Good luck @sproutsandparsnips stay safe. I woke up late as alarm is stopping me about not having been used for two weeks but it’s an INSET so don’t have to be in as early as usual (luckily)

Sunbird24 · 04/01/2021 07:12

I’ve been awake a few times in the night too, so not going into the office this morning looking bright-eyed and bushy-tailed as I’d hoped.

I also don’t like banana milkshake (or any smoothies containing even a hint of banana as that’s all I can bloody taste!)

Spudlet · 04/01/2021 07:25

Foxes love residential areas normally, all those bins! And if anyone keeps chickens they’ll eat any spilt food, the rats that chickens inevitably seem to attract and of course any chickens if they get the chance. The closest I’ve ever been to a fox was strolling down the street in Morden in broad daylight - I hear them screaming around here in the winter, but I’ve only seen one in 10+ years.

I’m job hunting as well @HeartsTrumpDiamonds, although I won’t be today as I’m being thrown back into homeschooling 🙈 Was up early today struggling to sleep for that very reason, so I got up and did some yoga, and realised how very unstretchy I’ve become since stopping practicing regularly. I really must try and fit a bit more in.

Frownette · 04/01/2021 07:38

Good luck @Spudlet and @HeartsTrumpDiamonds.

I'm still really bored here, can't do anything until IT call me, I sent a text yesterday saying I was getting into difficulty with new computer equipment. Can't even concentrate on watching something.

EggNogPegg · 04/01/2021 08:16

I grew up down the road from Morden, in Wimbledon. We saw foxes almost daily. The first time DH saw one when he came to stay he thought it was a dog and didn't believe me that it was a fox. My mother used to put dog food out for them, so it was no wonder we saw them regularly.

@Doublechins, ack no, the thought makes me heave. Supernoodle sandwiches. That's the hangover food of dreams.

sueelleker · 04/01/2021 09:14

I'd just finished the washing yesterday, and DDog came in from the garden and walked muddy feet all over the clean trousers I'd just put on. So I had to wash those as well.

Champagneforeveryone · 04/01/2021 10:26

I've done the food shop and put it away, picked up the logs and we have taken the decorations down already today.

ChampagneCat is rather vexed at the lack of lights and dangly objects, but is consoling herself with a spot of cat tv watching the bird feeder.

Squirrel26 · 04/01/2021 10:39

I lived in Tooting when I was a student and we had a family of fox cubs living in the back garden. the back garden may have been a little overgrown. I saw one round here the other day, crossing the road in the dark.

I like banana flavoured things, but not actual bananas. I wish I did, other people are so smug about them. ‘Oh yes, I’m just having a delicious BANANA. They are so good for you, so much potassium. So CONVENIENT.’ ‘I just pop a lovely BANANA in my bag and I’m set till LUNCH TIME!’

Frownette · 04/01/2021 10:43

So themes for today are bananas and foxes Grin

What's everyone's favourite milkshake? If it's got ice cream in it I like vanilla, without ice cream then strawberry. @Squirrel26 I like actual bananas!

I'm going out shortly so might have a quick look to see if fox has been removed.

Champagneforeveryone · 04/01/2021 10:49

Right....
On the subject of bananas, a big fan but only between being green and being spotty.

On foxes, we live rurally and rarely see them. Sometimes see them when I'm driving home at night but otherwise an almost fox free zone. When I lived in London they were everywhere. On a slightly related note I'm listening to The Thursday Murder Club and there's mention of a fox called Scargill, which pleased me greatly.

Taswama · 04/01/2021 11:07

I was going to tell you that I used to love vanilla milkshake at McDs as a teenager, I was a vegetarian then, so not many options.

But the fox called Scargill makes me want to share that I'm currently reading GB84 , a novel about the miners strike, with one of the characters being 'the President' or 'old king coal' aka Arthur Scargill.

Frownette · 04/01/2021 11:20

Is the book good? Blast from the past hearing the name Scargill.

I've got a book here called Tiger, about a primatologist and an injured tiger.

Foxy is gone, wonder if it was the same one who kept waking me up at nights. I suppose the council deal with things like that?

EggNogPegg · 04/01/2021 11:33

I like actual bananas and strawberries, but I don't like flavoured things of either of those things. Conversely, I hate coffee (though I like the smell of roasted beans), but I like coffee flavored things, such as the aforementioned chocolates, and coffee and walnut cake. My favourite milkshake is chocolate.

@Frownette. Yes the council will deal with it if they're notified. I once rang them to notify them of a large deer on the side of the road. It had been hit by a car and was sadly missing it's head. It was gone when I went back that way later that afternoon.

@Squirrel26. My DH hates bananas too. And my friend once refused to let me in her car until I'd eaten the one I'd grabbed on the way out of the house. She cant bear even the smell of them. But then would eat Pepperami and Brie in the car which are far more stinky.

soddingkitten · 04/01/2021 12:27

My dull news is that the printer in my office died over the Christmas break and needs an engineer. It’s causing logistical problems with urgent printing. A colleague in another part of the building did some for me earlier but is in so sporadically, I can’t rely on him.

One of our office plants died over Christmas too, even though I watered it on 18th. Good! It annoyed me because it was spindly and sickly looking. I’ve been watering it regularly since last March for my WFH colleague whilst deriving no enjoyment from it.

Frownette · 04/01/2021 12:30

@soddingkitten Prince Charles would say it's because it has no-one to talk to!

Hope engineer is there soon.

Raera · 04/01/2021 13:16

I am here to report that adding fresh spinach to lasagne makes no change to the taste whatsoever. However I was almost able to convince myself that I was actually eating a healthy meal.
I'm in the same camp as some others - love fresh bananas but anything banana flavoured is really horrid

Frownette · 04/01/2021 13:17

Dammit, IT got back and said they can't help til tomorrow afternoon. I have nothing to do until then.

I have paperwork and housework but don't feel like it

I suppose I'll either be on here or reading or watching something til then.

I think I've regressed into being a teenager.

MissConductUS · 04/01/2021 13:23

Good day, lovely people of the thread.

The snow turned out to be pretty minor. A lot of it must have melted when it hit the driveway. Instead of running, I shoveled it off and cleaned off the older car we park out there while everyone else was sleeping. As a result, I'm way behind on closing my activity rings for the day. It's supposed to warm up later so perhaps I'll take a walk at some point.

I am not a huge fan of bananas but we used to keep them in the house for the kids. The kids have outgrown them too. I still have one of those hanging racks that suspend them above the counter to prevent bruising.

We have lots of foxes hereabouts. I see them fairly regularly when I run. I suspect that some of the cats killed outdoors here died in fights with them since they are more numerous than the coyotes.

My favorite milk shake is chocolate, but I must admit that Shake Shack (do you have them in the UK?) makes a really good Oreo one as well.

Not much going on here. DC are still in bed, DH is going to work from home for at least the morning and I'll make some chocolate chip pancakes later as we're completely out, which makes DS a bit unhappy.

Technology that doesn't work is so annoying and frustrating @soddingkitten! I hope the printer gets sorted out soon.

Bananas... I can take them or leave them really. I do love banana bread though. Banana-flavoured things like milkshakes are a no-go for me too.

Milkshakes... probably chocolate!

Foxes... we most definitely have foxes around here, a residential area of a big city. We back onto a ravine so we get a lot of wildlife, including coyotes. I often wonder how the two co-exist. Also, when we lived in London we had a lot of foxes. I worked at a school and this one time a poor fox got caught in the netting of one of the football goals. It was so twisted up in it that it almost lost a leg. The school caretaker managed to free it and the fox ran off, limping. I hope it survived. A lot of the younger girls ( it was a girls' school) were quite traumatised by the whole thing.

Squirrel26 · 04/01/2021 13:29

Requested a call with my mortgage advisor.
Exhausted by all of this adulting.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 04/01/2021 13:31

@Frownette thank you!

@Spudlet good luck with your own job search. I hope we both find something good soon.

halfpasteleven · 04/01/2021 13:40

Shepherds pie on, washing on, fire supplies are in for the evening. DP is back to work this eve so it will be just me and the DC and I want us to be cosy.

I hate anything banana flavoured, however I love bananas on toast.

We do have foxes around here- we live rurally but not too far from a city so they pop up every now and again.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 04/01/2021 13:56

Oooh halfpasteleven bananas on toast! Have you ever tried adding peanut butter? I know now what I am having for breakfast!

MissConductUS · 04/01/2021 13:58

@Frownette - is there only one printer in your office you have access to? At mine I can print a document and then pick it up at any printer/copier in the building.

Years ago we bought an HP multifunction printer. It prints, scans to PDF, faxes and copies. We got it initially for the DC to use for school work but it has been invaluable for wfh and scanning and sending things for insurance, medical forms, etc. It's probably 8 years old now and we've never had the slightest problem with it.

@Squirrel26 - are you buying a property or refinancing a mortgage? Those are both really adult things to do. Smile

@Raera I'm not surprised. Spinach has a subtle flavor, but will up the nutritional value quite a bit. Thanks for reporting back.

The best thing with bananas is from the chip shop with syrup, with clotted cream. I go weak at the knees for it.
