Fuck, missed Xmas delivery cutoff

Missed the bleeding food delivery cut off at 10pm last night. I'm trying to isolate before seeing grieving 90 year old DM on Christmas day. I'm an idiot. In my defense (defence?) , I have a lot going on.

Has anyone any ideas where I can buy stuff online? I was thinking niche places. Or any places.

Woohoo well done!
I’ve only used them for sending flowers and cakes to friends in the early days when that’s all they offered but they were always very well received. They’ve expanded a lot now and their selection looks great. I’m not in the UK so I can’t test it out.

StarlightLady · 21/12/2020 05:00

Some areas offer Waitrose Rapid. Google Waitrose rapid as opposed to the regular Waitrose site.

Smaller selection and small delivery charge but it might get you out of a hole.

Mummyoflittledragon · 21/12/2020 05:20

Phew what a relief for you!

Pumpertrumper · 21/12/2020 05:22

We are doing a 6am run today. Me, DH and baby DS. (DH has a bad arm and I’m pregnant so neither of us are up to doing the full £200+ Christmas shop for 6 adults alone) I was desperate to get a slot to avoid going but non at all! No deliver or click and collect at any supermarket in our city! Nightmare.

Some people seem to have much better slot availability so it’s gonna depend on where you are in the country. I empathise massively OP.

Frostythesnowman29 · 21/12/2020 05:43

If you have a Morrison’s nearby, they do food boxes. Might be worth a look! It’s separate from their usual online orders

Fbtw · 21/12/2020 06:28

If this helps anyone, my local spar which 8s a good size, delivers via an app called Appetite. They have a few local shops on it and I’m rural so don’t know if it’s just here but might be worth a shot.

Glad you got sorted though op.

middleager · 21/12/2020 06:38

Milk & more?

Shitonthebloodything · 21/12/2020 06:39

Do you have any local mutual aid FB groups? They're a lifeline for lots of people. If you put a post on explaining then someone will offer to help or local businesses will offer a delivery. Otherwise local shops often deliver in these circs if you contact them.
You're not alone in this, there is help don't panic Flowers

Gingerkittykat · 21/12/2020 06:51

I've found going to the supermarket and being there when the doors open at 7am means it is practically open. It's Asda I use, a smaller one which is not 24 hours. There's always a couple of people waiting at the door at 7am but by about 7.30-8am it starts filling up.

dancingthroughthedark · 21/12/2020 07:23

I hadn't been able to get a delivery slot with Tesco in weeks. Logged on late Friday night to look and found several for Saturday evening. Out of interest checked last night and found several for today, so would recommend checking in the late evening if anyone is still looking.

soloedition · 21/12/2020 07:24

Beelivery? But expensive but might be worth considering

hellolittlebaby · 21/12/2020 07:25

FYI for anybody else, don't disregard Iceland. They always have loads of slots, offer free next day delivery if you spend £35+ and their food is pretty good these days. We live near one so always end up getting stuff from there. Some of it is easily on a par with what we get from tesco and Sainsbury's. They sell fresh, tins etc as well as frozen.

Blimeyoreilly2020 · 21/12/2020 07:27

Phone round your local independent shops (butcher/greengrocer if you have them nearby) to see if any will deliver? Or lots of farm shops are doing collection (so you can just drive in to pick up without coming into contact with anyone). Failing that can you ask on a local neighbourhood online board like Nextdooor?

Sevensilverrings · 21/12/2020 07:28

Google Greendale Farm shop.
It’s in Devon, but the deliver nationally packed in cold bags, so can get everything from milk to your Turkey. (Not sure what Christmas order meat they have left).
Quality is lovely. Bit pricey though!
You could also ask friends if you can piggyback on their supermarket order maybe?
Good luck.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 21/12/2020 07:28

I bulked up the shopping with stuff we’ll need like batteries and a giant box of washing powder to meet the minimum spend. Seemed a better idea than £30 worth of chocolate Grin

What sort of sick thinking is that? Grin Grin Grin

ThelmaNotLouise · 21/12/2020 07:29

If you have a community FB page, they might have volunteers who are doing Xmas shopping for people isolating. Failing that, find the biggest supermarket nearest to you that's open 24/7 and set your alarm for 3am – I doubt there will be many people up then and you should be able to whizz round quickly with minimal fuss/contact. I've just got back from doing our food shop as soon as the doors opened at 6am and it was relatively quiet, so 3am should be fine! I also used the self-scan device so I didn't have to go through a checkout.

Blimeyoreilly2020 · 21/12/2020 07:30

Just seen you got a slot👍

EmmaGrundyForPM · 21/12/2020 07:30

OP I know you're sorted now, but if anyone else is in the same position, it's worth checking all supermarket slots. We had one for Waitrose yesterday but I cancelled it as our Christmas plans have changed. Lots of people will be doing the same

tiredvommachine · 21/12/2020 07:32

I know you're sorted OP but for anyone else, try M&S too as an option, they've got collection slots according to MIL.

newlabelwriter · 21/12/2020 07:33

rapid.waitrose.com/ - if you’re near a Waitrose or Co-op also do a same day delivery too

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 21/12/2020 07:35

Some local Co-ops are doing same-day deliveries. Try coop.co.uk
Good luck.

Little local shops have saved me. I rang round our local butchers as the BoJo briefing was going on and eventually found a turkey.

No way am I standing in the rain for an hour just to get into my local supermarket.

DivGirl · 21/12/2020 07:45

NO supermarkets are 24 hours on a Sunday evening. They HAVE to close at 4 by law. They're 24 hours from Monday 7am until Saturday 10pm

Laughs in Scottish.

MellowYellow101 · 21/12/2020 07:50

Do you have anyone within your community that is helping those who are isolating? Reach out to them.

Alternatively do you have a friend / family member who will brave the shops for you?

Are morrisons still doing those boxes?

Choose your timing, likely to be quiter at more antisocial hours like midnight (although i would prefer to be asleep then!)
