I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

It snowed this afternoon. I took my daughter's dog for a walk in it - she was as enthusiastic as usual.
Made home-made sausage rolls for tea (I put a layer of chutney & cheddar in them) but I had a small salmon fillet & veg. I wasn't envious at all Hmm.

Spudlet · 02/01/2021 19:39

@Squirrel26 I recommend Gumleaf wellies! They are a bit pricey but mine have lasted for four years so far and counting, they are neoprene so toasty warm, and have pretty good grip. I wear them pretty much every day in the winter too.

Silkiechickscat · 02/01/2021 19:46

Prok DS would be in heaven with gigantic chickens and red squirrels - he often watched a YouTube video of a massive chicken, looks about 1 metre tall and giggles and anything with a fluffy tail / fluff he worships.

QuestionableMouse · 02/01/2021 20:17

Might be too exciting for the thread but I have a Braun IPL machine coming tomorrow. I can't wait to try it - really sick of both my chin hairs and shaving my armpits. Tend to leave my legs hairy but I'll do those too. 😃

Sunbird24 · 02/01/2021 20:49

Ooh @QuestionableMouse you’ve reminded me I need to do my legs and things (no chin hairs yet touch wood but plenty elsewhere)

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 02/01/2021 20:54

@Silkiechickscat
DH was there in the summer and tried to take cute little fotos for us, but all he got were empty running wheels, empty feeding places and the occasional tip of a tail. They are soooo fast.
Here are some squirrel pictures

Good timing then 😊

Which do you have? I'm sick of pcos related facial hair and it was half price so figured it's worth a try. I also have a weird bit in my armpit where the hairs grow in the wrong direction that's a bugger to shave 😂😂

I bought a Philips Lumea a couple of years ago when it was less than half price, it’s fantastic on my bikini line but I struggle with my legs as the hairs there are much lighter. Nobody ever tells you about how much extra hair you get as you get older do they?? 🥸
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 02/01/2021 21:11

But I have noticed that they grow exactly in the same spots they used to grow on my mother's chin. It's fate, I tell you! I've prepared DD.

MissConductUS · 02/01/2021 21:12

Welcome, @QuestionableMouse and thanks for your depilatory news!

I recognize your handle so I think we've been on threads together previously.

Picked up a DD at the airport earlier. After three circuits of the terminals I suspected she might have been waiting for me at Departures, and this proved to be the case.

We are planning to take down the Christmas tree tomorrow. It will need to be wrapped in a plastic drop cloth to take it out as it's become pretty dry and I want to avoid getting needles everywhere.

LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE · 02/01/2021 21:23

Mmmm. Sticky Toffee Pudding.

QuestionableMouse · 02/01/2021 21:25

Yep I've been lurking on this one but posted a lot before. Just hoping it works now I've finally taken the plunge.

On a semi hair related note, I need to put flea drops on my cat tomorrow.

Good news on sorting the bird feeder out @MissConductUS - whereabouts in the US are you? Photos of trees at the back of your garden looked lovely.
I put a couple of homemade fat balls out for the birds in November with DS, and realised today they are nearly gone! Really pleased as I didn't think the birds were interested.
Maybe they are just starving now.
Last night we listened to Mark kermode's podcast, on his best and worst films that were out in 2020 (via streaming, mostly). Found his 'worst film' options quite funny and decided to watch one tonight - 'Skyfire' - was worth the £5 rental fee - absolutely terrible disaster movie, fun at the same time, if you like that sort of thing.
Most of the dialogue is in Chinese so you do need the patience for subtitles.

QuestionableMouse · 02/01/2021 21:32

I've been putting nuts and squirrel mix out for the local squirrels. Grey, not red which is a shame but they've been really displaced by the new houses being built on the field where they used to live. Three big trees cut down and masses of old hawthorn hedge. ☹️

MissConductUS · 02/01/2021 21:36

There's nothing like a black cat with yellow eyes. I've had two and they were both sweeties. We're glad you're here and hope you stay. Smile

In other news, the septic tank bloke waste removal engineer showed up this afternoon and pumped out our tank. When the cats heard the pumping they assumed we were under terrorist attack and abandoned their cat dinner to teleport to another dimension. We booked it online with a credit card so no contact needed.

The men have decided to recreate our Christmas day dinner. So the chicken is in the oven. It's a Purdue Oven Stuffer Roaster for my fellow North Americans. There are enough leftover holiday mashed potatoes for us all and I have another package of microwave peas to serve, so it's a festive dinner chez Conduct.

@kittlesticks I'm north of New York City in an area called the Hudson Highlands:

Hudson Highlands

I'm not sure which pictures you saw but on the other side of my stone wall is a county nature preserve which we are mostly surrounded by. We get a lot of wildlife in the garden as a result.

Whereabouts in the UK are you?

I’ve got a Philips Lumea. I wish I’d bought it 5 years earlier before some of my chin hairs went grey. IPL doesn’t work on unpigmented or pale hair. At least they don’t show up so badly if I miss plucking them. My tip: buy one early on when your chin hairs first start sprouting and zap them in their infancy.

Dull, dull day here. I have low back pain from sitting on my backside so much over the last few days. 😔

We are down to the strawberry and orange cream Quality Streets. None of us like them. It’s like a game of chicken waiting to see who will crack first and eat them.

mathanxiety · 02/01/2021 21:54

Here is an article on red vs. grey squirrels and their favourite habitats which I hope won't be too interesting:

@mathanxiety
I think I can just about cope with it - I will take deep breaths. Thank you for the link!

QuestionableMouse · 02/01/2021 22:12

I love that. They're cute wee things and were looking a bit thin so I felt sorry for them.

Yes, not sure why black cats are so over looked. I think they're absolutely wonderful. She's very opinionated but such a lovely character.

I'm in County Durham. Fairly rural and absolutely beautiful.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 02/01/2021 22:19

Our squirrels around here are absolute little fatsos ready for the winter.

I've been washing sheets, watering plants and generally pottering around today but now lying in the sofa after shovelling the walk and the sidewalk pavement.

@soddingkitten I will gladly take your orange and strawberry Quality Street off your hands! They are my favourites! Our tin has a lot of blue and green ones left Grin

Nydj · 02/01/2021 22:28

Squirrel talk is lovely and brings me full circle as one of my first posts on these threads, if not the very first one, was in response to someone else posting about red squirrels. We only get grey ones round here.

I have finally persuaded DH that we can have a bird feeder without encouraging rats and grey squirrels by showing him those ones that shut access to the food if anything heavier than a very small bird lands on it. He bought me one for Christmas and we are waiting for the catcher of the spilled bird food to be in stock which will can buy and put under the feeder and then I too will have a bird feeder - hooray!

Nydj · 02/01/2021 22:29

Sorry, I don’t know what came over me - that was a bit exciting for me 😐

Unbelievable! The blue ones go first here, the green ones shortly after.
