and thighs are incredibly tight, so that probably contributed to my running pain. DH was bemused to walk into the playroom and find me on the floor about to start some hip stretches.

My friend just dropped round The Walking Dead Monopoly as she got it as a duplicate gift. I've told DH that he has to play it with me. He is not enthused.

Champagneforeveryone · 27/12/2020 22:13

DS is shouting "oy" at ChampagneCat. She has worked out when he is talking to friends online, and parades across his desk and stares down his webcam at them. He pretends to be annoyed but his friends find her hilarious, though today she upped her game to pinching some of his lunch - shaky ground indeed Grin

halfpasteleven · 27/12/2020 22:28

I didn't leave the house today. I did get dressed though.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 27/12/2020 22:34

@halfpasteleven - Smile

MissConductUS · 27/12/2020 22:44

Welcome @MutteringDarkly and @lachy and thanks for sharing your calming news.

I decided to go with DH and DS to visit MIL, all masked and socially distanced of course. We dropped off some groceries and leftovers and exchanged gifts. DD now has her birthday and Xmas checks cheques. It was lovely to see her.

After finishing The Living and the Dead amazon prime video put me right into another BBC series, The Secret of Crickley Hall, which is turning into a proper ghost story.

Eggy, you closed the last thread with style. Thank you. Smile And you can't overdo it with running like that if you're out of the habit. Silly Eggy.

We are all in isolation as DH is positive - from 21st. DS2 is also positive from Christmas Eve - highlight of Christmas Day was an outing to the test centre as otherwise we can't leave the house. Highlight of today was DH and I making a leftover cheese soufflé! And me constantly checking to see if I have any symptoms which would make me worry that my vaccine had on 11th dec will have not had any effect. Hoping to get x2 uni assignments done so time will not be wasted.....

MissConductUS · 27/12/2020 23:14

I'm so sorry to hear that @sproutsandparsnips. Is anyone symptomatic or have any significant comorbidities?

OP posts:
soddingkitten · 27/12/2020 23:32

I am sorry to hear your COVID news sprouts. Isolation is grim. Are your DH and DS ok with their COVID, or very poorly with it? Do you have friends or family nearby who can keep you topped up with groceries?

I wore some new perfume today which packs quite a punch. Sodding’s been giving me a wide berth all day since I put it on. It’s part of a sampler set with 1ml decants that I had as a present, so no major expense has been committed on this one perfume. However, if I want peace and quiet, I have an effective kitten repellent in my armoury.

psychomath · 28/12/2020 01:35

I discovered that Elmlea is a rubbish substitute for real cream. However, I learned this because a lactose intolerant friend shared her otherwise delicious trifle with me, so it was quite a happy discovery really.

HelenaJustina · 28/12/2020 07:49

Hoping for a swift and smooth household recovery @sproutsandparsnips my DB and his daughter tested positive on Christmas Day, thankfully mild so far.

Spudlet · 28/12/2020 09:09

@sproutsandparsnips Oh no! I hope you all feel ok and your DH and DS recover smoothly.

Nydj · 28/12/2020 09:24

Sorry about the positive Covid tests @sproutsandparsnips and @HelenaJustina - I hope symptoms are minimal and stay that way. I may have to do housework today 😕

sproutsandparsnips · 28/12/2020 09:49

Thank you to all - there have only been very mild symptoms here. Would have not even been considered if it hadn't been for Covid! Loss of taste and smell is the worst for DH, though he felt there might have been an inkling of return yesterday......
Going out into the garden to hang out the washing is very exciting as there is FRESH AIR! Out of isolation on Thursday.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/12/2020 10:39

to all the positives best wishes and smooth recoveries

I am calmly relieved that vaccinations started yesterday in this country: a 101 year old woman in Bochum was among the first.

One of the newly installed smoke alarms just fell of the ceiling and woke DS.

Champagneforeveryone · 28/12/2020 12:21

We have had to empty all 3 bins this morning and I am now down to just two rolls of the heinously expensive Brabantia bin bags.

DDog3 has been to the emergency vet and has in all likelihood fractured her toe. She's currently reclining on the sofa with a pained but dignified expression on her face, rather like a Jane Austen heroine staring into the middle distance across a windswept moor.

DH is out with the able bodied amongst us. He has a hangover so being out of everyone's way is the best place for him.

DS requires a lift to Curry's to buy a specific cable that will allegedly make the internet faster. This will involve drills, those little clips with a nail in them and also possibly a ladder. Unfortunately he's still in bed at the moment.

Spudlet · 28/12/2020 12:44

DH has been for another bike ride in shorts. He only has 17 miles to go to have covered 1000 miles in 2020 and not far to go to have climbed the equivalent of Everest (no mean feat in Norfolk) so he’ll be out again at least once more. He only started getting really into cycling during the first lockdown so I’m really proud of him.

soddingkitten · 28/12/2020 13:02

I have a homemade quiche Lorraine baking in the oven. I am really looking forwards to eating it. I won’t tell DH how much cheese I put in it or he’ll probably refuse to eat it. 🤫

MissConductUS · 28/12/2020 13:15

Good day lovely PotT.

I'm on annual leave this week and have literally nothing to do today. I'm thinking of taking my car to the car wash as it's covered in salt from the last snowstorm. It's 0800 here and everyone else is still asleep.

@Champagneforeveryone - last summer DH had an electrician run network cable from our router to two wifi access points in other parts of the house. It did make everything faster. We had to up our game with everyone home.

@Spudlet - I think you can safely assume that your DH is not infected.

I do need to do a bit of planning for DH's birthday at the end of the week.

Spudlet · 28/12/2020 13:19

Yes, I’d say he’s in the clear...! And his boss (aka Patient Zero) is now feeling better, which is good as he got a secondary infection on top of it. He’s a longtime friend before he was a boss, so glad he’s on the mend and the rest of his family are ok too.

I am snuggled up under a blanket with ddog on my feet because it’s cold. DH is still in his shorts. My grandpa would have said he was crackers 😂

lilylongjohn · 28/12/2020 13:23

I'm sat in front of the log burner drinking tea and watching my dh outside chopping kindling for said fire. It's bloody freezing out there too. He's such a kind man.

soddingkitten · 28/12/2020 13:36

I'm on annual leave this week and have literally nothing to do today.

Same here. DH and I have agreed to spend two hours a day in the loft clearing out 20 years’ accumulated junk. This slow burn attack will reduce the likelihood of rows.

slalomsuki · 28/12/2020 13:43

Yesterday was DS"s 18th so as we couldn't go out we dragged out a table top grill and bought food to do basic Mongolian BBQ as a birthday meal. Managed to fuse the whole house so we went back to the gas job and stir fried it.

Today we have snow and the water has gone off.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 28/12/2020 14:16

There is a drive in circus in the car park of a nearby racecourse. Most days we can barely hear it but I think the wind must be coming from that direction today as it sounds as though it's in a neighbour's garden. I hadn't really thought much about it before but the racecourse car parks are very useful. They are just off the motorway so easily accessible, there are three of them and they are HUGE. Currently they are hosting a drive in circus in the one nearest the motorway, a drive in movie theatre in the middle one and a drive in Covid testing centre in the one nearest the racecourse.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/12/2020 14:32

The smoke detector has been reattached to the ceiling and tested. A procedure during which DS remained undisturbed.

We are having broccoli for our main meal - I assume with french fries and schnitzel.

Champagneforeveryone · 28/12/2020 14:53

Installation of The Cable is underway, I can see it dangling outside our front window (much to DDog3's disgust) I'm sure cables are slung across oceans with less turmoil.

I am acting nursemaid to DDog3 as she recuperates, and am therefore taking no part in The Installation. DS is fetching the ladder so things appear to be hotting up.
