So proud of the UK today

So, the UK is the first in the world to approve and roll out a Covid vaccination programme. (If another country had done this, say Germany, everyone would be going on about why can't we be as good as the Germans? Grin)

The UK had bought and tested a major amount of the right vaccine - it didn't get here by chance!

The UK Army (which really is world-class) is going to enable the largest vaccine programme ever.

It looks like a Brexit Deal is about to be struck.

And - next year, the UK will be banning the live export of animals. (We couldn't do that in the EU.)

Just feeling really good about the UK today Smile

It doesn't often happen, so I thought I would appreciate the moment Grin

Chutzpah, what a car crash of a word!

Mamanyt · 04/12/2020 23:43

@MsTSwift

Your post goes against everything English people stand for. We never praise the government nor are we ever pleased with ourselves and certainly not with our government. Are you sure you’re not American?
HEY! Only about 30% of us are total idiots! The rest are celebrating turning the country back over to the adults in January!
user1472151176 · 04/12/2020 23:46

Some people are only happy if they're moaning. I agree, it is good news. Boris is damned no matter what he does.

SOboredofcleaning · 04/12/2020 23:46

That you Carrie?

Schummakker · 04/12/2020 23:56

Please don’t confuse a person being a ‘misery guts’ and people speaking facts.

Vaccine is great news but the Tories have absolutely failed this country in many significant wars which cannot be ignored.

TheSunIsStillShining · 05/12/2020 00:01

And also a vaccine does not mean that we are anywhere near the outer edge of the woods. It's a nice tiny campfire at best.

I think it's scary how half the world seems to think that "yay, we're saved" and stops taking this seriously. The other half has not taken it seriously anyway.

In reality it'll be months before we see any other vaccine -unless we opt for sputnik of course- and until then numbers will spike unless we do damage control.

And the gov is doing damage, not control. See xmas period, etc.

Nonotmenotmeatall · 05/12/2020 00:33

Bit much white engerlish privilege there. Being proud of something you haven’t achieved at all and believe in fairly tales.

Nonotmenotmeatall · 05/12/2020 00:36

Oh and not to mention the open anti-semitismn of the Tories as of late. Yeah bet you’re proud of that too op! And the starving of poor children and benefits cut for disabled I could go on, bet you’re proud of that too.

tobee · 05/12/2020 00:38

@tobee

Well I hope my Dh will still be able to get his life saving medication after Dec 31. And everyone else who needs medication . I'm not very hopeful.

The vaccine approval will has been a useful diversion. Difficult to be confident the roll out will go smoothly after other Johnson over promising under delivering cock ups. And any successful deployment at expense of what?

It was me @lifestooshort123. So no, I'm not on the wrong thread. Cheers though!

Celestine70 · 05/12/2020 01:06

You are having a laugh or are very gullible.

Parmesanfrenzy · 05/12/2020 07:09

Apparently the vaccine would have been manufactured in the UK, but the lab had had to move to Belgium because of Brexit.

Parmesanfrenzy · 05/12/2020 07:10

Are you happy about the destruction of British farming too, OP?
"The future they are creating is a perfect storm of crappiness — massive tariffs imposed on what we sell to our main markets, a slashing of the support payment system that we were part of in the EU, a lot of deregulation, and a whole heap of new competitors through new “free trade” deals which will allow imports produced in ways that are illegal here."

ivykaty44 · 05/12/2020 07:14

To be fair majority farmers did want to leave EU and it was pretty clear then what would happen, same with car manufacting

Parmesanfrenzy · 05/12/2020 07:16

It may have been clear to you, but it apparently wasn't clear to farmers or to people working in car factories.

luckylavender · 05/12/2020 07:18

What a ridiculous jingoistic post. This sort of populism is why the U.K. is in this mess. The whole word needs to work together to defeat this virus,because unless it's controlled in every corner, it's not controlled at all.

wanderings · 05/12/2020 07:24

I'll be proud of the UK when the following happens:

  • Lockdowns and mandatory face nappies are consigned to the dustbin of history;
  • The government admits that they over-reacted by imposing the above;
  • The government admits that they LIED about so many things to justify imposing the above;
  • The government admits that they insulted the intelligence of the public with how their infantilising approach;
  • The government imposes appropriate legislation/procedures to make it nigh on impossible for a lockdown to happen ever again.

Then I'll be proud of the UK.

Funny how when someone uses the oh-so-witty ‘face nappies’, you can always pretty much predict the rest of their post without reading it.
user1471565182 · 05/12/2020 08:49

Well why else would they possibly claim credit for this vaccine unless they thought it was made here? they either think its british or are (as usual) talking out of their arses.

user1471565182 · 05/12/2020 08:54

Yep, farmers can suck it up after their years and years of campaigning against the EU. Same as the fishing industry. Im fed up of morons being catered to at the expense of everbody else.

winniestone37 · 05/12/2020 09:41

@Biscusting I’m afraid you’re wrong. Even if the government had handled things brilliantly we would still need a vaccine 🤦‍♀️

Callipygion · 05/12/2020 09:54

Should your user name be 1stApril not December? 😂😂

Morechocolateneeded · 05/12/2020 09:57

Do you really think that the collapse of the farming industry won't affect anyone in the population other than farmers? We are all fucked.

If the UK bans the movement of livestock across its international borders
farmers in Ireland whose fields cross the border
will have a few problems

but Brexiters do not give a shit about Ireland
