Has anyone seen this terrifying advert? It gives cult vibes. And the way the echo 'daisy' at the end gives me the creeps! Has anyone else seen it?

CastleOfDoom · 29/11/2020 09:34

@IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere

I thought it was just me who found it creepy. It reminds me of Picnic at Hanging Rock.
Yes!!!
questionn · 29/11/2020 09:35

I think the oldest model in it is 25.

They look like they've dropped a tab of acid.

DaisydaisyDAISYdaisy
Hate it

Is there a special agency that does perfume ads. Or do they let the YTS kids loose on them? They are all utterly bizarre.

the80sweregreat · 29/11/2020 09:38

I dislike it too but the worst bit is the way they say ' Marc Jacobs' voice over at the end! That is horrible.
It is open to a be a spoof ad ( although there arnt many comedy shows on tv that do spoofs anymore!)
However , as ds2 said you remember it and at least it's not as bad as some of the other perfume ads with even thinner women whafting about.

nitgel · 29/11/2020 09:39

I like it too

SusannaSpider · 29/11/2020 09:41

Picnic at Hanging Rock

Yes! I thought there was something familiar about it.

GreyishDays · 29/11/2020 09:41

I don’t get the creep vibe. Seems fine to me.

portocristo · 29/11/2020 09:42

I agree thought it was just me, mind you all perfume adverts are bonkers especially just before Christmas and they all have strange creepy accents 😂

emilyfrost · 29/11/2020 09:42

@bagelbaby

I thought it was just me who thought this. Creepy. They don't look happy or nourished
They look like normal, healthy young women. The obesity crisis in this country has hit such a height that we don’t recognise a healthy weight anymore.

Agree

emilybrontescorsett · 29/11/2020 09:47

I don't like how 20 odd year old women are acting like 6 year old children. I don't know any women who behave like this. There again I don't know any adults who behave like anyone does in any perfume/aftershave ad.

I also hate the Brut one. But is shit.

the80sweregreat · 29/11/2020 09:47

One of the worst perfume ads was
the one with Jennifer lawrence swimming around and the one where the woman had just shagged a sailor. (No idea which perfume they were)
They all tend to be odd.

yumscrumfatbum · 29/11/2020 09:48

I have an irrational hatred of people repeating words. My delightful offspring quickly latched onto this advert and realised it irritated the hell out of me. They ve spent the last few days coming up behind me whispering Daisy Daisy Daisy in creepy voices.

Giggorata · 29/11/2020 09:49

I'm trying to think of a perfume advert that isn't irritating or meh.
Perhaps that one where they play Casta Diva, because I like the music, but I couldn't tell you what brand it is.

As for this one, it was so far, so trite, until they started chanting “daisy, daisy” in those tuneless flat voices.

questionn · 29/11/2020 09:50

They look like normal, healthy young women.

I don't know where you live but I'm 5ft 9.5, most young girls aren't taller than me & the ones that are a variety of sizes as opposed to all having 24" waists. This was also true in the 90s when I used to model & get teased for being skinny.

No doubt we have an issue with obesity but to say that the height & weight of model is "normal" for young adults is stupid.

20shadesofgreen · 29/11/2020 09:52

I don’t find it creepy or uncomfortable but I do find it like something my 12 year old would produce targeting my 15 year old to buy. But maybe that is his demographic.

the80sweregreat · 29/11/2020 09:54

I tend to say ' Daisy Daisy' in a fake Irish accent! It was amusing the first time I did it ( only to me!)
The ad winds me up more than an ad should especially as you can mute them these days.

CheckMyLeftPhalange · 29/11/2020 09:54

I assumed it was a piss take of other try hard adverts and was completely satirical.

AfterSchoolWorry · 29/11/2020 09:55

Wow, Cheree by Suicide. That takes me back!

Diverseopinions · 29/11/2020 09:55

It seems ironic: smelling a flower under your nose is usually a cliche for being all sweetness and light and niceness.
Daisies don't have a smell.
To me, it looks like the smiles of the girls are slightly sarcastic. They certainly don't look engaged in the script of the piece - the story.

The music is 'bad-ass rock' sort of thing, and intentionally out of synch with the light ethereal quality of the visuals which would match a sort of ambient music with pure tones. So they are going for a sort of contrast, but don't want to use the stereotype of flowing muslin frocks and bovver boots - that contrast-theme is a bit of a staple of fashion at the moment, anyway.

It looks like they told the models to prance about looking free and ecstatic. The directors saw the result was crap, and the models hadn't bought into the concept, but they decided to run it anyway because they liked the hammy amateurish of the result because it didn't look like the girls were taking the pitch too seriously - and hey, that's what young people do isn't it - not take things too seriously?
The big bottle is a cliche, do perhaps they are trying to make cliche and bad acting so grating that it's cool?

the80sweregreat · 29/11/2020 09:55

It does have a happy vibe I suppose and is very short : only good things I can think. I shouldn't really think about it at all really
