So proud of the UK today

So, the UK is the first in the world to approve and roll out a Covid vaccination programme. (If another country had done this, say Germany, everyone would be going on about why can't we be as good as the Germans? Grin)

The UK had bought and tested a major amount of the right vaccine - it didn't get here by chance!

The UK Army (which really is world-class) is going to enable the largest vaccine programme ever.

It looks like a Brexit Deal is about to be struck.

And - next year, the UK will be banning the live export of animals. (We couldn't do that in the EU.)

Just feeling really good about the UK today Smile

It doesn't often happen, so I thought I would appreciate the moment Grin

@Biscusting

Just remember when you’re queuing up for your vaccine, that if the UK government had handled the crisis better, you wouldn’t be needing that vaccine at all.
Please explain why this is true.
Gilead · 03/12/2020 12:22

Gee whizz what an arse of a post. A German vaccine, manufactured in Belgium and we’re pulling out of a desperately needed EU

And yet here we are, with the vaccine. Rolling out the vaccine within days in fact.

It's not over until the fat lady sings... or gets a useful jab, anyway.

Let's see how things pan out WRT getting an effective jab to a lot of people in time to lift restrictions and limit the economic damage. The international League Table in those respects will look like... nobody knows. We're far from that point still.

TheSandman · 03/12/2020 13:07

I am neither pro-Tory or pro-brexit. But at the same time can't we just enjoy this as the achievement it is (even if its only for a little while before Hancock inexplicably fucks it up).

Hurrah! The British government pushed to the front of the queue. Sing Hosannah!

Sits back to watch Hancock hand the contract to stick little union flags on every vial to his neighbour's kids. "Here's a Pritt Stick and 50p - the other 27 million was spent on consultants."

Yes you can....

The UK Army (which really is world-class) is going to enable the largest vaccine programme ever

So why mention the British Army as being world class?

Is the US army world class, the French Army, New Zealand Army, Russian army?

What makes an army world class?

1stDecember · 03/12/2020 18:33

Because the British Army is world class. I didn't say it was the best Hmm

Still, I bet you read carefully through my posts to see if I had, in any way, said or hinted that the UK was "best" at something. And that's all you could come up with Grin

I'm very pleased about the news re the transport of live animals for slaughter. The first in Europe - something to be proud of.

What makes an army world class?

In the top 10, I would say. Which we are.

Yes, it's such an uncomplicatedly good thing! Was really pleased to see that we're pushing ahead with it.

Probably true but i do not see that applying an EU (emergency use) rule to a vaccine made, invented and funded outside of the UK something WE should be proud of.

The UK had bought and tested a major amount of the right vaccine - it didn't get here by chance!

Agree but we didn't test it, that was done by Phizer BioNtech

The UK Army (which really is world-class) is going to enable the largest vaccine programme ever

I believe the Army has said it has not the resources to help in a national effort.

And - next year, the UK will be banning the live export of animals. (We couldn't do that in the EU.)

We blocked reform on this whilst in the EU, we are currently proposing a consultation and the NFU oppose it!! also it affects just a few 1000 animals out of the millions slaughtered in some pretty shitty conditions in the UK, also does not address the animals transported over long distances in the UK (closure of local slaughterhouses, not enough vets!) the Eu ones have gone home.
But if it happens its

welcome

Do you really, honestly, believe this Brexit deal is good for the UK?

You can't possibly be 'proud' of the UK and agree with this deal.

What planet are you on?

AgeLikeWine · 03/12/2020 19:12

The ‘U.K. Army’ is most certainly nor ‘world class’. It was defeated by Iraqi insurgents in Basra and by the Taliban in Helmand. Deservedly so, in both cases.

It's ranked 8th in the world.

Nice attitude you have, though Hmm

I don't know where to go with this
viques · 03/12/2020 19:37

I’m really excited about the vaccine. I am particularly thrilled when I remember that many of the vials used for the vaccine were manufactured before the company licensed to do so had clearance that their manufacturing process was approved and safe, especially since the company is new to making sterile items and their CEO has only previously been involved in running a pub, not running a factory .

Its almost as if the Russian roulette of which vaccine you get offered wasn’t exciting enough unless you throw in the possibility of millions of unregulated and unapproved vials possibly not being up to standard into the mix.

But the CEO is a chum of Hancock so I’m sure everything will be hunky dory.
