What shops do you miss that have closed down. Mine would have to be woolworths. I use to love going in there.

Woolworths was crap really, wasn’t it?

Proper local/corner shops that weren’t Spar or Mace etc.

IHaveBrilloHair · 02/12/2020 00:41

Definitely Woolies.

purpleme12 · 02/12/2020 00:44

@IHaveBrilloHair

Definitely Woolies.
yes proper newsagents that used to have shelves of good selection of chocolate and sweeties to choose from. Don't get that anymore.
purpleme12 · 02/12/2020 00:44

whoops i quoted the wrong post there actually!

Supposed to quote @HeddaGarbled post.

HeddaGarbled · 02/12/2020 00:52

Music shops where you could listen to a record in a booth before you bought it 😊

purpleme12 · 02/12/2020 00:53

I’m in my 20s so don’t really remember many of the stores listed here. I remember BHS closing as I used to work for TOPSHOP at the time, but I never visited anyway.

I want to say HMV even though they’re still open, as the shop has never been the same since? Same with House Of Fraser and the like. Hoping TOPSHOP pulls through.

docemmett · 02/12/2020 01:02

The Pier

shiningstar2 · 02/12/2020 01:02

East. Mostly operating as Franchises in Department Stores but there was also an East shop near me. The only operate online now and it's just not the same. I hate having to post items back when I don't want them, really need to be able to try on sizes in the shop.

jessstan1 · 02/12/2020 01:04

Cullens.

thebabessavedme · 02/12/2020 01:28

Timothy Whites, bought all my kitchenware in there in 1981, red washing up bowl, red draining rack, red bin, red tea pot, red toaster, red kettle, red tea, coffee and sugar canisters - bugger me that was an awesome kitchen, all honey pine with louve doors and red tea towels Grin

SamsMumsCateracts · 02/12/2020 01:35

Etam
Prezzies Plus (might have been a local thing)

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 02/12/2020 01:43

Spinks the bakers. I used to get slices of green marzipan covered Princessa cake . The seventies were great for lurid coloured food.

I miss Borders too. I remember how exciting it was to go for a book AND a frothy coffee at the same time.

And local teashops with ancient waitresses and endless cups of tea and currant buns.

Jeez i sound positively ancient at the ripe old age of 47 ( next week).

Pyewhacket · 02/12/2020 01:44

Etam’s are online , I get my bras from them.

Blimey I'd forgotten all about that!! When I was a teenager it had changed to headphones in the middle of the shop though.

For me it's BHS (their bras were perfect for me)

Poundpup · 02/12/2020 02:01

Principles - Fab for smart office wear and Mark One - The prelude to Primark. I couldn't get enough of their fluorescence strippy leggings as a teen.

giggly · 02/12/2020 02:07

Saxone

Willieowinsbury · 02/12/2020 02:49

The Sweater Shop, Tammy Girl though obviously I'm a bit old for it now 😂 and Internacionale!
