... whilst waiting to see if the kids are or are not going to school next week and walking with imaginary cows.

Clockstop very much no.

I’ve just seen this about Wales and am confused. Firstly not clear if they will make it law.

Secondly- hospitality to shut from 6pm Xmas day, I thought it was shut already.

Maybe. You know how I grumbled about DD2's school closing two days early? Well, yesterday (the day that was the new last day) I collected her, shut the door behind us in our house and breathed a sigh of relief. 2 minutes later, I got a text saying 'Whoops, no, we are not allowed to do that so there is school tomorrow and Thursday" Hmm This is in a Labour Borough hence relevance to the post above.

rosettesforjill · 16/12/2020 13:44

You know, I think I would be a lot less pissed off about restrictions if everyone wasn't so bloody patronising about it all.

wanderings · 16/12/2020 14:15

So much for Wales's "firebreak" lockdown, (or was it circuit breaker?) Touted at the time as "the right thing to do", sanitary products fenced off, mountains of plastic waste, drooled over by the other half of Mumsnet... and are the Welsh any better off for it? Now they have measures of which Scrooge would be proud.

Iheartmysmart · 16/12/2020 14:24

Possibly being a bit dim here but has there been any proof that the lockdown Hokey Cokey has worked anywhere? Apart from obviously where people were welded in their homes or countries also closed their borders.
I don’t know the answer but surely if something isn’t really working you try another way, you don’t keep flogging a dead horse.

Blobby10 · 16/12/2020 14:30

And in the meantime, under the shelter of all these dramatic headlines, the vast majority of us will just plod on with our own, sensible, risk assessed Christmas plans, limiting our outings to essential ones and just getting on with it Grin

TabbyStar · 16/12/2020 14:45

We're a Tory area in tier 3. Next to a Labour city. I still remain v confused about whether there is a review happening!

Blobby10 · 16/12/2020 14:49

@TabbyStar I think we might be in the same county - does it start with L?! There has apparently been lobbying from the MPs in the North West of the county to move this area and the South of the county to Tier 2 but I can't see it happening. My own MP in the South has been very quiet but then he usually is unless its voting for his own payrise or for more houses to be built Angry

TabbyStar · 16/12/2020 14:51

Yes. The Times reported we were being split from the city but I don't know whether they'll still decide our hospital is too full, some paramedics said it's chaos there, though official figures seem to indicate capacity, so who knows?

Iheartmysmart · 16/12/2020 14:56

Our local hospital has 33 out of 400 beds occupied by Covid patients. Cases seem to be fluctuating according to the local paper but when I asked in the comments section for a bit of context as to positive tests in relation to the number carried I got called a COVID denier. Some people are positively desperate to go into tier 3.

No proof at all. They’ll just tell you how many people Neil Ferguson said would die without it.

Exactly. But it's impossible because people will just say 'ah but loads more would have died without lockdowns' and then you're stuck because you can't prove otherwise.

I still find it unbelievable that the whole world (near enough) jumped go follow China's lead. China! That country so well known for its good treatment of its citizens. Hmm

SirSamuelVimes · 16/12/2020 15:07

Cross posted Acorn!

Orangeblossom77777 · 16/12/2020 15:18

Our smallish hospital has around 100 covid patients and 300 staff off isolating or sick, we are tier 2 (likely to stay there it seems as cases in the community are staying the same / falling slightly)

I wonder if it is mainly spreading in the hospital therefore.

Iheartmysmart · 16/12/2020 15:22

Great minds think alike! Thanks both Smile

Iheartmysmart · 16/12/2020 15:59

Possibly Orange. That’s what I’m finding so frustrating, lack of clear information on where the virus is spreading. I don’t want complicated graphs presented by the Chuckle Brothers, just a simple daily dashboard published by the media of number of tests carried out, number of positive tests and where the spread is based. Enough of the scaremongering.

wanderings · 16/12/2020 16:04

So, BJ has (so far) decided to save face and not be Oliver Cromwell. I suppose we should be grateful for him "standing firm" on one "promise" he made, like he "just about" did with ending the November lockdown on 2nd December. I'm not optimistic about January though. Clinging on to a small hope that some politicians will be caught granny-hugging by the press, although like Scummings and Ferrier, it's likely to be a "can we please move on" whitewash.

As I say, bring on the public backlash, with business leaders hitting out at the government. It's soon time for Sunak to be desperately trying to plead for the public to put money in the treasury; will we see a revolt of some people refusing to pay tax this January?

ISaySteadyOn · 16/12/2020 16:25

I am sad. Again.
DD1 said eloquently 'I feel like I went to sleep in one world and woke up in another that I really don't want to be in and I can't get out' And she is so utterly unhappy and I can't do anything for her except love her. And, tbh, if I didn't have the DC and DH, I might seriously be exploring my options. But I need to keep them safe and as well as I can.

makingitupaswegoon · 16/12/2020 16:27

That's me unable to vote labour any more. Bloody keir starmer. I supported him too.

WouldBeGood · 16/12/2020 16:28

@makingitupaswegoon he’s proving a big disappointment

WouldBeGood · 16/12/2020 16:28

As Gary Neville said to him, the opposition is supposed to oppose, not abstain.

I suspect it is becoming a hospital acquired infection, much like MRSA did. Someone posted (maybe an earlier thread) that only 25% of covid infections are now caught in the community. The other 75% are all hospital/nursing home acquired.
Iheartmysmart · 16/12/2020 16:35

Wouldn’t surprise me. One of my grandparents went into our local hospital for a minor operation. Came out malnourished with MRSA and c-diff. Went from a fairly active and independent person to a shell in a matter of days!
