Ok, so it's not quite a badly written shopping list but close. So retro! I found it in a book I bought from Amazon.

Interestingly, the date is the day I started my periods!

What were you up to in 1996? What is Mexicorn?

By Christ you knew you’d had beanfeast the next day

So did all your neighbours !

I was 4 and that receipt was dated 5 days after my brother's 2nd birthday. No idea what we were doing 😂

I was a student then. I can't believe how expensive food is now.

1996...I was in a horrible relationship. Was my last year of not being a parent. Was the last year of having a mum. Went to France for the first and (as yet) last time.

Gosh who remember the date they started their periods????
Not the date but roughly when it was, I had to try and buy sanitary protection in a Japanese supermarket Hmm
Megan2018 · 06/12/2020 19:06

@MollyMinniesMum I can’t remember the day but I know it was November 1990 as we were in Florida for thanksgiving and my mum’s birthday so somewhere between 19 and 30 Nov.
It was mega awkward happening on holiday sharing a bedroom with my family.

3kidsandafewcats · 06/12/2020 19:10

My first child was born in 1996.

Well like I and at least one other person said, it was on a relative's birthday. So that's why.

Linda McCartney sausage rolls 99p! Wowzer, they're about £2.50 now 🤦‍♀️

Was 10.5; just starting Year 6. Did not have a very good teacher that year.

bugaboo218 · 06/12/2020 20:17

I was 20, working and still living at home and thought it was totally unfair that mum used to charge me £100 @ month rent!

Mostly was living it up and buying clothes, make up and music with my wages.

This was just before I met my now DH.

My MIL bought us seeded grapes recently, I was like what is this? The 80's? Now I'm minis, it was 1996

Food won’t be cheaper after a no-deal Brexit. Or, even, Brexit.

October 1996 I'd just started at uni. I'd never shopped for my own food before and as my DM had always shopped at Sainsbury's and there wasn't a Sainsbury's near where I lived I didn't know where to go! There was a food shop on the nearby high street so I went there - turns out it was a very high end grocer's (a bit like a mini Waitrose or M&S Food Hall crossed with Fortnum & Mason, owned by a local wealthy family). My landlady saw that I'd been there and said something along the lines of 'students these days don't know they're born'... I then discovered the way to Sainsbury's on the bus and couldn't believe the difference in prices!

I turned veggie in the mid 90s and had beanfeast at least once a week. Wonder if it’s still around?

ssd · 07/12/2020 10:01

I was just married a few weeks then @KindergartenKop

I remember mexicorn! 1996 was a great year for me. I'd not long moved to a different town by the sea, to move in with my bf (now husband of 20 years!) and I had a job I loved working in a luggage shop, and I also managed the shop's concession within a nearby department store. We were young, no kids, plenty of spending money. It was my 21st and we celebrated by having dinner at a restaurant where you BBQ your own food on a little grill on the table. We burned everything but I didn't care cos I was on the cocktails...happy days!
