Welcome to those joining me in T4, it’s not that bad really. It’s been so soggy all day today. I don’t think my feet have been dry all day.

Nydj · 23/12/2020 18:13

@SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat, I’m so sorry that your son is not getting the support he needs. It is getting harder and harder to get help for children with additional needs and it’s so short sighted as, with the necessary support, the children are much more likely to reach their potential and rely less on the state for assistance in adulthood. A sisterly hug to you as you keep on fighting for him xx

Spudlet · 23/12/2020 18:30

Oh @Holothane, I hope it’s just a blip 🤞

I did get out, just did a couple of miles and it was more of a slither than a run... I was fine until I got to a bit where I needed to stop, at which point my feet took on a bit of a life of their own and I ended up skating Grin Didn’t stack it though, although it was a close run thing a couple of times!

DH has finished work for Christmas now and so far is still symptom-free. Two days of self-isolation left and then we’re good to go again. DS is really tired and tearful at the moment though, bless him. I think it’s all caught up with him a bit.

Spudlet · 23/12/2020 18:32

@SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat I’m so sorry you’re having a crappy time of it with getting support for your DS. Solidarity hug from a fellow ASD mum.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 23/12/2020 18:32

@SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat
All the best for you battle with the system.
DS will (hopefully?) finish school with Abitur next year - but in order to get into a dual sysytem qualification, I need to get him special help and I have as yet no idea how.

Champagneforeveryone · 23/12/2020 18:48

missconduct he's not a bad cook but has never actually cooked a roast before. I've always championed a positive attitude and embracing a challenge, so I guess this will be my reward Grin

We've had a chat and he's asked that I oversee things but that he's left to actually do it himself. We'll spend tomorrow prepping all the bits which means the actual work on the day will be minimal. This is normally a family affair so does not count in terms of "doing it" for him. In any case there's enough alcohol food in the house that we can get through any catastrophe!

Last night shift later tonight. We have a buffet which I'm trying to be enthusiastic about, but I'm always a bit wary of other peoples buffets. I normally rely on alcohol to kill any lingering germs, but that's somewhat frowned on at work Wink

MissConductUS · 23/12/2020 18:59

The Dcats are helping with/supervising DH's present wrapping duties. The large present on the table is a computer monitor for DS.

Champagneforeveryone my DS started learning to cook at the same age and now he and DH do all of the cooking. I'm sure it will be fine.

I don't really care for buffets either, but alcohol and I parted ways many years ago, so I just avoid them when possible.

I did a patch teat for hair dye on my inner elbow this morning. Hoping to do my hair tomorrow evening. It wont be quite 48 hours, but hopefully 36 hours should be enough.

Got an unexpected visit from a previous owner of our house. Not the previous owner, but the one before that. So at least 5 years ago. Someone had sent him a packet of biscuits for Christmas, not realising he had moved so he came round to see if we had them. We had kept them for about a week and then found a letter box big enough and written 'unknown, return to sender' on the front. We get a Christmas card for them every year but there's no address so we can't return that. We had a bit of a chat anyway, which was nice.

Taswama · 23/12/2020 20:28

Patch test not teat!

EggNogPegg · 23/12/2020 20:33

@Champagneforeveryone, that would have been such a small world. I know that he has two children who are 2 and 3 though, so definitely not your DH.

He eventually left after 10 hours at 1830 after needing to order a second new boiler as the first one was faulty (DH walked in on him getting ragey and banging it so suspects he broke it) and his boss came over to help. We STILL have a leak as there was an issue with the condensation pipe. But it's not the pouring leak we had before, this apparently will be a gentle drip only when the hot water is running. I'm about to have a shower so will test this theory. Apparently a man named Tom will be coming round to sort that tomorrow morning.

New Boiler 2.0 was on its way to us as the DC and I left soft play. So we went on a very long scenic drive to collect a Stuva toy box that I'd found on Marketplace. We listened to Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix the whole time and the DC didn't utter a peep about being in the car for two hours after soft play. They were captivated.

@SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat, I'm so sorry to hear of your troubles. I work as a 1:1 TA for a child who is going through the process at the moment, and I used to work in a specialist ASD school, and I've seen so many parents frustrated by the system.

T4 is creeping my way. One of the new counties announced borders mine. I predict it happening on New Year's Day. Will the schools close in T4 areas?

Holothane · 23/12/2020 22:18

Giant hot chocolate with marshmallows will get more of them tomorrow for another one, belly much better now.

Therainisback · 23/12/2020 22:19

My "To Do" list was thwarted by last minute childminding, so I have a lot to tomorrow.
If I so much as look at my Christmas tree it drops several hundred needles ( despite being well watered)
Just reminded DH that our brown bin (recycling) will be emptied very early tomorrow morning. Cue much muttering and huffing. He doesn't do many chores so I have no sympathy ( even though it's pissing it down)

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 23/12/2020 22:25

I will go out at 8 tomorrow to get some last minute things (food related), then DD and I will decorate the tree.
I played mixed Kniffel (Yahtzee) with DD who has severe dyscalculia - we had a lot of fun.

TenCornMaidens · 23/12/2020 22:48

Made a pavlova base ready for Christmas Day. Also laid the table as we are out all day tomorrow and will be tired when we get back. It looks AMAZING. Wrapped loads of presents. And had a good chat with a friend.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 23/12/2020 22:56

This is exciting for me but not for anyone else, so I tell you:
My home town's football club (regional leaguers) have reached the final 16 of the DFB cup.

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 23/12/2020 23:50

Thanks everyone for the kind message re DS.

I had a lovely Christmas e-mail from my German friend who I've known since university with pictures of his children. Just had sauages and mash with gravy and brocolli and DH got a new polar bear cake - that solves everything providing you avoid scales.

I'm expecting schools to be closed for some time though hope I'm wrong, at the moment is just one week off. I told DS we were going to Tier 4 from Tier 2 and he said oh that's fine I don't go out anyway and its only nail bars that are closed now and I don't use those. It is true atm all we use is click and collect, supermarket and house move / work on house and only click and collect is restricted of those.

Just wondering what news is on the way tomorrow - will it be no turkey, no veg or the cat hits the jackpot with a 10kg turkey when we ordered a 3kg one.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/12/2020 06:58

Frohe Weihnachten!!!Smile
The days are already getting longer.

Spudlet · 24/12/2020 07:53

We have woken up to floods - not us as luckily we live up the hill, but people have been flooded out in the village itself, which is in a dip. Going to head down with a flask of tea in a bit to see if anyone needs a hot drink. I have to go and do a last minute shop soon, so hope I can get through - the village is impassable, not sure how bad it will be in the other direction. And still it’s raining... Sad

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/12/2020 08:24

@spudlt
I am sorry to hear this.
Is this flodding natural or the result of us humans interfering with the natural flow of rivers?
The 'straightening of the Rhine' caused flodding problems down the river (still does).

Champagneforeveryone · 24/12/2020 08:36

Oh no spudlet what awful timing Sad

We're on flood alert but at the moment only for groundwater. It keeps DH amused for hours, staring anxiously into the river.

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 24/12/2020 08:37

Frohe Weihnachten Prok I have a feeling 24th is much more important in Germany than here - have you got plans for today?

Spudlet So sorry to hear about the floods, hope everyone is OK there.

We've got 4 click and collects today including Christmas food - I've not been told its cancelled / changed yet so hopefully OK. DD said she's going with him so she can add in industrial quantities of vegan food, she'll probably double the food costs.

Taikoo · 24/12/2020 08:47

About to have prosecco.
Then will think about packing for the rail journey 1000km south to warmer climes, departing Saturday.

HelenaJustina · 24/12/2020 08:49

Two out of three roads out of the village are impassable due to flooding. The third heads uphill so it’s the constantly reliable escape route! Luckily most of the village itself is higher than the surrounding river so properties don’t get damaged.

EggNogPegg · 24/12/2020 09:02

Frohe Weihnachten Prok What are your plas for today?

I don't know if interfering with rivers is cause for flooding. I always thought that we built around rivers rather than trying to straighten them. I suspect that the areas that flood when we have unusually heavy rain have always done so, it's just that we have chosen to build in those areas.

@Spudlet, sorry to hear about in your village. I hope that everyone is okay.

@SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat, good luck with your turkey order. DH went to Sainsbury's the other day and bought this 1kg turkey joint (it's just him and the two DC eating it). He's still not over it costing him £17. I can't believe he bought it in the first place.

The two 750g turkey thigh joints that went into my frankenroast were £3.50 each, so
