When does Christmas start and end in your house?

OP posts:

Start of December to twelfth night here too, though we put our tree up yesterday. It's the earliest we've ever done it, but waiting until next weekend wasn't as good an option for several reasons, so we just went with it.

As for actual shopping/prep/headspace it starts in my brain about September time!

MinnieMountain · 30/11/2020 13:04

We started on the lebkuchen and the mince pie testing last weekend.

Advent calendar tomorrow. Decorations and tree as soon as the plasterer has managed to do the chimney breast (grrr) but normally the second weekend of December.

Decorations down on 2nd January.

Honeyroar · 30/11/2020 13:16

Starts about the 7th Dec or so and finishes about the 3rd/4th Jan usually.

Having said that my house has had a few big decorations for outside being created in my kitchen for the past week - not even for us either! Part of the village advent calendar and café decorations.

BearSoFair · 30/11/2020 13:24

When decorations are up - 2 weekends before Christmas (so this year the 12th/13th) until the 2nd or 3rd of January when we take them down. Christmas songs and jumpers can go on from the first though!

yelyah22 · 30/11/2020 13:32

Advent calendars on 1st, of course. Tree not usually up before 7th Dec. Tree down before New Year because I'm sick of it by then and we usually make an afternoon of de-Christmasing and drinking leftover alcohol hahaha.

Theforest · 30/11/2020 13:49

Tree up about 2 weeks before. Down New Years Day.

Deelish75 · 30/11/2020 14:44

In a normal year I start thinking/organising Christmas from the end of Sept, finding out from family what everyone is doing.
Mid Oct the supermarkets and M&S “Food to order” usually goes live, so book slots for those. Also start booking children’s activities.
End Oct baking the Christmas cake.
Beg Nov start shopping and wrapping.
End Nov make pudding and mince pies.

Christmas properly starts at first weekend in Dec. We put the tree up and decorated, listen to Christmas music, DC do Christmas cards for school friends.
Everything down and cleaned NYD. (DD’s birthday a few days later and I want to focus on that).

DP and I are useless. We have been together 10 years and never had a tree, bought each other a Christmas present or had any decorations. We might watch Love Actually or something at some point in December but that's it. I love Christmas more for having time off work but as I have been at home since March this year it doesn't feel as novel.

papaelf · 30/11/2020 15:03

We have been sorting the decorations over the weekend and are ready to switch on tonight. I usually take them down on Hogmanay

Seafog · 30/11/2020 15:05

Dec 6th through to Jan 6th

Make up an advent calendar of cosy/fun/saucy Wink little things to do every day of Dec! Pieces of paper in a jar - you write up 12 things you want to do or want to have, and he does the other 12, then pick one out of the jar every day! Item one should be purchase a Christmas tree...🎄

I put this together last night with pot pourri, as a vehicle for our Christmas essential oil. Frankincense and myrrh.😊😊 later in the season I will add foliage to make more of a feature of it.
