Fuck, missed Xmas delivery cutoff

TheWeightOfWords · 21/12/2020 01:58

Missed the bleeding food delivery cut off at 10pm last night. I'm trying to isolate before seeing grieving 90 year old DM on Christmas day. I'm an idiot. In my defense (defence?) , I have a lot going on.

Has anyone any ideas where I can buy stuff online? I was thinking niche places. Or any places.

Sainsbury’s do a one hour service through their Chop Chop app. Up to 25 items. I think they use Deliveroo or similar.

BoringBettie · 21/12/2020 03:22

Oh and forgot to mention in my previous post that Aldi is on deliveroo now as well!

Backofthenet20 · 21/12/2020 03:22

You could try Ocado.

AwkwardAsAllGetout · 21/12/2020 03:23

Thanks to this thread I just checked and managed to get an Ocado slot for Wednesday after days of no slots being available. We’re isolating due to positive tests so this will be a real help.

LocaNel · 21/12/2020 03:23

Agree with other posters that this is a job for those community volunteers who signed up at the start of the first lockdown. My daughter was checking our local one to see if anyone needed anything and she said it was full of people ready and available to do anything to help out. It seemed to her as if there was nothing for them to do.
Yours is just the kind of situation they'd be good for. Best of luck op.

AwkwardAsAllGetout · 21/12/2020 03:25

I will say minimum spend was £90 and I had to pay £9.99 delivery which hurts a bit as I have a smart pass so delivery is usually free. I bulked up the shopping with stuff we’ll need like batteries and a giant box of washing powder to meet the minimum spend. Seemed a better idea than £30 worth of chocolate Grin

garlictwist · 21/12/2020 03:27

Sainsbury's chop chop app delivers food to you within the hour. Minimum spend £15.

garlictwist · 21/12/2020 03:28

Oh yes and co op does it too.

TheWeightOfWords · 21/12/2020 03:46

@AwkwardAsAllGetout I'm glad my incompetence has at least helped you out!

Thanks so much everyone - working through all these ideas still. I thought we were in a reasonably accessible area, but not close enough for Amazon same day etc.

Iceland are releasing more and more slots every day.

Could you also look at click and collect? Just rock up with the boot open & limit exposure?

Mummyoflittledragon · 21/12/2020 04:11

Does your area have a local Facebook page? I think I’d appeal on that to your neighbours. Idk about where you live but in my village, you’d probably be inundated with help.

80sColourfulChristmas · 21/12/2020 04:15

@yorkshirepuddddiiing

I know you said you're isolating, but could you go to a supermarket as early as physically possible, dash around and get out of there ASAP? My local Asda is open 24 hours so I could go now if I wanted!

I doubt you will find an online slot now and tbh I wouldn't trust it for Christmas dinner anyway, you only get what's available on the day and there's always stories about missing turkeys and potatoes!

NO supermarkets are 24 hours on a Sunday evening. They HAVE to close at 4 by law. They're 24 hours from Monday 7am until Saturday 10pm
thalassoma · 21/12/2020 04:24

With Tesco only the Festive Food to order had to be ordered by the 14th Dec. You should still be able to add a turkey etc. from the standard shop floor range up until the night before your ddelivery.

sashh · 21/12/2020 04:30

Try Iceland again, they only allow you to book one delivery and they release slots about 11.00 am.

Phone local shops, butcher, green grocer etc and ask if they can deliver. If they can't ask if you can park outside and have them put the food directly into the car boot, have cash in an envelope to pay. Then you onley need to pass the envelope through a mostly closed window.

Thehollyandtheirony · 21/12/2020 04:30

@TheWeightOfWords Magnificent Marrow deliver nationwide and they are still taking Christmas orders.

safariboot · 21/12/2020 04:31

Can you get a Morrisons box? The festive feast is showing out of stock but if it's just for two you could possibly get one or two of the others and make something alright.

Redglitter · 21/12/2020 04:38

Had a Tesco slot too but fricking Tesco changed the rules and you have to order your slot in November and confim items by 14 December

You can still change your Christmas orders up to the day before just like normal orders

TheWeightOfWords · 21/12/2020 04:38

I'VE GOT A SLOT!! GrinGrinGrin

Waitrose and miles away, but it's fine!

Thanks so much everyone!

But my slot's not showing any more.

Not true. The mega Tesco near here opened at 00.01 this morning. Many others will also have done. Plus in Scotland, any supermarket can open 24/7 if it chooses to.

I agree OP, I'd just go to a supermarket at about 5-6 am, stay apart from other people and wash your hands when you return home.

Even though we have the mutated virus and it's all going to shit again the reality is that 99% of people don't have it and when they do, it's close contact in homes, schools and workplaces that's spreading it. Not supermarket shopping.

TheWeightOfWords · 21/12/2020 04:40

@Thehollyandtheirony they look amazing

Aww thats great news

BikeRunSki · 21/12/2020 04:45

Look up “Wellocks” and “Delifresh”. They are catering companies that have started doing domestic deliveries . Obvs, they may not have any slots, but worth looking.

BikeRunSki · 21/12/2020 04:47

Sorry, I’ve seen you’ve got Waitrose sorted. Excellent.

laramacleopardprint · 21/12/2020 04:47

Great you got a waitrose slot. I went into local garage which has m&s service station. They were selling roast turkey joints for 6-8 people, roast potatoes, parsnips, stuffing, the lot.
