@pussycatinboots

At least Stroll has clarified the plank of wood situation.
Yes, there is that.

Vettel saying maybe he should have crashed. Maybe it's a language issue but shit timing !

lyralalala · 29/11/2020 15:59

Vettel was bitching about Le Clerc rather than Kyvat and Stroll was he not?

He said they spent all morning saying give each other space - I think that was about the two Ferrari's getting close.

LadyCatStark · 29/11/2020 15:59

@ajandjjmum

Shocking - a miracle excape. A big ask for the other drivers to start the race again - I bet the average speed will be down significantly.
Nah it won’t, racers don’t think like that! You should see some of the things that happen in motorbike racing and they all just carry on as they were!

He’s a very lucky guy though!

PhilCornwall1 · 29/11/2020 15:59

He's more fluent in English than half the population of the UK, it's just he's a bit of a cock to be honest.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 29/11/2020 16:00

We thought we'd watched someone die live on tv.
To watch him climb out by himself and jump over the barrier was, I think, beyond everyone's expectations!

Just like half of the uk population then 🙄

God every time the commentators shout or two cars get near each other it's like my vagus nerve fires and I get a surge of adrenalin and my heart beats fast, it's ridiculous. Stupid pregnancy nerves.

Guess I won't be going into labour tonight or tomorrow now 😫

When they weren't showing the replays I did wonder, I felt sick. I remember watching at Imola in 1994.
lyralalala · 29/11/2020 16:03

When they weren't showing the replays I did wonder,

Thank fuck they've finally learned the lessons of not showing the replays until they understand what's going on with the driver.

LimpidPools · 29/11/2020 16:03
@LimpidPools It was Austria where Hubert died and it freaked all the drivers right out.

Vettell just doesn’t like Kvyat but no I don’t think he was the cause either. He’s just been unlucky.
Of course. It was just that the post came up at more or less exactly the same time as I was listening to Vettel say the same thing.

I think they have done that for a while now

Does anyone know who Haas would use to replace Romain next week? I'm presuming that's it for this season now.

lyralalala · 29/11/2020 16:08

@popshops I think they learned from the endless shots of Jules Bianchi's car being shown before they realised he was still inside it.

Delatraz or Fittipaldi are their reserve drivers.

That said, they may use it as a Ferrari test driver event.

And Racing Point called Hulkenberg despite having reserve drivers so I don't think anyone actually knows at this point.

Nannewnannew · 29/11/2020 16:13

@Sparklingbrook

I assume there will need to be a huge enquiry into everything. I don't think a car should do that, and the wheels shouldn't come off. They are on about the 'halo' but that seems to be burnt to a crisp.
The car was doing 140 mph! Not 40!
Frlrlrubert · 29/11/2020 16:15

Happens more in the MotoGP than F1 but the wait before they show the replay (cos they don't until they know the rider/driver is conscious) is always gut churning.

ohfourfoxache · 29/11/2020 16:16

Holy fuckballs, that’s made my blood run cold

He’s bloody lucky to get out of that at all, let alone with only a couple of minor scrapes

Sparklingbrook · 29/11/2020 16:16

I realise that. Confused

Yes, was shocking, just glad he's ok

PhilCornwall1 · 29/11/2020 16:19

I don't think a car should do that, and the wheels shouldn't come off.

The tethers can only be a certain strength. Any stronger and they would be too heavy.

The monocoque did the job though.

That is a hideous wait in MotoGP. But so much better than that awful, awful day where the camera shots showed Marco laid on the track not moving. That was horrific. I think they also learned lessons from the intrusiveness of the cameras in the garages after that accident as well, thankfully.
reservoircats · 29/11/2020 16:20

@lyralalala

He's a very, very lucky man today. If I was Mrs Grosjean I'd be pointing out to him that we were very financially comfortable after his racing career and my telly career and it was time to stay home with the kids after that.

I'm concerned that they've put a different style of fence up to replace the damaged one. The push to re-start takes over everything. Whilst is was horrific, the halo opened the fence like a tin opener and that will have helped dissipate the force. Hitting concrete, which is what is there now, would either have stopped him instantly (which is what killed Jules Bianchi) or spun him back out on track.

They also started cutting the fence before the Haas guys got there to take pics. To me that's just wrong. The investigation should be the priority over the re-start. The split of the car is massively dramatic (I assume the weight of the engine pulled it apart), but bits of it are meant to come apart in accidents as it helps reduce the force. The driver safety capsule is intact, which is how he's got out alive.

I was never a fan of the halo (They used Jules Bianchi's death to bring it in even though it would not have saved him), and I do think it will have hampered his escape from the fence/car combo today, but it's only thanks to that that he was alive to escape the fence so it's saved him today.

I don't mean to derail or anything, but Bianci didn't die hitting concrete, he hit the tractor crane. He slid underneath the tractor crane.
Sparklingbrook · 29/11/2020 16:21

We're not even half way through this race and it should have finished 20 minutes ago. Sad

Yes, I think they did. Not before time either.
