@Sparklingbrook

We're not even half way through this race and it should have finished 20 minutes ago. Sad
I know, will record the rest of it as will be watching Chelsea play soon!
popshops · 29/11/2020 16:26

Watching Chelsea will be like watching paint dry 😂

snowstorm2012 · 29/11/2020 16:27

Lol! My son is a fan so I am by default, I don't mind though, hopefully they'll win 🤞🏼

PawsAndPhytoncides · 29/11/2020 16:28

They used Jules Bianchi's death to bring it in even though it would not have saved him

Why not? His car slid under the over hang at the back of the rescue vehicle - which was then at the same height as his head. Thus he got a blow straight to the front of his head. A halo would have protected him from that, surely?

How Romain G got out of a burning car - one he must have been in for 20-30 seconds in the middle of the flames, before getting out - is amazing to me. Just amazing. I love F1 but always fear seeing another death or life changing injury. Thank god that wasn't what happened today.

I wasn't following MotoGP then (had a bit of a motorsport gap in my twenties) so I can only imagine how horrific that was. I have vague memories of Senna though and the Bianchi footage was awful.

When you tot them all up like this it's a bit grim really.

lyralalala · 29/11/2020 16:28

I don't mean to derail or anything, but Bianci didn't die hitting concrete, he hit the tractor crane. He slid underneath the tractor crane.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. What I mean was that it was the stop-dead impact that killed Biachi. He didn't have head injuries or impact injuries, it was all internal brain injuries because of the sudden force of his car stopping.

Bianchi didn't have a blow to his head - he had no external head injury. It was internal force from suddenly stopping.

The halo wouldn't have saved him. It's not designed for that kind of crash.

Now Justin Wilson it would likely have saved, and possibly Dan Wheldon too, but not Bianchi.

We're cheapskates waiting for CH4, but I've been reading the news.

Astonishing, but glad to have seen an update.

lyralalala · 29/11/2020 16:34

@Frlrlrubert There were several errors on the day Simoncelli died. Horrific ones.

They showed him laid on track. The pit lane cameras zoomed in on his crying girlfriend and crying father several times. They also followed the Dorna delegate walking to tell Valentino Rossi (his close friend) and showed Rossi's reaction.

Then the ticker announcing it was put up on screen without giving the tv broadcasters a heads up so they started reading it as they do normally "Rider number X was taken to the medical centre.., etc etc" and then got to the bit saying that he'd died with no warning.

lyralalala · 29/11/2020 16:36

Bianchi didn't have a blow to his head

I'll clarify that - Bianch didn't have a major blow to the head that killed him. His helmet was virtually undamaged.

It was the force of suddenly stopping that killed him.

It was yes, traumatic acceleration/deceleration caused his injury.
@LimpidPools It was Austria where Hubert died and it freaked all the drivers right out.

Vettell just doesn’t like Kvyat but no I don’t think he was the cause either. He’s just been unlucky.
hubert died in spa

lyralalala · 29/11/2020 16:52

The Austria reference was about him and Le Clerc.

The delay in radio transmission made it sound like it was about Kvyat and Stroll, but it was Vettel having a whinge about his team-mate

Elderflower14 · 29/11/2020 16:56

If I was Mrs Grojean my husband wouldn't be racing again... I can only imagine how terrified she must have been!! 😔 😔

I think it was a bit stupid to say it given that Grosjean had had a bad crash.

That's exactly what I said, I hope his kids weren't watching but I'm guessing the older one may have been (7 I think). Just so relieved he's ok
lyralalala · 29/11/2020 17:02

It was.

It does show the almost weird way they can just put accidents like that behind them and get back into that race mode. I find that fascinating, and a bit weird as well.

popshops · 29/11/2020 17:05

Come on Perez, do it.

popshops · 29/11/2020 17:07

Safety car again Verstappen in first place would be great.

Sparklingbrook · 29/11/2020 17:07

Good grief, this race. Finishing with the safety car.

OP posts:
Frlrlrubert · 29/11/2020 17:09

Took him long enough to stop. I know their wing mirrors are useless but sure the pit wall could see that.

popshops · 29/11/2020 17:09

@Sparklingbrook

Oh no it was Perez.
Just after I hoped he'd get a podium then.

I wonder if it will finish behind the safety car. I really don't want Hamilton to win.
