I spent 5 minutes on the Royal Mail Click and Drop site earlier, buying first class postage for a card I need to send to my parents. After I'd paid my 76p and was printing the label out, DH walked into the room and I said that this was much easier than standing in the long PO queue to buy stamps. He then showed me a book of stamps he had in his wallet and said 'why didn't you just ask?'. Doh.
I also had to use my old laptop to do it as I have been unable to convince my new one and the printer to be friends yet.

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 15/12/2020 15:13

Chicken woodchip and perch delivery is due tomorrow and get an hour's timeslot tomorrow which is good.

DH had another nap and doesn't look all that well.

I just had two slices of cheesecake for lunch, not my most sensible lunch ever but nice. I had a scotch pancake with a cup of tea for breakfast.

DD just back from school, very rare she beats DS back. DS has to vote on a last day film - Chalet Girl, Murder Mystery, Captain America, Jurassic World, The Man from Uncle, Rogue one or Finding Dory and he needs a first and second choice. DD's class are watching Terminator after teacher vetoed their first choice as it was an 18, Die Hard.

I mailed my Christmas cards this morning. I walked them into the post office, and much to my surprise there was no line.

DH did go to the warehouse club last night and secured an 8 pound roasting chicken (no antibiotics, all veg diet, no chlorine rinse, etc.) and it's gone into the big freezer for the next nine days. He picked up a few other things while he was there. I think we'll have a Christmas dinner everyone can enjoy.

I spotted Dboycat lounging in his electrically heated cat bed this morning, so took a picture to spare. That's his friend Mr. Bear on the couch behind him.

It's actually starting to feel a bit like Christmas. The stockings are filling up and we have quite a few presents under the tree. I do love this time of the year normally. Here's to a little hope for the world.

"so took a picture to share.

Egg, 76p to mail a first class letter? That'a a lot, unless it's an oversized envelope. I sympathize with adding the printer. It's the one thing that regularly gives DH problems with our home network.

@MissConductUs, it's going up to 85p on the 1st of January!

We've been and done the fortnightly big shop, not too busy thank heavens, and I've been sewing this afternoon.

MissConductUS · 15/12/2020 16:22

It's 55 cents here, which is 41p. Our postal system is losing money and has for years, so the actual cost is higher,

We're getting 8-14 inches of snow tomorrow night into Thursday morning so it'll be a white Christmas here. Fortunately, we have the snowblower back from its annual tune-up and DS is home to help DH with it all. Two or three inches of snow is fine. A foot or more is excessive.

Have had a massively stressful day but then my husband finished work a bit early and made dinner. Now we are watching New Girl with the teens while eating said dinner. I will probably have a calming herbal tea in a minute.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 15/12/2020 19:19

I thought I'd be off work from the 18th onwards - but it doesn't look like it.
Just home and wishing for a nice cat bed to go to sleep in (preferably with cat).

Squirrel26 · 15/12/2020 19:24

I spoke to my parents at the weekend and they told me ALL ABOUT the forthcoming rise in stamp prices.

They'd probably fit right in on this thread, actually.

listsandbudgets · 15/12/2020 19:29

I finished work early today so tried to go to the local pop up market but I was an hour too early so I went to The Works and The Pound Shop and bought a few stocking fillers and then went to Sainsbury and got a joint of beef and 2 sides of salmon all off the reduced shelf. I also got some brie.

After that I got the bus home and was stuck in traffic for 25 minutes. The man in front of me wasn't wearing a mask and seemed to need a wash. I was glad to move seats as his smell got stuck in my mask.

Then I went home and had a cup of coffee, hung up the washing and changed DD's bed.

I thought about sweeping the kitchen floor. I didn't

Fluffycloudland77 · 15/12/2020 20:20

I rearranged my kitchen food cupboards. I haven’t told dh because it’s funnier this way.

TenCornMaidens · 15/12/2020 20:24

Just having a tiny weep at Arthur Christmas.

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 15/12/2020 20:29

Just watched a Californian Christmas on Netflix. Cute Dboycat MissC, also looks like another cat needing a pawrest for Christmas for that extra stretch.

I thought about cleaning and doing the accounts. DH is playing the piano.

About to have pork and apple sausages, leek and mashed potatoes for dinner.

DS chose his film with DD as his advisor. He chose 1. Captain America and 2. Murder Mystery and screamed No at Chalet Girl.

soddingkitten · 15/12/2020 20:33

One of my M&S parcels arrived today. I ordered 4 items in a single purchase but they seem to be arriving piecemeal. It’s lucky dip as they all have the same order reference. Today’s was a dress for me. 😀 I bought DH some new Chelsea boots for Christmas & they arrived yesterday, loose in the package with no box. 🤔

EggNogPegg · 15/12/2020 20:42

@SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat. I approve of your DS first film choice.

Which reminds me of a conversation DH and I had yesterday. He told me that I should have seen the plumber that came round. Apparently he was like Captain America with a wrench. I enquired as to when he might be coming back.

I started to sew on DS2s FIVE Beaver badges tonight. I got halfway through the first one when I spied my WonderWeb in my sewing box. They are now all webbed on (and looking much nearer than my sewing efforts would have allowed).

MissConductUS · 15/12/2020 20:43

Welcome @listsandbudgets and thanks for sharing your calming, mundane news. I love your handle, by the way. We have dollar stores in the US, several chains of them actually, but none I'm typically near.

@SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat Thanks, he is a handsome boy. He's very slender with a long body. He usually curls up in that bed but sometimes we do see an odd paw sticking out.

Tonight is grilled cheese sandwich night, with sourdough bread and sharp cheddar. I think there's some cranberry ginger ale in the fridge if DS hasn't swilled it all. We're living large in New York. Smile

Royal Mail has been fully privatised for a few years now. Prices just keep going up.

My beautiful 8 month old fosterling (who has a brain injury) tried to push to standing while we were doing physio today, he usually just crumples like a concertina when held upright but today there was power in those little legs! Those same little legs that turn the bathroom into an Amazon rain forest at bath times! He has many challenges ahead but he has a personality the size of a mountain so will go far.

Therainisback · 15/12/2020 21:05

Walked around town delivering Christmas cards after tea. Nearly 4 miles. That will have to substitute for a run. Already planning my New Year resolutions ( stop drinking, lose a stone and run 4 times a week) hmm.
In other news I made a pretty bullet point plan on the whiteboard at work - 5 working days until I finish for Christmas (& 10 days ' worth of work)

Lovely, lovely post. Thank you for sharing.
mathanxiety · 15/12/2020 21:50

I should have listened to NPR before I headed out to buy a Christmas tree.

The one I found is sitting in its stand while we wait for its branches to open up a bit before decorating it. I moved it into a corner after deciding it interfered too much with the positioning of my favourite armchair when it was in the sitting room window.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 15/12/2020 22:21

Yes - most places sold out of Christmas trees really early here too. DH went to three different places before he found one that actually had trees. It's very beautiful though. I haven't dared ask how much it cost.

Your post gives me hope @bloodywhitecat (and puts things into perspective) Thank you for sharing.

DP, DS and DD and I had a long walk this evening on a different route, DD slept for most of it.

Champagneforeveryone · 16/12/2020 00:54

There are some lovely updates on this thread since I was last here.

In optician news, it appears I made an error when ordering new lenses which is why my eyes were struggling Blush I won't bore you with all the details, but I feel the optician is at least partly to blame Grin

After another poster (I think it was spudlet) posted on an earlier thread, I had been toying with buying dog clippers. Poor DDog1 has dreadful fur in his old age, and after a small falling out with our old groomer now looks like a canine Worzel Gummige. In a fit of optimism I have ordered a pair of dog clippers which will be here on Thursday. I shall watch a YouTube video or two and then will doubtless be completely proficient Grin

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 16/12/2020 01:01

DS went to put the silkies to bed this afternoon just after it got dark but then he came in and said DH I can't see my silkies can you try and put them to bed. DH went out and found the two of them had taken themselves to bed and were snuggled together so he closed their coop for the night.
