you lovely people!
DS has just handed the paper in via the schools online platform just within the deadline - he thinks. Yesterday night all his teachers were online and put up work for the week.

I had a reasonably quiet day at work and: there were 5 Lindor balls left in my advent calendar Smile.

Raera · 04/01/2021 19:43

Last night I watched a Bill Nighy film on Netflix.
The church I attend now and have done since a child was used as an outside and indoor location.
It was really strange to see all those people in my church who I didn't know!

Silkiechickscat · 04/01/2021 19:47

DH has just said not back until 10pm or 11pm Sad but at least will get things done.

Spudlet · 04/01/2021 20:01

Yay, @Prokupatuscrakedatus! 🤞 for a good result!

I have just taken ddog for a walk in the dark along a path that runs close to the zoo. I can confirm that nothing gets the old heart beating quite like hearing the tiger roaring, then seeing a pair of glowing eyes in the light of your head torch...! However, as both ddog and I remain uneaten, I assume it was one of Shere Khan’s smaller cousins Shock

Doublechins · 04/01/2021 20:07

Wow spudlet that's so cool to be able to hear a tiger on your dog walk

EggNogPegg · 04/01/2021 20:23

@Spudlet, that is very cool!!

DS1 complained at teatime about going into school during lockdown. DH replied that it was going to be so much better for him than last time, being stuck indoors all the time. So it appears that he is 100% on board now. Why he felt the need to fight me I don't know.

I did spaghetti and meatballs for tea. When I drained the spaghetti, it slid out of the pan, into the colander without so much as a single strand sticking. It was very satisfying.

EggNogPegg · 04/01/2021 20:24

Long night for your DH @Silkiechickscat. Will this finish it off now so that you no longer need to worry about it?

Therainisback · 04/01/2021 20:27

First day back at work was better than expected. I made my latte at home & took it in with me in my new flask (trying to cut down on my spending). I like any milkshake except for chocolate & those horrible thick ones that are impossible to suck up the straw. When I was a child, many moons ago, you could get a green, lime flavoured one in our local cafe which was a real treat. Happy memories. . .

Spudlet · 04/01/2021 20:37

It’s is pretty cool. We can hear the animals from our garden too. Someone I used to work with told me someone in our village once walked into their kitchen to find an escapee monkey eyeing them up... not sure if I believe them! But they do have a bald eagle that they fly (not at the moment because of avian flu) and it swooped over my head once out on a run before it headed for home. That was really cool. We have season tickets for the zoo, but they’ve decided to close at the moment (I don’t suppose they’ll have a choice now anyway) and DS is missing it.

Spudlet · 04/01/2021 20:40

I hate bananas in all their forms, and have them in the house only because DS and DH like them... I will even bake banana bread tomorrow because DS likes it, even though you have to mash bananas the smell... Envy

Best milkshake ever has to be the McDonalds ones that you could barely get through the straw, though it’s been years since I had one!

Champagneforeveryone · 04/01/2021 20:47

I went for a "nap" at midday, intending to power on through to an early night tonight. DH woke me at 8 to tell me about the lockdown Shock

He is by turns chipper and grumpy. He's due back at work tomorrow but was furloughed through the first pandemic. I pointed out that construction workers were expressly mentioned as "people unable to work from home" - he snorted and declared that he was not a construction worker. He is though.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 04/01/2021 20:47

@spudlet I feel for you - the smell, the texture - but it is on the list of things DS eats and so there they are lurking on their plate. He insists on wasting chocolate sprinkles on them; poor things!

Silkiechickscat · 04/01/2021 20:50

EggNog Hopefully he is finishing tonight, that was original aim (at least except for maybe paint to chuck and some old paper to chuck) though house moves are still allowed for now at least. We are still going to try and move at speed of light as is buyer but looks like it can go through now and we can go down again if needed. There's a few people crying tears of relief on the MN property threads.

Exams cancelled this year and schools out until at least Feb half term. Not sure if we'll be able to get our taps repaired now - I have to read full guidance but house was the biggest one for us, then schools.

Strawberrycreamsundae · 04/01/2021 20:58
@EggNogPegg that’s not the Chippenham one is it? The queuing on the roundabout there is horrendous!
It’s often ridiculous trying to get in to it ☹️ We just walk over nowadays from Sainsbury’s too!

Strawberrycreamsundae · 04/01/2021 21:16

Bananas.....I only like them if they’re under-ripe or as fritters 😋My dad, who died recently aged 96, had never eaten a banana in his whole life and was rather proud of it! My mum told me she remembered being given her first banana during the war as a teenager; she kept it for a special treat and didn’t realise they go black and horrible.....🥴 so never did get to eat that one!
Milkshake-wise I love chocolate or coffee especially with an ice cream float 😋
We often have foxes very close to the house, we back onto woods. There’s a vixen screaming out there at the moment.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 04/01/2021 21:31

We had a family of foxes at DC's kindergarten, they were in possession of the bins in that area and kept the rats (we are near Landwehrkanal) down.

Friends bought a house in Konradshöhe (for those that know Berlin) and were suprised to learn that wild boars can open garden gates. They don't always just walk through the fence.

MissConductUS · 04/01/2021 21:56

I just had a two hour nap. Eggy, does that disqualify it as a power nap?

I just read about your new lockdown. I'm so sorry. We may have one coming too but I think it will be regional rather than national.

HelenaJustina · 04/01/2021 22:31

I’m shattered, and the PM’s announcement has meant tomorrow will be absolutely bloody manic. Much love to all those facing the new lockdown with fear/anxiety. We can (dully) do this!

EggyPegg · 04/01/2021 22:45

@Spudlet. It was the McDonalds ones I had in mind. Freezes your brain and your cheeks suck in with the effort of getting it through the straw.

@MissConductUS, yep, I think you've moved into actual nap territory there. I only meant to shut my eyes for 10 minutes. I wound up napping for 30.

DH spoke to MIL on the phone earlier and explained how it was a much better idea to send the DC into school than keep them at home. I refer to my earlier comment about sowing the seed 🙄

There are wild boar in Berlin?!

Silkiechickscat · 04/01/2021 22:55

DH once crashed into 2 wild boars in his Dad's new car near Chantilly in France. People shouted at us not to stop or get out as a woman had done the same a few days earlier got out to check wild boars and car and 7 wild boars charged at her.

The garage dog was very keen on the car and kept licking the wild boar blood off.

Silkiechickscat · 04/01/2021 22:59

I'm feeling quite zombie like now up all night, couple of hours sleep in morning then home learning with DS and DD and waiting for announcement, liasing with solicitor EA etc and now waiting for DH back - due back soon but didn't manage to finish everything.

Cat was fine until an hour ago then she howled - DS said oh the cat should be fine she has half her tuna left and the cat pointed out she wasn't fine. I suggested DS add water to her tuna tin as she loves fishy water and she was happy again until DS went to the bathroom.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 04/01/2021 23:03

@EggyPegg
Yes, but of course more on the outskirts where people who buy houses bc of the children move to.
We only have martens in the roof and different birds of prey. And lovely spiders.

soddingkitten · 04/01/2021 23:38

I like how the thread has evolved from bananas and foxes to wild boar opening garden gates. Smile

The printer was fixed and was working by mid-afternoon. My swearing and frustration levels dropped accordingly.

Sodding treated me to a lovely cuddle earlier. I know its really the magic blanket, not me, that he loves best. I know this because I like the magic blanket best too. It is the warmest and traps the most heat when the room is draughty or cold.

EggNogPegg · 05/01/2021 00:11

@Silkiechickscat. Bloody hell. That sounds terrifying.
How dare your DH stay out so late and abandon SilkieCat.

@MissConductUS, is that the new Sabrina you're watching. Melissa Joan Hart is still Sabrina to me.

@Nydj. How are you enjoying Gavin and Stacey? We've been rewatching it again recently. It gets even better the second or third time around as you're not so Hmm at Nessa and Bryn, so you just relax and let it take you on its bonkers journey.

EggNogPegg · 05/01/2021 00:17

@soddingkitten, glad your printer is sorted. I regularly do battle with the ones at work as if I switch my laptop off, it forgets all the settings and won't talk to the printer. The IT people got so sick of hearing from me that they sent me step by step screen shots of how to fix it. I'm a ninja at it now.
