My daughter always stinks of BO!

My dd13 suffers with really bad BO. She had a shower this morning and has had to have another. It’s so bad it goes through her shirt onto her school blazer. We’ve tried mitchim (?) and it was working but doesn’t seem to anymore. We are currently using a spray (can’t remember name but something like sure).

It’s so bad and she says she washes properly. She’s in there long enough!

We originally caught her wearing a scabby bra that I thought I had thrown away that absolutely stunk!

It’s been thrown away now.

I had to wash her coat yesterday bevause it stunk so bad.

It’s driving me insane!

What can I do?

Get some Sure Maximum, its £3.50 in Tesco & Boots, £5 in other places.

I was fine until I had DD, then it all went pear shaped bloody hormones

I found Sure eventually, after trying loads and I could wear the same top all week at work if I wanted to (I wouldnt!) but it stays that fresh.

My daughter always stinks of BO!

Is she changing her clothes often enough? School shirts need a wash in biological after every wear at this age. Her bras need changing more often too. Does she have enough?

sleepismysuperpower1 · 15/12/2020 16:54

Could you get her to start using these bars of deodorant soap to wash, and then get her a scent free men's deodorant (I find they work much better than womens)

If it persists after that, I might take her to the GP just to have a check up.

Thedarksideofthemoon30 · 15/12/2020 16:55

She has a clean shirt every day. She has constantly clean clothes on. Her shirts smell fine after they come out the wash.

I will try the sure! Thank you

If she's wearing a clean (washed in biological powder) shirt every day, washing properly, and using anti perspirant (I second the Sure recommendation) and is still having a problem, I would take her to the GP for a check up.

Get her to wash with soap not shower gel , any old bar of soap will do , simple , own brand whatever. ( not dove as it is not proper soap ) , and I echo biological washing powder after each wear .
She might need to start shaving her armpits , and use a roll on plus a spray .
Poor girl, hope she's not getting grief about it at school

Disfordarkchocolate · 15/12/2020 16:57

Definitely change to soap.

funfunfunfunfun · 15/12/2020 16:58

Is she sweating a lot? Does her shirts have any yellow marks under the armpits? During summer I sweat loads and it always showed under my arms so I used Perspirex on a night a couple of times a week and helped loads.

MumsDirtyTeaTowel · 15/12/2020 17:00

Same issue here, also 13.

She has mitchum, and she's atypical and has to be reminded to actually wash when in the shower, but it seems to be a mix of major hormones, not washing properly, and she wears the same hoodies over and over. We have to try and get hold of her tops every day to put in the wash. She doesn't appear to be able to smell it usually.

RisingSunn · 15/12/2020 17:00

Odaban is amazing much stronger than Mitchum etc. Spray at night and wash of in morning.

I think Boots stock it.

isthismylifenow · 15/12/2020 17:00

I found my dd had similar around they age, and dettol bar soap helped a lot. She only uses anti bac bar soap on her pits now and washes twiceand then uses a crystal stick deodorant.

FluffySocks75 · 15/12/2020 17:00

What do you wash clothes in? It doesn't matter if they smell clean straight after out wash. Need biological washing powder

LegoPandemic · 15/12/2020 17:03

Spray underarm areas of clothes with white vinegar before washing.
Wash with proper bar soap twice a day
Secret deodorant (fromUS/ Amazon) is brilliant.

MTwhyowhy · 15/12/2020 17:06

Wash pits with hibiscrub Daily to kill bacteria. Mitchum stick antiperspirant morning and night. Don't re-wear anything.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 15/12/2020 17:08

These articles are very useful. I suspect some of this is hormonal given her age. Also, is she stressed at school because that will affect her too as sweat produced when stressed comes from different glands and smells different.

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 15/12/2020 17:08

Is she scrubbing her armpits and under her boobs ?

Figuring that out pretty much sorted my dds paint melting pits overnight.......I also second mitchum. But the most crucial thing is actual pit washing

Flvq · 15/12/2020 17:08

Get anti bac washing stuff. Detail do some.

Flvq · 15/12/2020 17:08

Dettol

Aquamarine1029 · 15/12/2020 17:13

Is she shaving?

PassataQueenofBritain · 15/12/2020 17:15

Clean bra every day too! No point changing her shirt if her bra if grim.
I find my DD isn't keen on shaving her armpits...but every now and again I say she really must, because the antiperspirant just can't get through the hair to her skin.
She's pretty good at changing clothes every day, even if she'd rather avoid the shower...
Bar soap is probably better than shower gel too.

RatherBeRiding · 15/12/2020 17:18

You could try PitRok - its a crystal deodorant rather than an antiperspirant. Also she needs to shave her armpits if she doesn't already.

BlueThistles · 15/12/2020 17:20

great thread... my teen is similar OP.. she plays football too so her feet/shoes are bad too 🌺

AnathemaPulsifer · 15/12/2020 17:22

Use white vinegar instead of fabric softener on her clothes. I used to find that old stale sweat smells came out of my clothes as they warmed up, but not since I ditched the fabric softener.
