Anyone else have a bad year for presents?

Or is it just me?

I can't complain, my haul was A+. Only one ugly jumper that I will probably return. Sorry, OP.

IsItJustMeOrIsIt · 25/12/2020 16:51

I've had a few lovely years like that, but everything this year was just bad. I'm glad you had a good year though Flowers

Why was it bad? Did you not get what you wanted?

MoiraNotRuby · 25/12/2020 16:56

DH and I agreed not to do presents this year, so I haven't had many things. I did keep saying I'd like bubble bath whenever the kids asked. DD sent DH shopping for her (due to covid) and very thoughtfully told him what brand I like, he got 2 bottles of their shower gel. Which is NOT THE SAME as bubble bath and I feel far too bothered about this. Angry

Mine wasn’t ‘bad’ but I only had 1 present (single parent) and my son noticed for the first time ever and was a bit upset. I am taking this a sign I have to buy myself some awesome stuff next year and wrap it up under the tree! (And I’m proud he is a caring boy, so I can’t really complain!)

Do you do a Christmas elf? I saw a lovely idea for single parents where the elf left the child some small gifts for the parent, wrapping paper & sellotape etc with a little note that it was a secret challenge to wrap them & put them under the tree to give their parent on Christmas Day. Not a fan of elf on the shelf per se but thought it was nice way for the child to feel like they were involved in gifting until they're big enough to shop for themselves?

We mostly get each other what we ask for but

  • some really thoughtful things in my stocking and dh and dds had all contributed to it (dd1 was doing mine)
  • a beautiful anthropologie mug from dd2 from my Christmas list that is going to live on my desk so it doesn't get chipped.
  • again from my list, but dh got me the one and only perfume I like and wore on my wedding day
  • a beautiful pendant dd1 got me, in a style she wears too which makes me love it.

The exact same thing happened to me last year and my daughter was upset. This year I treated myself this year and wrapped them up in the same Father Christmas wrapping paper. And I loved everything 😆
SnailortheWhale · 25/12/2020 17:21

@Musicalmistress that’s an absolutely lovely idea Wink

SnailortheWhale · 25/12/2020 17:21

Sorry didn’t mean to wink Smile

BillysMyBunny · 25/12/2020 17:23

I haven’t had a single present, my plans had to change after new guidance last weekend and I’m spending this Christmas alone. I don’t usually get loads of gifts but most years have at least a few do definitely a bad year to have literally nothing.

Bluewavescrashing · 25/12/2020 17:26

I did really well this year but other years have been shite. I must have trained DH over the years.

Plonque · 25/12/2020 17:28

Dh gave me two things I'd recently bought for myself in the sales. And so far hasn't offered to reimburse me for them. So I'm out of pocket for everything I bought for him AND myself.

wrigglewriggles · 25/12/2020 17:28

Living with my ex until can sell house.
He got me my only gift this year (I do have some from family that are yet to arrive in the post) a bloody Gillette Venus shaving gift set - limited edition apparently. Even one of my kids said "I'm glad I'm not you"
Truly wish he hadn't bothered as just felt insulting.

Christmasfairy2020 · 25/12/2020 17:37

I got towels and bedding a new bag and electric tooth brush clothing of husband

I'm very happy as I picked and asked for exactly what I got lol. Inlaw got me a lovely purse with 21 quid in Grin I also got 2 lovely yankee candles and a fluffy dressing gown

Christmasfairy2020 · 25/12/2020 17:38

@wrigglewriggles I'd be very happy with this Confused I tend to use husbands razor so the Harry's one he has got from me today is shared Xmas Grin

frumpety · 25/12/2020 17:43

I ask for one thing every year , it is cheap enough, easily accessible , you can buy from any supermarket or even a lot of petrol stations and gives me a lot of pleasure. I am someone who rarely buys for themselves and this gives me the opportunity to do that without any guilt.
What did I get instead ? Alcohol , lots of it , from a DH who has bitched and moaned about my drinking for the last six months. Yay !

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 25/12/2020 17:51

I had the opposite this year. I have been spoilt rotten. Lots of Lancôme perfume and skin products, LOccitane, Elemis (which I’m so very happy with) and caudalie. Oh and some big Neom candles.

Dillo10 · 25/12/2020 18:04

My mum was supposed to buy me something specific but now she's just transferring me money...
No idea when Secret Santa between siblings will be exchanged
Got a bayliss and Harding gift set, and a candle from in-laws
DH got me nothing, which we did agree to but I'm 6 months pregnant so I thought he might get me a cute card (I got him one) but he didn't
So overall... Pretty shit

TeaAndBisquits · 25/12/2020 18:16

I'm disappointed this year. We said we'd give the kids £20 for them to get us something each (as in they'd tell me what they wanted to get SH and they'd tell him what they wanted to get me) We never usually bother with gifts for us but not the children are getting older, we wanted to show them it was about giving, not just receiving.

I got nothing. I think he forgot. He then said that he wanted to get me a subscription to an app I have and couldn't set it up on my behalf as it needed to be on my device, but I already have the app and have been using it for 2 months!

I just feel a bit left out and a bit of an after thought.

jess3817 · 25/12/2020 19:25

I'm really happy with what I got - a new yoga mat, chest light for running in the dark with, chocolate and some non alcoholic Gin and other af drinks.

Did either of you keep the reciepts so you can just return them? If you brought a jumper in the sale and then he brought the same one, I'm not sure he should be paying for the one he brought and the one you brought?
Paddingtonthebear · 25/12/2020 19:31

Literally nothing here from anyone except a food item from parent that I dont even eat Xmas HmmConfused
