When I was a child they were just classes 1-9. Now they have cool and funky names. My kids' school names them after scientists. What are yours called?

Standard reception, 1, 2, 3 and so on. Only one class per year so no need for the teacher’s initial at the end.

EggNogPegg · 14/12/2020 23:29

School 1, authors, with authors relevant to their age group. Houses named after villages
School 2 (church school). Virtues. Hope, Faith etc

elQuintoConyo · 14/12/2020 23:29

Year 1 Twin Peaks
Year 2 Taxi
Year 3 Seinfeld
Year 4 Alf
Year 5 X-Files
Year 6 Sopranos

DS is very happy he's in X-Files, he'd love to be Fox Mulder.

DDs primary classes are named after birds.
The school teams (for house points and sports etc) are named after famous authors.

elliejjtiny · 15/12/2020 00:03

Primary school is plants for the infants and birds for the juniors.

Secondary is the year number, house initial letter and then the number 1 or 2.

I had no idea that so many primary school classes had names instead of numbers Blush

I must live in an unimaginative part of the world.

Colours. I didn't think it was that exciting until I realised the rooms have the same colour doors and carpet. It helps the little ones get back to the right room, which is cute.

I worked at a very small school with two classes “silver” and “gold”.
The school I work at now is a and b. So 1a and 1b etc. We have room names after oxford colleges (we are in Norfolk Confused) which used to double as class names but I couldn’t even tell you off the top of my head my room name this year! To be fair as we never see any other classes we don’t really use their names at the moment.

Birds.

I was in Doves, Falcons, Jays and Eagles.

Whydoelephants · 15/12/2020 07:25

Birds here

lollipoprainbow · 15/12/2020 07:26

Saints

MumaD · 15/12/2020 07:35

Birds and they start off small and get bigger as the years go up. And their houses are named after planets Smile

OohKittens · 15/12/2020 07:43

Beaches in the county

Forevercurious · 15/12/2020 07:47

The last school I worked in used tree names but the trees matched the teachers surname initial, for example Mr Oliver’s class was Oak, Miss William was Willow.

spikeyfish · 15/12/2020 07:48

Either a mythical creature or a star constellation.

ILikeStrongTea · 15/12/2020 07:50

Teachers initials and the year, very unexciting.

WheresMyAlex · 15/12/2020 07:51

Local street names

mamaduckbone · 15/12/2020 07:51

Birds...wagtails, woodpeckers etc

KipperTheFrog · 15/12/2020 07:55

Each year has a different theme, each year has 3 classes.
Reception- story characters
Year 1 - authors
Year 2 - explorers
Year 3 - athletes
Year 4 - artists
Year 5 - authors again
Year 6 - scientists

Respectabitch · 15/12/2020 07:55

Artists and scientists, and they make an effort to recognise artists and scientists who are female, Black, LBTQ, etc. I like it.

shallbe · 15/12/2020 07:56

I wish our school had names, ours is two form entry but none have names so you have to put the teachers' names down to identify the class when doing permission slips etc, most classes have two part time teachers so it's a pain in the arse. Never understood why they didn't just number them.

BikeRunSki · 15/12/2020 08:00

This year, artists.
DD is in Banksy class.

Last year it was Yorkshire athletes. DD was in Adams Class, DS was in Brownlee Class.

JingleJohnsJulie · 15/12/2020 08:05

Year number. It helps that there's only one class per year and makes it easier for the children and everyone else.

swampytiggaa · 15/12/2020 08:07

Birds that start with the initial of the teachers last name. Heavy emphasis on sea birds as we are coastal.

Houses are named after saints as its a church school.

Mycatismadeofstringcheese · 15/12/2020 08:09

I never understand this, why are parents upset by a teacher initial as their class name? What is there to be upset about?

Because some parents think that the initial is a value judgement, so If your child’s teacher was called Dickens and your child ended up in 4D, they wrongly assume that the other classes are 4A, 4B and 4C meaning their child is in the bottom set.
