Hi @Doublechins I am a relative newcomer to this thread but welcome. It's very calm around here which I love. Everyone is so kind.

Well done on getting your Xmas things put away. You are way ahead of me - I still need to tidy up all the gift bags and wrapping paper (sitting neatly out of my line of sight behind the tree) and put them away. We have decided to keep the tree up until next weekend. And we will be leaving up our exterior lights for the foreseeable future because they are cheerful and a lot of people here (Toronto 🇨🇦) are doing the same!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 03/01/2021 22:18

Now see that CA showed up as a like Canadian flag when I typed my post!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 03/01/2021 22:18

*a LITTLE Canadian flag.

FFS autocorrect.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 03/01/2021 22:20

DS is still working.....

MissConductUS · 03/01/2021 22:37

Welcome @Doublechins and thanks for joining us. This thread is a little island of calm and support floating on the tempest of MN.

Hearts, are you getting unemployment benefits?

EggNogPegg · 03/01/2021 22:51

This thread has been busy today. I've only just caught up.

Welcome all the newcomers, nice to have you here.

Regarding the eggnog conversation, I've never tried it, despite my user name. What does it taste like?

@Squirrel26, I'm 38 too. And already planning our retirement, which is many years away yet. I want us to retire to France. I'm trying to convince DH with the cheap wine. He isn't sold yet as he says the bacon is rubbish. But I have time to wear him down put the idea in his head and eventually he suggests it as if it was an independent thought (this is a tried and tested method).

The DC are back at school tomorrow. We have heard from both their school and mine. We will all be open. I have a TD day tomorrow, and the first thing on the agenda is to discuss all this new stuff. I should still be done by about 11 though and will spend the rest of the day working on my assignment.

I am going to bed shortly to attempt to regulate my sleep pattern. No-one woke up until 0830 this morning which wasn't ideal as DS1 had rugby at 0930. He had a marvellous time sliding about in the mud and then we got a McDonald's breakfast for him, DS2 and DH on the way home. We ended up parking in the Sainsbury's next door and walking over to McDonald's as the queue for the drive through was so long we'd not have made it before the cut off (we parked at 10.44).

Sunbird24 · 03/01/2021 23:00

@EggNogPegg that’s not the Chippenham one is it? The queuing on the roundabout there is horrendous!

Silkiechickscat · 03/01/2021 23:08

It's been a while since I had eggnog but from what I remember it was a milky drink with nutmeg flavour. If you like milk drinks you'ld probably like it, if you don't then probably not.

MissConductUS · 03/01/2021 23:20

It's made with cream, egg yolks and sugar. Very sweet and creamy, and usually lightly spiced with nutmeg and cinnamon. It's delicious but a bit heavy.

By the way, one of the things I love about this thread is the diversity of ages, from young mums with toddlers to older mums with kids grown and flown, or in-flight in my case. Grin

DD had her last shift at the bakery cafe today and has two weeks before we take her to uni. She's cutting up the company t-shirts they gave her to use as rags.

The driveway is snow-covered and DH has moved the snowblower to the front of the garage for easier access in the morning.

That's the one. A few weeks ago DH tried to go there and ended up driving to the Melksham one instead, the queue was so bad.

You must be very local to me if you're familiar with that roundabout.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 04/01/2021 01:19

Egg nog with brandy or rum tastes just like Advocaat and has similar ingredients. Homemade is obviously best but the shops here sell it (non-alcoholised) throughout the holidays. My teenage DDs love the stuff and DH and I drink it with a tot of spiced rum in it.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 04/01/2021 01:23

MissC I haven't really worked in Canada since we moved back from the UK in 2016 so no unemployment benefits for me unfortunately. The last time I worked here was 1996 (I was 26) before I left for my world adventures, starting in Budapest. I was supposed to be there for a 2 year contract, come home and marry a very unsuitable bloke. 20 years later I really did come back, having picked up my now DH and two DDs along the way Grin

Champagneforeveryone · 04/01/2021 03:28

Counting down to rest days, though only 3 this set due due a training day

Grand plans afoot however, making the most of tier 3 restrictions. I plan to hurl myself (in a Covid safe fashion) at the feet of my hairdresser. He only works 2 days a week and my shifts often don't coincide with them. Throw in Christmas and new year and I'm almost back to lockdown hair the first time round.

Frownette · 04/01/2021 04:14

Yes I have heard they're considering another lockdown for a few months.

I think my fox may have died, I overheard passersby yesterday, a man said "there's a dead fox there" and a woman replied "I've seen it, it's horrible". I was telling my neighbour this and he said he'd seen the fox and I asked if it was small but he said it was a large one.

I always wondered what it ate anyway as this area is residential.

halfpasteleven · 04/01/2021 05:14

This thread really does move quickly!
Just giving DD her bottle.
Good luck to everyone returning to work tomorrow. I'm not back until the 18th- job sharing.. I realise how lucky I am as I type that date.

We took our tree and decorations down today. I thought we had everything put away until next year until I discovered some cards in our bedroom so that's another trip to the attic tomorrow.
It's very frosty here tonight. It was a bright cold day yesterday and we (me and DD in her buggy) went for a walk but only for 30 mins as the roads and paths were too slippy.
@Prokupatuscrakedatus that's a lot of work your DS is putting in! I wish him (and you) well.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 04/01/2021 05:47

Good morning, preparing for my first day back at work.

Silkiechickscat · 04/01/2021 06:01

Good morning though not been to sleep yet! Just ordered things for DS's birthday - he couldn't come up with any ideas and was meh about money so I've gone for all things fluffy and hope it works.

Got a message from his primary headteacher and it asked if in future he wanted to work with chickens. He said no and that he didn't know what he wanted to do other than exist. I suggested banking - maybe - a politician - no, only if I can set all the rules and have total control over them and you can't do that here (appears to want to be a dictator) or farming - no.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 04/01/2021 06:10

halfpast Thank you!
He yesterday admitted that it is due today and not finished.
He is already up deadline is at 12.

The snow is gone.

Silkiechickscat · 04/01/2021 06:27

DD has seen me twice in the night - first time at 2,45am she declares she needs a meal and proceeds to cook and eat one whilst waffling to me. I point out DH is trying to sleep.

Now DD just been to see me again - this time she says she's going running now. I point out its pitch dark. She says it will be light by 6.30am then says oh no it won't and no school so I could run during PE lessons. I said much better idea.

sproutsandparsnips · 04/01/2021 06:29

Good morning, just off to do an extra shift in our beleaguered local hospital.
Can't wait to get home already. Though no idea what DH will cook for tea......

Frownette · 04/01/2021 06:46

Silkie I've been up most of the night too.

I'm quite bored now! Might go for another cup of tea.

EggNogPegg · 04/01/2021 06:48

Thanks for the eggnog replies. I don't like particularly like milk, so I'm not sure I'd like it. I do like Bailey's and milkshakes (but not banana milkshakes, they are the food of the devil).

Good luck to your DS and his deadline Prok.

@Silkiechickscat, I was considering a morning run. Then decided it would be more pleasant (and warm) later on when it's light, so I'll go later.

I didn't manage to get early night as I wasn't tired. But I'm up (and yawning) and hoping that an early morning will reset my body clock.

Frownette · 04/01/2021 06:50

@EggNogPegg I love milkshakes. If you're near a Morrison's they do a gorgeous powdered strawberry one with added D3

Doublechins · 04/01/2021 06:52

McDonald's banana milkshakes have helped me through many a hangover eggnog 🤣

I was awake before my alarm and have spent over an hour just standing in the kitchen messing about on my phone. I usually like to be dressed before I wake the small people but that's obviously not happening this morning 🥱
