Chinese chip shop round here only do pineapple. This is not satisfactory. I'll have to walk 7 minutes to the other one to get hold of this delicacy. Such an ordeal!

@MissConductUS it's soddingkitten who has printer ordeals. Mine is that I got sent some new computing equipment for work but can't set it up properly.

Taswama · 04/01/2021 14:09

@Raera - we do a spinach and salmon lasagne for ds1 who dislikes meat and dp who is allergic to tomatoes. (ds2 dislikes fish so has a standard version, I'm happy with either.

@Frownette - its quite a challenging read - 3 different stories intertwined, not entirely clear who the characters are and in 2 of the 3 stories there is some hidden agenda / secret meetings to further complicate matters. I'm persevering at the moment. It was recommended on here years ago as a way to truly understand that period of history and has been on my to read list since then. But I had assumed it was non fiction rather than fictionalised facts.

halfpasteleven · 04/01/2021 14:25

@HeartsTrumpDiamonds

Oooh halfpasteleven bananas on toast! Have you ever tried adding peanut butter? I know now what I am having for breakfast!
I only like peanut butter with apples @HeartsTrumpDiamonds (weirdo that I am!) But I hope you have a lovely breakfast and I'm glad to be of inspiration for it!

My apologies Frownette I do now recall your nonfunctional new IT equipment.

Here are two photos to show the aftermath of our minor storm. The garden looks so dead now that it's a bit depressing.

DS has graciously accepted two blueberry pancakes for breakfast, so I suppose I'll get started on making the chocolate chip ones.

Something is really nice which I cook for my mother is simmered apples with demerara, raisons and spice and served with a dollop of greek yoghurt. She can't crunch on apples anymore. Her remaining teeth are strong but she has lost a few back ones, old age.

Squirrel26 · 04/01/2021 15:18

I’m remortgaging, @MissConductUS. My current fixed rate deal is coming to an end. I’m hoping there is something out there, what with Brexit and the global pandemic, but it’s not a huge mortgage and my salary has gone up a bit since I took it on, so fingers crossed.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 04/01/2021 15:35

I have to go and do some adulting but I am procrastinating. I've a to-do list the length of my arm of stuff I ignored over the holidays.

Frownette · 04/01/2021 15:57

@MissConductUS beautiful photos :)

Much to my surprise I think I've made up with my brother this afternoon. I spoke to him and he's in agreement with what I said. Normally he'd swear at me. So I'm tentatively happy that we can sort things out

EggNogPegg · 04/01/2021 16:18

DH has taken DS2 to his piano lesson. DS1 is in his room.playing his Kindle and narrating/making noises.

I went to my smear test appointment this afternoon, and was told that I'd arrived a full 24 hours early. DH laughed when I told him.

I ran the 1/2 mile to school this afternoon, and am calling that my RED January contribution for today. My legs are tired and achey so I don't like to push them too much in case I injure myself. I ran it at a decent pace though, 3m 34s. I have just looked on Strava and spotted that I'm 6th on the leaderboard of a particular section for time. Others on there include DS1s teacher and another school mum. I now secretly want to beat them all.

EggNogPegg · 04/01/2021 16:19

@Frownette That's excellent news.

Nydj · 04/01/2021 16:32

Hello everyone - I have finished the first day of work for 2021. Please don’t tell me how many more there are left.

On the subject of bananas - yuk in all forms and like someone mentioned upthread, I struggle with the smell too. I am not a fan of milkshakes either but if I had to choose between anything bananaey and a non-banana milkshake, I’d go for the milkshake.

I don’t think it’s too outing for me to say that living in london, we see foxes regularly. There was one strolling about in our very small garden this morning.

I am going to watch episode three, series one of Gavin and Stacy for the first time now.

Nydj · 04/01/2021 16:34

@Frownette, that’s really good - my brother and I get along better the less we interact Grin

LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE · 04/01/2021 16:46

I managed to complete admin that has been hanging over my head. Cool pics @MissConductUS, pancakes and milkshake sound great right now.

I keep wondering if it will snow here - so far all we've had is a touch of frozen rain.

MissConductUS · 04/01/2021 16:49

Eggy there's a pretty good running thread going on now that I've jumped onto.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4124982-Runners-face-and-knees

I'm glad Runkeeper doesn't have a social media/competition feature to it. I'm old, slowed by injury, and do just enough to get the cardiovascular benefits.

@Frownette - that's great news about your brother.

I started watching Sabrina on Netflix last night. It's pretty good so far. It's kind of campy and sweet for a show about a teenage witch. Grin

I couldn't sleep last night just worrying about lockdown and house sale falling through and home ed of DS and DD. Then I slept through DS's first three lessons. Blush 2 out of three he refuses at school and other was maths which he's miles ahead in so think it'll be OK.

Then did geography and English with him. Frantic e-mails with solictor and EA as housing market could be shut from tomorrow if March style restrictions but Scotland have announced their lockdown from tomorrow and they have left property market open for now at least. So fingers crossed for 8pm tonight same in England and no further increases.

DH is down at old house trying to clear rest of it today or at least essential part as we maybe banned from going there again. School learning looks better than last lockdown when we got half the lessons though DD in y10 has no physics which is worrying as its a GCSE course year. 2 out of 3 of her science teachers have been off sick for 2 months or so and no science teachers to cover them. Just random teacher looking confused.

No foxes here luckily but we used to get in London a lot. They ate DD's friends rabbits. Sad

Silkiechickscat · 04/01/2021 17:20

I love milkshake especially ones made with italian ice cream - Stracciatella is my favourite.

Drinking pineapple juice and eaten cola laces or lances as co-op has put on the packet.

Spudlet · 04/01/2021 17:22

Home learning has been a disaster today. Hoping we can get into it more tomorrow. At least he’s not the only one struggling to focus, based on the class WhatsApp group, but jeez. It’s been hellish.

Regardless of whatever is announced later DS is now on home learning for a while, at least based on the letter from school. They’re reopening for KS2 but not for the youngest groups. So yeah, we’re kind of buggered. Sigh.

It’s flipping freezing here as well... ugh. I

Silkiechickscat · 04/01/2021 17:27

School also announced if one child tests positive the whole class will be treated as a contact not just those sitting in 2 metres and both mine are in year bubbles so basically almost whole year affected every case.

DS has been going mute about the testing and running off since announced on 18th December but today he spoke for the first time to me about it so a little progress.

Weloveoptimus · 04/01/2021 17:30

My youngest likes bacon super noodles and is having them now with a side mini bowl of cheese (ver ver healthy)

We have Red Leicester and some mild cheddar and also a mature cheddar to choose from, but it did take quite some consideration.
She eventually chose mild cheddar because she is the queen of bland.
I would have had the mature.

EggNogPegg · 04/01/2021 17:50

Welcome back @Weloveoptimus

I am trying to convince DH that should schools only be open to KW/V children, that this time we should take up a place. DH wants me to not work so that I can be at home with the DC, because his 'productivity goes through the floor' when he's tasked with home schooling too. Our DC do not cope well with home schooling. I need to work. So does he. So they need to go in. He says only children that HAVE to go should as it's putting too much pressure on the school. His solution is for his work to go unaffected, but for me to not go in at all. Given that I work as a 1:1 TA for a vulnerable child, my role is pretty bloody key.

I just had a half an hour power nap on the sofa. I feel much better for it and am now ploughing on with my assignment.

Spudlet · 04/01/2021 18:06

@Weloveoptimus Sounds like the dinner of champions, frankly 😋

@EggNogPegg DS doesn’t have TA support at this time but another child in his class does, and my Debo did (eventually...) and damn right your job is essential. Give your DH a flick around the ear from me and tell him to cop onto himself!

MissConductUS · 04/01/2021 18:06

Good to see you again @Weloveoptimus. Do you still have the festive bambi duvet cover on your bed?

Eggy, what an odd coincidence that your DH's solution gets him out of childcare completely. I'm seriously considering a power nap myself.

DS and I just went and picked up lunch at the deli for us and DD. Pizza is on for tonight.

Silkiechickscat · 04/01/2021 18:26

Your role is definetely important EggNog

We also have been told children must be tested and isolate for every symptom under the sun including tiredness. 'The Trust is extending its definition of symptoms to include the following: fever; dry and/or persistent cough; tiredness; loss of taste or smell; aches and pains; headache; sore throat; nasal congestion; red eyes; diarrhoea or a skin rash. If your child experiences any of these symptoms, they must self-isolate and you must arrange for them to have a Covid-19 test.'

EggNogPegg · 04/01/2021 18:47

Thanks @Spudlet and @MissConductUS. When he got back with DS2, I told him that I was applying for the places. I didn't even open it up for discussion. He shrugged and said 'fair enough'. He's very decisive about things he feels strongly about. I think he didn't want to make this call. He is very supportive of me, but I spent a long time as a SAHM, and his job was able to take priority all of the time because I covered all childcare related things. As such, I think he still struggles a bit with the change in dynamic and knowing that my job is equally as important as his. He'd never admit that of course because I don't think he realises it himself.

When the schools changed to staggered drop offs so it became impossible for me to do as I need to be at work to receive my pupil, his first thought was for me to have someone cover me, or to pay for breakfast club. I refused to entertain the idea of cover and he decided that he didn't want to pay over £100 a month in breakfast club fees, so now he takes them every morning and still gets back in time for his 9am dial in. He takes time to adapt to change.

EggNogPegg · 04/01/2021 18:47

Thanks @Silkiechickscat!
