It's all scaremongering which a certain element of society will ignore,. They see that as a win

ISaySteadyOn · 15/12/2020 13:44

Sometimes I wonder if they are trying to push the public as far as possible so they can back down? Cancelling Christmas will definitely cause Cromwellian comparison.

So we need a Charles I I (preferably one who also resembles Mat Baynton Wink) to get us out of this.

AcornAutumn · 15/12/2020 13:54

Jourdain I don’t want to be nanny state but do be careful

When I first ventured out post pneumonia, just a potter round the block was exhausting!

SirSamuelVimes · 15/12/2020 13:59

Fucking Starmer is at it now too.

My borough has been in the news as Gavin Williamson has ordered schools to be reopened. So yesterday was an incredibly stressful day for Greenwich teachers, staff, students and parents alike for nothing. 2 of my 3 children are refusing to go back to school tomorrow (hopefully I can talk them into it, they are 5 and 11 and I know I am the parent but they have been distressed by all of the changes) and school has said - because I checked - if I can't get them to go it will be classed as an unauthorised absence. Clearly stability isn't important for our children!

DominaShantotto · 15/12/2020 14:08

@TrustTheGeneGenie

Just watching the news. They're going to cancel Christmas aren't they.
This is what it feels to me like they're sowing the seeds to do. I've been in perma panic attack mode all day.

There’s so much awful, pointless bureaucracy around schools.

I think there will definitely be a change of guidance. Hoping it might just be down to two households mixing as that wouldn't change our plans (and I'm afraid I'm mainly too chicken to do a lot of flouting!).

LivinLaVidaLoki · 15/12/2020 14:15

Sorry been awol for a bit, just catching up. @Jourdain11 I'm glad you're out of hospital and feeling better.

I just saw on the news that Christmas rules are under review.

What a bunch of utter cunts.

I suspect if they do change them it will be a reduction in the amount of house holds you can visit as opposed to a blanket ban. As I'm sure they will want to see their family and won't want to be outed by the press as covid rule breakers (as no doubt they'll probably be watched like hawks over Christmas).

But also, who is going to police it? Will they just be relying on the public to grass each other up again. I mean, who would do that on christmas day? ((Pops over to the corona zone....ahhh that's who)).

Also, they've put in measures allowing students to travel home safely, schools are being given the option to finish early so teachers can safely see their families, what's the fucking point if you're going to cancel it?

I'm hoping the same. I'd flout but I know my mum.and dad won't.

Though just seen this hilarious quote...

"Some people will have to be taken on a personal tour on a Covid ward before anything sinks in"

I always used to pride myself on having witty or smart comebacks, but now, all I can think is "oh fuck off"

LivinLaVidaLoki · 15/12/2020 14:28

Though you reckon I'd get banned for
"Tour a covid ward? How? If they offered a tour they'd be an indoor attraction....then they'd have to close. How would that benefit anyone?"

You could remind them that some people are working on covid wards and are still anti lockdown, especially given their medical knowledge.

Have the people suggesting this actually been on a Covid ward themselves? I feel like I have a reasonable idea of what it might be like having seen pictures but I don't feel like it would be as dramatic as they seem to hope think
rosettesforjill · 15/12/2020 15:17

I mean - I'm sure it's sad, and I'm not denying there would be seriously ill or dying people there, but would it really change people's attitudes that much?

Iheartmysmart · 15/12/2020 15:51

I wonder if the ones who are saying -

"Some people will have to be taken on a personal tour on a Covid ward before anything sinks in"

have thought about visiting an oncology ward where people may be dying because Covid stopped their treatment or diagnosis until it was too late!

flower11 · 15/12/2020 16:02

I was just about to say the same thing. What about a dementia ward where people are alone and confused not able to see loved ones.
Or a labour ward where women are going through miscarriages and emergency c sections alone because of draconian rules that should not be allowed.
Covid is not the only thing causing suffering. I can't get over how narrow minded people are and blind to all other suffering.

countrygirl99 · 15/12/2020 16:30

Back when I was a student I had a hospital cleaning job one summer. I was on a geriatric ward and it was one for peop,e who would never leave hospital and had very high nursing care needs. Most of the patients were completely unresponsive due to stroke or degenerative conditions, who knows what awareness, fears or pain they had. The others were extremely confused and frightened. I remember one spent her days absolutely terrified that she couldn't get to an air raid shelter if the Germans bombed the hospital - it was 1978. I'd like to take people who think Covid is the worst death on a tour of that ward.

@justasking111 that’s a great article!

Sometimes I do wish I was one of the masked zombies

wanderings · 15/12/2020 17:24

Also, going on a tour of a Covid ward was most likely the reason our glorious leader caught Covid himself.

I've been scrolling through the comments for about 20 mins and have yet to find a negative one other than someone suggesting we ought to be like Australia.

I've just realised that it wasn't from a mainstream paper so unlikely to be much disagreeing with the article. Blush. Still some very good points in it.
