Happy Christmas day to those who celebrate
and a good time to those who don't. Star Wine Brew

MissConductUS · 25/12/2020 10:20

Happy Christmas to all! Xmas Grin

Silkie, good job getting your DS's support services back in place. It sounds like a typical bureaucratic mix-up.

@Nomnomarrgh, welcome, and thanks for sharing your puzzling yet calming news, and thanks for delurking!

@EggNogPegg - You are among friends here!

I'm up at the crack of dawn as usual but it's 70 mph winds and torrential rains out so I'm going to skip my run for the first time in ages. The town sent out a text at 0400 saying that there are trees down and to stay off the roads. Luckily we've kept power and internet service. Since I'm up so early I'll make the holiday mashed potatoes for DH and have taken out the butter, cream cheese, and sour cream to come to room temperature.

The elves finished wrapping presents last night and we watched It's a Wonderful Life. Zoom church was lovely and I had to let lots of people in from the waiting room but didn't have to mute anyone.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day. Xmas Smile

My DH has finished his new project . A pizza oven / smoker ..he’s well chuffed . He ruined (cooked ) Christmas Eve dinner on it yesterday... fucking tastes and stinks of bonfire .. I’ve had a bath already and can still taste and smell the bonfire ... he wants to cook fucking Christmas dinner on the thing .. I was literally chewing gratefully on the food last night making all the right noises and disposing of the smoke tasting food when he wasn’t looking ..to the dog I might add ...I don’t want bonfire tasting food today !!!.I’ve literally got to try and cook my part of Christmas dinner in my regular oven without him noticing ... how do I even do that ? .. .. honestly I’m not joking when I say it tastes of ashes , bonfire and smoke ... my daughter said last night ‘ are you ok mum ? ‘ my face gave it away I think

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 25/12/2020 10:38

I’m on the wine already just thinking about it..

Xenia · 25/12/2020 11:10

Sunshine here. Lunch just went on but one son cooking his nut roast. Potatoes and parsnips par boiled and now in the oven with the meat.

MissConductUS · 25/12/2020 11:53

Welcome, @HaveANiceFuckingDay, and thanks for sharing your smokey news. Can't you just tell him you don't care for it and will make something else for yourself?

The water is on and I'm peeling potatoes while listening to carols from King's College Cambridge.

Merry Christmas everyone Xmas Grin

Turkey is in the oven being followed by silkiecat who thought cooking was unnecessary and why couldn't she start on her lunch now. Only a 2.5kg one so will be ready in an hour and forty minutes.

DD didn't wake up until 30 mins ago, everyone has presents now.

I'm quite tempted to start on the pannacotta whilst we are waiting or maybe the prosecco but I'm normally dizzy after 1 glass so maybe not a great idea.

DS's support will just be some e-mail links and back on a waiting list so not great but better than where we were and impressed got a call on Xmas Eve. DS is just out with the silkies - sunny but cold here, around 2C but going to -1C tonight, near us they had a dusting of snow but nothing here. Just a few part flooded roads.

HelenaJustina · 25/12/2020 12:26

Children up at 6.30am this morning, which was fine as we had to be out of the door by 8.20am to get to Mass. I’m running 10 minutes behind with lunch already due to an impromptu outdoor Christmas drinks with our entire street! It’s freezing out there but beautifully sunny.

Champagneforeveryone · 25/12/2020 13:18

Merry Christmas all!
We've had a very chilled Christmas Day so far. Up at 8, breakfast, showers etc and out for carols on the village green at 11am.

Back to open presents, turkey in the oven (Operation Christmas Dinner phase 2) and now chilling. DDog1 was very excited with his new fluffy pheasant, bittersweet really as he loves the bustle and the wrapping paper, but I fear this may be his last Christmas Sad

DS now upstairs in a lull in Operation Christmas Dinner, doing something with something guitar related he asked for for Christmas. I bought DH a Where's Wally type book but with DDog2 hidden instead. He's almost entirely silent, apart from the occasional snort of frustration so the book has been worth its weight in gold Grin

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 25/12/2020 13:24

All had some pannacotta apart from vegan DD.

DH has insisted turkey is being cooked the French way with a very high temp for 30 mins then cooler and taking longer but still just over 2 hours. I asked DH is he'ld remembered to turn it down from the very high temp and he said no but don't worry there's only 30 minutes to go. I suggested he stop it early but then he said he thought I meant had I turned the turkey upside down and he hadn't done that but had turned temp down, phew. Potatoes and veg going on now.

forgetthehousework · 25/12/2020 13:57

Merry Christmas everyone, Merry Christmas xx

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/12/2020 15:05

@Nomnomarrgh
Have you found them? I usually find them under the finished parts.

I want to give away a ghastly 'lions in the savannah - so all beige' 1500 pieces puzzle, but in order to do so I have to count the pieces first. Which proves unnaturally difficult.

MissConductUS · 25/12/2020 16:30

Merry Christmas to you too @forgetthehousework Xmas Smile

The mashed potatoes are done, the chicken is in the oven and the presents have been opened. Everyone was very pleased with what they got. We're listening to carols from King's College Cambridge.

Everyone is relaxing until dinner, which should be in about two hours.

Happy Christmas all of you, chilled out day, loved my presents, especially my weighted blanket. It’s so comfortable.

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 25/12/2020 16:41

Smoke alarm went off when DH opened oven to put potatoes in to roast but it is a bit sensitive as we have a thatched cottage and all was well and we had a lovely Christmas dinner.

Had roast turkey, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, caluiflower cheese, brocolli, cranberry sauce, gravy, yorkshire puddings and carrots with a glass of prosecco and melt in middle triple chocolate puddings and / or panna cotta with raspberry and prosecco sauce to follow and now throughouly stuffed.

Most importantly the cat is stuffed full of turkey and very happy though the pigs in blankets being from Sainsburys rather than the butcher this year did not pass the cat approval test but she compensated with extra turkey. Hoping the cat doesn't explode on Christmas Day.

Hope everyone has a lovely rest of Christmas day and enjoy your Christmas meal MissC I thought you were having yours late before I remembered the time difference. That's what prosecco does to me. Xmas Grin

Champagneforeveryone · 25/12/2020 16:53

NEWS OFF THE PRESS!!

Operation Christmas Dinner was an amazing success. The carrots were almost raw, and he used shop bought Yorkshire puddings and gravy granules but as a first attempt I can't say I blame him!

DH and I are now left with the washing up Grin

Spudlet · 25/12/2020 17:07

Merry Christmas everyone! We are all quietly drifting into a food coma here, apart from DS who is full of beans. The chicken defrosted (after an intervention was staged) and dinner was pretty good if I do say so myself. DFiL was picked up safely as he didn’t feel up to the drive, and I made it through several flooded bits (and patted my car on the steering wheel and called her a good girl, once a rider always a rider Xmas Grin). Ddog has been for a walk, had a bit of Christmas dinner and been deservedly berated for knocking several things flying and trying to eat a paper hat. We are now blowing bubbles in front of the fire and waiting for the zoom calls onslaught to begin...! Merry Christmas everyone Xmas Smile

Only downside of doing the cooking is that I smell like a roast potato 🤨

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 25/12/2020 17:15

Dinner wasn’t cooked on the wood burner !! Hurrah
Forgot the pigs in blankets tho .. found them later on very well done in the oven
Turkey was shit .. reduced In Iceland in the summer , stupidly bought 2 of them . ..very crap and funny tasting .. gonna stick a bottle of curry sauce on the remainder of the first one tomorrow
Turkey curry !

soddingkitten · 25/12/2020 17:15

Frankenroast was a success, though next year I will make it with a boned turkey crown to get a full wraparound effect, as bits of stuffing tried to escape out of the sides. Sodding was happy with his minced pork ‘n’ peas homemade kitten dinner, with turkey garnish. He then immediately turned his attention to launching on to the table in a series of lightning raids and was banished. He has been sleeping it off in his hammock in DS’s room since.

We had a dry day here, an afternoon walk and a nice sunset, so I am happy.

Witchymoo · 25/12/2020 17:24

Just had a beautiful firework display from a neighbour.. bit random but it was beautiful nonetheless. I’m assuming a 🎂..or maybe celebrating Christmas and the birth of the baby Jesus shrugs

EggNogPegg · 25/12/2020 17:40

Merry Christmas you lovely lot.

DS1 woke at 2.15am for a wee, and spotted that his Stocking was full. So was then wide awke. He came belting into us and was suitably packed back off to bed. However he didn't go back to sleep and came into us every hour until I relented at 5.30. He then woke DS2 up. DH went back to bed at 6.30am once the gifts were opened, and when the DC asked to play their tablets at 7.30, I happily said yes and went back to bed for an hour too. Christmases from now on will feature the stockings living downstairs.

We had a lovely dinner. DH said the tukey was nice, but not £17 worth. My cranberry and nut roast was very nice. I got a yellow hat in my cracker but DS2 insisted that I swap it with his orange one.

There was a definite Harry Potter theme to gifts this year, with the interactive wands a surprising hit. They have spent most of the day shouting the Unforgivable Curses at each other.

HelenaJustina · 25/12/2020 17:57

@Spudlet my DC are told to ‘walk on’ almost daily...

Taswama · 25/12/2020 18:10

Merry Christmas everyone.
I ran out of time to dye my hair yesterday evening so did it this morning once presents had been opened. No-one has noticed yet.

We have just discovered an Amazon box addressed to DH which are presents from SIL for DS. He had plenty of presents and didn't notice he was missing some from his auntie. Can't decide whether to wrap them and 'discover' them under the tree tomorrow or just put them on the bookshelf with the 300 other new books received today.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/12/2020 19:40

I have just managed to catapult my tea cup (full) across the table. As we have the insert in the sweetened tea dripped through the slit onto the floor (wood).
I can calmy state that the area under the table is now clean.

MissConductUS · 25/12/2020 19:57

Welcome @Witchymoo and thanks for your sparkly news.

Dinner was fabulous. The chicken was moist and tender, the mashed was cheesy and savory and we had peas and brioche rolls from the nice bakery. The men did a fine job on the meal and DH did all of the clean up.

@EggNogPegg when they're teenagers you'll have to get them out of bed for presents. Xmas Smile

I'm going to have a bit of a rest until the zoom calls start at 5:00.
